The Sikh Temple of Bakersfield is one of several Gurdwaras serving the large Punjabi Sikh community in Kern County, California. The Sikh presence in the Central Valley dates back to the early 1900s, when approximately 6,800 Indians from Punjab province arrived in America between 1899 and 1914 to work in agriculture. Today, the temple serves the community with regular worship services, langar, and cultural programs.
