ਕਿਤੀ ਚਖਉ ਸਾਡੜੇ ਕਿਤੀ ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇਉ ॥

kitee chakhau saaddaRe kitee ves kareau ||

I have tasted many flavors, and worn many robes,

ਪਿਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਗਇਅਮੁ ਵਾਢੀ ਝੂਰੇਦੀ ਝੂਰੇਉ ॥੫॥

pir bin joban baadh giam vaaddee jhooredhee jhooreau ||5||

but without my Husband Lord, my youth is slipping away uselessly; I am separated from Him, and I cry out in pain. ||5||

ਸਚੇ ਸੰਦਾ ਸਦੜਾ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

sache sa(n)dhaa sadhaRaa suneeaai gur veechaar ||

I have heard the True Lord's message, contemplating the Guru.

ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਬੈਹਣਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੬॥

sache sachaa baihanaa nadharee nadhar piaar ||6||

True is the home of the True Lord; by His Gracious Grace, I love Him. ||6||

ਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਸਚ ਕਾ ਡੇਖੈ ਡੇਖਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

giaanee a(n)jan sach kaa ddekhai ddekhanahaar ||

The spiritual teacher applies the ointment of Truth to his eyes, and sees God, the Seer.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥੭॥

gurmukh boojhai jaaneeaai haumai garab nivaar ||7||

The Gurmukh comes to know and understand; ego and pride are subdued. ||7||

ਤਉ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਤਉ ਜੇਹੀਆ ਮੂ ਜੇਹੀਆ ਕਿਤੀਆਹ ॥

tau bhaavan tau jeheeaa moo jeheeaa kiteeaaeh ||

O Lord, You are pleased with those who are like Yourself; there are many more like me.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਤਿਨ ਸਚੈ ਰਤੜੀਆਹ ॥੮॥੧॥੯॥

naanak naahu na veechhuRai tin sachai rataReeaaeh ||8||1||9||

O Nanak, the Husband does not separate from those who are imbued with Truth. ||8||1||9||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

maaroo mahalaa pehilaa ||

Maaroo, First Mehla:

ਨਾ ਭੈਣਾ ਭਰਜਾਈਆ ਨਾ ਸੇ ਸਸੁੜੀਆਹ ॥

naa bhainaa bharajaieeaa naa se sasuReeaaeh ||

Neither the sisters, nor the sisters-in-law, nor the mothers-in-law, shall remain.

ਸਚਾ ਸਾਕੁ ਨ ਤੁਟਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਹੀਆਹ ॥੧॥

sachaa saak na tuTiee gur mele saheeaaeh ||1||

The true relationship with the Lord cannot be broken; it was established by the Lord, O sister soul-brides. ||1||

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥

balihaaree gur aapane sadh balihaarai jaau ||

I am a sacrifice to my Guru; I am forever a sacrifice to Him.

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਏਤਾ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਮੇਲਿਮੁ ਦਿਤਮੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

gur bin etaa bhav thakee gur pir melim dhitam milai ||1|| rahaau ||

Wandering so far without the Guru, I grew weary; now, the Guru has united me in Union with my Husband Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਫੁਫੀ ਨਾਨੀ ਮਾਸੀਆ ਦੇਰ ਜੇਠਾਨੜੀਆਹ ॥

fufee naanee maaseeaa dher jeThaanaReeaaeh ||

Aunts, uncles, grandparents and sisters-in-law

ਆਵਨਿ ਵੰਞਨਿ ਨਾ ਰਹਨਿ ਪੂਰ ਭਰੇ ਪਹੀਆਹ ॥੨॥

aavan va(n)n(j)n naa rahan poor bhare paheeaaeh ||2||

- they all come and go; they cannot remain. They are like boatloads of passengers embarking. ||2||

ਮਾਮੇ ਤੈ ਮਾਮਾਣੀਆ ਭਾਇਰ ਬਾਪ ਨ ਮਾਉ ॥

maame tai maamaaneeaa bhair baap na maau ||

Uncles, aunts, and cousins of all sorts, cannot remain.

ਸਾਥ ਲਡੇ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਠੀਆ ਭੀੜ ਘਣੀ ਦਰੀਆਉ ॥੩॥

saath ladde tin naaTheeaa bheeR ghanee dhareeaau ||3||

The caravans are full, and great crowds of them are loading up at the riverbank. ||3||

ਸਾਚਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਲੋ ਸਖੀ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਕੰਤੁ ॥

saachau ra(n)g ra(n)gaavalo sakhee hamaaro ka(n)t ||

O sister-friends, my Husband Lord is dyed in the color of Truth.

ਸਚਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਵੰਤੁ ॥੪॥

sach vichhoRaa naa theeaai so sahu ra(n)g rava(n)t ||4||

She who lovingly remembers her True Husband Lord is not separated from Him again. ||4||

ਸਭੇ ਰੁਤੀ ਚੰਗੀਆ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ॥

sabhe rutee cha(n)geeaa jit sache siau neh ||

All the seasons are good, in which the soul-bride falls in love with the True Lord.

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਕੰਤੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੁਤੀ ਨਿਸਿ ਡੇਹੁ ॥੫॥

saa dhan ka(n)t pachhaaniaa sukh sutee nis ddeh ||5||

That soul-bride, who knows her Husband Lord, sleeps in peace, night and day. ||5||

ਪਤਣਿ ਕੂਕੇ ਪਾਤਣੀ ਵੰਞਹੁ ਧ੍ਰੁਕਿ ਵਿਲਾੜਿ ॥

patan kooke paatanee va(n)n(j)h dhruk vilaaR ||

At the ferry, the ferryman announces, ""O travellers, hurry up and cross over.""

ਪਾਰਿ ਪਵੰਦੜੇ ਡਿਠੁ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੋਹਿਥਿ ਚਾੜਿ ॥੬॥

paar pava(n)dhaRe ddiTh mai satigur bohith chaaR ||6||

I have seen them crossing over there, on the boat of the True Guru. ||6||

ਹਿਕਨੀ ਲਦਿਆ ਹਿਕਿ ਲਦਿ ਗਏ ਹਿਕਿ ਭਾਰੇ ਭਰ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

hikanee ladhiaa hik ladh ge hik bhaare bhar naal ||

Some are getting on board, and some have already set out; some are weighed down with their loads.

ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਿਆ ਸੇ ਸਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੭॥

jinee sach vana(n)jiaa se sache prabh naal ||7||

Those who deal in Truth, remain with their True Lord God. ||7||

ਨਾ ਹਮ ਚੰਗੇ ਆਖੀਅਹ ਬੁਰਾ ਨ ਦਿਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

naa ham cha(n)ge aakhe'eeh buraa na dhisai koi ||

I am not called good, and I see none who are bad.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਸਚੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੮॥੨॥੧੦॥

naanak haumai maareeaai sache jehaRaa soi ||8||2||10||

O Nanak, one who conquers and subdues his ego, becomes just like the True Lord. ||8||2||10||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

maaroo mahalaa pehilaa ||

Maaroo, First Mehla:

ਨਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥

naa jaanaa moorakh hai koiee naa jaanaa siaanaa ||

I do not believe that anyone is foolish; I do not believe that anyone is clever.

ਸਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣਾ ॥੧॥

sadhaa saahib kai ra(n)ge raataa anadhin naam vakhaanaa ||1||

Imbued forever with the Love of my Lord and Master, I chant His Name, night and day. ||1||

ਬਾਬਾ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹਾ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥

baabaa moorakh haa naavai bal jaau ||

O Baba, I am so foolish, but I am a sacrifice to the Name.

ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਦਾਨਾ ਬੀਨਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਰਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

too karataa too dhaanaa beenaa terai naam taraau ||1|| rahaau ||

You are the Creator, You are wise and all-seeing. Through Your Name, we are carried across. ||1||Pause||

ਮੂਰਖੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਨਾਉ ॥

moorakh siaanaa ek hai ek jot dhui naau ||

The same person is foolish and wise; the same light within has two names.

ਮੂਰਖਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਮੰਨੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥

moorakhaa sir moorakh hai j ma(n)ne naahee naau ||2||

The most foolish of the foolish are those who do not believe in the Name. ||2||

ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਲੈ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

gur dhuaarai naau paieeaai bin satigur palai na pai ||

Through the Guru's Gate, the Gurdwara, the Name is obtained. Without the True Guru, it is not received.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਾ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥

satigur kai bhaanai man vasai taa ahinis rahai liv lai ||3||

Through the Pleasure of the True Guru's Will, the Name comes to dwell in the mind, and then, night and day, one remains lovingly absorbed in the Lord. ||3||

ਰਾਜੰ ਰੰਗੰ ਰੂਪੰ ਮਾਲੰ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਤੇ ਜੂਆਰੀ ॥

raaja(n) ra(n)ga(n) roopa(n) maala(n) joban te jooaaree ||

In power, pleasures, beauty, wealth and youth, one gambles his life away.

ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬਾਧੇ ਪਾਸੈ ਖੇਲਹਿ ਚਉਪੜਿ ਏਕਾ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੪॥

hukamee baadhe paasai kheleh chaupaR ekaa saaree ||4||

Bound by the Hukam of God's Command, the dice are thrown; he is just a piece in the game of chess. ||4||

ਜਗਿ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਨਾਉ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਹਿ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ॥

jag chatur siaanaa bharam bhulaanaa naau pa(n)ddit paReh gaavaaree ||

The world is clever and wise, but it is deluded by doubt, and forgets the Name; the Pandit, the religious scholar, studies the scriptures, but he is still a fool.

ਨਾਉ ਵਿਸਾਰਹਿ ਬੇਦੁ ਸਮਾਲਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਭੂਲੇ ਲੇਖਾਰੀ ॥੫॥

naau visaareh bedh samaaleh bikh bhoole lekhaaree ||5||

Forgetting the Name, he dwells upon the Vedas; he writes, but he is confused by his poisonous corruption. ||5||
