ਅਨਹਦੁ ਵਾਜੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਜੈ ॥
anahadh vaajai bhram bhau bhaajai ||
When the unstruck sound current resounds, doubt and fear run away.
ਸਗਲ ਬਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਛਾਜੈ ॥
sagal biaap rahiaa prabh chhaajai ||
God is all-pervading, giving shade to all.
ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
sabh teree too gurmukh jaataa dhar sohai gun gaidhaa ||10||
All belong to You; to the Gurmukhs, You are known. Singing Your Praises, they look beautiful in Your Court. ||10||
ਆਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
aadh nira(n)jan niramal soiee ||
He is the Primal Lord, immaculate and pure.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ॥
avar na jaanaa dhoojaa koiee ||
I know of no other at all.
ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
eka(n)kaar vasai man bhaavai haumai garab gavaidhaa ||11||
The One Universal Creator Lord dwells within, and is pleasing to the mind of those who banishe egotism and pride. ||11||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥
a(n)mrit peeaa satigur dheeaa ||
I drink in the Ambrosial Nectar, given by the True Guru.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਦੂਆ ਤੀਆ ॥
avar na jaanaa dhooaa teeaa ||
I do not know any other second or third.
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਸੁ ਅਪਰ ਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਪਰਖਿ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
eko eku su apar para(n)par parakh khajaanai paidhaa ||12||
He is the One, Unique, Infinite and Endless Lord; He evaluates all beings and places some in His treasury. ||12||
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ॥
giaan dhiaan sach gahir ga(n)bheeraa ||
Spiritual wisdom and meditation on the True Lord are deep and profound.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਚੀਰਾ ॥
koi na jaanai teraa cheeraa ||
No one knows Your expanse.
ਜੇਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਤੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
jetee hai tetee tudh jaachai karam milai so paidhaa ||13||
All that are, beg from You; You are attained only by Your Grace. ||13||
ਕਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੈ ॥
karam dharam sach haath tumaarai ||
You hold karma and Dharma in Your hands, O True Lord.
ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰੈ ॥
veparavaeh akhuT bha(n)ddaarai ||
O Independent Lord, Your treasures are inexhaustible.
ਤੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
too dhiaal kirapaal sadhaa prabh aape mel milaidhaa ||14||
You are forever kind and compassionate, God. You unite in Your Union. ||14||
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ॥
aape dhekh dhikhaavai aape ||
You Yourself see, and cause Yourself to be seen.
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥
aape thaap uthaape aape ||
You Yourself establish, and You Yourself disestablish.
ਆਪੇ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
aape joR vichhoRe karataa aape maar jeevaidhaa ||15||
The Creator Himself unites and separates; He Himself kills and rejuvenates. ||15||
ਜੇਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਤੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ॥
jetee hai tetee tudh a(n)dhar ||
As much as there is, is contained within You.
ਦੇਖਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਬਿਜ ਮੰਦਰਿ ॥
dhekheh aap bais bij ma(n)dhar ||
You gaze upon Your creation, sitting within Your royal palace.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੧੩॥
naanak saach kahai bena(n)tee har dharasan sukh paidhaa ||16||1||13||
Nanak offers this true prayer; gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, I have found peace. ||16||1||13||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
maaroo mahalaa pehilaa ||
Maaroo, First Mehla:
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਾ ॥
dharasan paavaa je tudh bhaavaa ||
If I am pleasing to You, Lord, then I obtain the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.
ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ॥
bhai bhagat saache gun gaavaa ||
In loving devotional worship, O True Lord, I sing Your Glorious Praises.
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਤੂ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
tudh bhaane too bhaaveh karate aape rasan rasaidhaa ||1||
By Your Will, O Creator Lord, You have become pleasing to me, and so sweet to my tongue. ||1||
ਸੋਹਨਿ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥
sohan bhagat prabhoo dharabaare ||
The devotees look beautiful in the Darbaar, the Court of God.
ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
mukat bhe har dhaas tumaare ||
Your slaves, Lord, are liberated.
ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
aap gavai terai ra(n)g raate anadhin naam dhiaaidhaa ||2||
Eradicating self-conceit, they are attuned to Your Love; night and day, they meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||
ਈਸਰੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
e'eesar brahamaa dhevee dhevaa ||
Shiva, Brahma, gods and goddesses,
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਤਪੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
ei(n)dhr tape mun teree sevaa ||
Indra, ascetics and silent sages serve You.
ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਨਵਾਸੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
jatee satee kete banavaasee a(n)t na koiee paidhaa ||3||
Celibates, givers of charity and the many forest-dwellers have not found the Lord's limits. ||3||
ਵਿਣੁ ਜਾਣਾਏ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
vin jaanaae koi na jaanai ||
No one knows You, unless You let them know You.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪਣ ਭਾਣੈ ॥
jo kichh kare su aapan bhaanai ||
Whatever is done, is by Your Will.
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਾਹ ਲਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
lakh chauraaseeh jeea upaae bhaanai saeh lavaidhaa ||4||
You created the 8.4 million species of beings; by Your Will, they draw their breath. ||4||
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
jo tis bhaavai so nihachau hovai ||
Whatever is pleasing to Your Will, undoubtedly comes to pass.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਏ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
manmukh aap ganaae rovai ||
The self-willed manmukh shows off, and comes to grief.
ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੁਲਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
naavahu bhulaa Thaur na paae aai jai dhukh paidhaa ||5||
Forgetting the Name, he finds no place of rest; coming and going in reincarnation, he suffers in pain. ||5||
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਾਇਆ ਊਜਲ ਹੰਸਾ ॥
niramal kaiaa uoojal ha(n)saa ||
Pure is the body, and immaculate is the swan-soul;
ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਅੰਸਾ ॥
tis vich naam nira(n)jan a(n)saa ||
within it is the immaculate essence of the Naam.
ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੀਵੈ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
sagale dhookh a(n)mrit kar peevai baahuR dhookh na paidhaa ||6||
Such a being drinks in all his pains like Ambrosial Nectar; he never suffers sorrow again. ||6||
ਬਹੁ ਸਾਦਹੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
bahu saadhahu dhookh paraapat hovai ||
For his excessive indulgences, he receives only pain;
ਭੋਗਹੁ ਰੋਗ ਸੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੋਵੈ ॥
bhogahu rog su a(n)t vigovai ||
from his enjoyments, he contracts diseases, and in the end, he wastes away.
ਹਰਖਹੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਕਬਹੂ ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਭਰਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
harakhahu sog na miTiee kabahoo vin bhaane bharamaidhaa ||7||
His pleasure can never erase his pain; without accepting the Lord's Will, he wanders lost and confused. ||7||
ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ਭਵੈ ਸਬਾਈ ॥
giaan vihoonee bhavai sabaiee ||
Without spiritual wisdom, they all just wander around.
ਸਾਚਾ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
saachaa rav rahiaa liv laiee ||
The True Lord is pervading and permeating everywhere, lovingly engaged.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
nirabhau sabadh guroo sach jaataa jotee jot milaidhaa ||8||
The Fearless Lord is known through the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru; one's light merges into the Light. ||8||
ਅਟਲੁ ਅਡੋਲੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
aTal addol atol muraare ||
He is the eternal, unchanging, immeasurable Lord.
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਢਾਹੇ ਫੇਰਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ॥
khin meh ddaahe fer usaare ||
In an instant, He destroys, ang then reconstructs.
ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਪਤੀਆਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
roop na rekhiaa mit nahee keemat sabadh bhedh pateeaaidhaa ||9||
He has no form or shape, no limit or value. Pierced by the Shabad, one is satisfied. ||9||
