ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur parasaadhee keemat paiee ||
By Guru's Grace, one comes to know the Lord's worth.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
manmukh bahut firai bilalaadhee dhoojai bhai khuaaiee he ||3||
The self-willed manmukh wanders everywhere, weeping and wailing; he is utterly ruined by the love of duality. ||3||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚੇ ਪਾਈ ॥
haumai maiaa viche paiee ||
Egotism was instilled into the illusion of Maya.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
manmukh bhoole pat gavaiee ||
The self-willed manmukh is deluded, and loses his honor.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਇ ਰਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
gurmukh hovai so nai raachai saachai rahiaa samaiee he ||4||
But one who becomes Gurmukh is absorbed in the Name; he remains immersed in the True Lord. ||4||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gur te giaan naam ratan paiaa ||
Spiritual wisdom is obtained from the Guru, along with the jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
manasaa maar man maeh samaiaa ||
Desires are subdued, and one remains immersed in the mind.
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
aape khel kare sabh karataa aape dhei bujhaiee he ||5||
The Creator Himself stages all His plays; He Himself bestows understanding. ||5||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
satigur seve aap gavaae ||
One who serves the True Guru eradicates self-conceit.
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
mil preetam sabadh sukh paae ||
Meeting with his Beloved, he finds peace through the Word of the Shabad.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਤੇ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
a(n)tar piaar bhagatee raataa sahaj mate ban aaiee he ||6||
Deep within his inner being, he is imbued with loving devotion; intuitively, he becomes one with the Lord. ||6||
ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
dhookh nivaaran gur te jaataa ||
The Destroyer of pain is known through the Guru.
ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
aap miliaa jagajeevan dhaataa ||
The Great Giver, the Life of the world, Himself has met me.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਭਉ ਭਰਮੁ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
jis no laae soiee boojhai bhau bharam sareerahu jaiee he ||7||
He alone understands, whom the Lord joins with Himself. Fear and doubt are taken away from his body. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ॥
aape gurmukh aape dhevai ||
He Himself is the Gurmukh, and He Himself bestows His blessings.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ॥
sachai sabadh satigur sevai ||
Through the True Word of the Shabad, serve the True Guru.
ਜਰਾ ਜਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
jaraa jam tis joh na saakai saache siau ban aaiee he ||8||
Old age and death cannot even touch one who is in harmony with the True Lord. ||8||
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
tirasanaa agan jalai sa(n)saaraa ||
The world is burning up in the fire of desire.
ਜਲਿ ਜਲਿ ਖਪੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
jal jal khapai bahut vikaaraa ||
It burns and burns, and is destroyed in all its corruption.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕਬਹੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
manmukh Thaur na paae kabahoo satigur boojh bujhaiee he ||9||
The self-willed manmukh finds no place of rest anywhere. The True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||9||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
satigur sevan se vaddabhaagee ||
Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate.
ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
saachai naam sadhaa liv laagee ||
They remain lovingly focused on the True Name forever.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
a(n)tar naam raviaa nihakeval tirasanaa sabadh bujhaiee he ||10||
The Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord, permeates the nucleus of their inner being; through the Shabad, their desires are quenched. ||10||
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
sachaa sabadh sachee hai baanee ||
True is the Word of the Shabad, and True is the Bani of His Word.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਛਾਣੀ ॥
gurmukh viralai kinai pachhaanee ||
How rare is that Gurmukh who realizes this.
ਸਚੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
sache sabadh rate bairaagee aavan jaan rahaiee he ||11||
Those who are imbued with the True Shabad are detached. Their comings and goings in reincarnation are ended. ||11||
ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੋ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
sabadh bujhai so mail chukaae ||
One who realizes the Shabad is cleansed of impurities.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
niramal naam vasai man aae ||
The Immaculate Naam abides within his mind.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
satigur apanaa sadh hee seveh haumai vichahu jaiee he ||12||
He serves his True Guru forever, and egotism is eradicated from within. ||12||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
gur te boojhai taa dhar soojhai ||
If one comes to understand, through the Guru, then he comes to know the Lord's Door.
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਲੂਝੈ ॥
naam vihoonaa kath kath loojhai ||
But without the Naam, one babbles and argues in vain.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ਗਵਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
satigur seve kee vaddiaaiee tirasanaa bhookh gavaiee he ||13||
The glory of serving the True Guru is that it eradicates hunger and thirst. ||13||
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
aape aap milai taa boojhai ||
When the Lord unites them with Himself, then they come to understand.
ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
giaan vihoonaa kichhoo na soojhai ||
Without spiritual wisdom, they understand nothing at all.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
gur kee dhaat sadhaa man a(n)tar baanee sabadh vajaiee he ||14||
One whose mind is filled with the Guru's gift forever - his inner being resounds with the Shabad, and the Word of the Guru's Bani. ||14||
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
jo dhur likhiaa su karam kamaiaa ||
He acts according to his pre-ordained destiny.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
koi na meTai dhur furamaiaa ||
No one can erase the Command of the Primal Lord.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਵਾਸਾ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
satasa(n)gat meh tin hee vaasaa jin kau dhur likh paiee he ||15||
They alone dwell in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, who have such pre-ordained destiny. ||15||
ਅਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
apanee nadhar kare so paae ||
He alone finds the Lord, unto whom He grants His Grace.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
sachai sabadh taaRee chit laae ||
He links his consciousness to the deep meditative state of the True Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਰਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥
naanak dhaas kahai bena(n)tee bheekhiaa naam dhar paiee he ||16||1||
Nanak, Your slave, offers this humble prayer; I stand at Your Door, begging for Your Name. ||16||1||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
maaroo mahalaa teejaa ||
Maaroo, Third Mehla:
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
eko ek varatai sabh soiee ||
The One and only Lord is pervading and permeating everywhere.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
gurmukh viralaa boojhai koiee ||
How rare is that person, who as Gurmukh, understands this.
ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
eko rav rahiaa sabh a(n)tar tis bin avar na koiee he ||1||
The One Lord is permeating and pervading, deep within the nucleus of all. Without Him, there is no other at all. ||1||
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
lakh chauraaseeh jeea upaae ||
He created the 8.4 millions species of beings.
