ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥

har cheteh tin balihaarai jaau ||

I am a sacrifice to those who remember the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਿਨ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥

gur kai sabadh tin mel milaau ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I unite in Union with the Lord.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਲਾਈ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥

tin kee dhoor laiee mukh masatak satasa(n)gat beh gun gaidhaa ||2||

I touch the dust of their feet to my face and forehead; sitting in the Society of the Saints, I sing His Glorious Praises. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵਾ ॥

har ke gun gaavaa je har prabh bhaavaa ||

I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, as I am pleasing to the Lord God.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ॥

a(n)tar har naam sabadh suhaavaa ||

With the Lord's Name deep within my inner being, I am adorned with the Word of the Shabad.

ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਡੀ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥

gurbaanee chahu ku(n)ddee suneeaai saachai naam samaidhaa ||3||

The Word of the Guru's Bani is heard throughout the four corners of the world; through it, we merge in the True Name. ||3||

ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਭਾਲੇ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ॥

so jan saachaa j a(n)tar bhaale || gur kai sabadh har nadhar nihaale ||

That humble being, who searches within himself, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, sees the Lord with his eyes.

ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥

giaan a(n)jan paae gur sabadhee nadharee nadhar milaidhaa ||4||

Through the Guru's Shabad, he applies the ointment of spiritual wisdom to his eyes; the Gracious Lord, in His Grace, unites him with Himself. ||4||

ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

vaddai bhaag ih sareer paiaa ||

By great good fortune, I obtained this body;

ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

maanas janam sabadh chit laiaa ||

in this human life, I have focused my consciousness on the Word of the Shabad.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਸਭੁ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥

bin sabadhai sabh a(n)dh a(n)dheraa gurmukh kiseh bujhaidhaa ||5||

Without the Shabad, everything is enveloped in utter darkness; only the Gurmukh understands. ||5||

ਇਕਿ ਕਿਤੁ ਆਏ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

eik kit aae janam gavaae ||

Some merely waste away their lives - why have they even come into the world?

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਲਾਗੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਏ ॥

manmukh laage dhoojai bhaae ||

The self-willed manmukhs are attached to the love of duality.

ਏਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਪਗਿ ਖਿਸਿਐ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥

eh velaa fir haath na aavai pag khisiaai pachhutaidhaa ||6||

This opportunity shall not into their hands again; their foot slips, and they come to regret and repent. ||6||

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥

gur kai sabadh pavitr sareeraa ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the body is sanctified.

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥

tis vich vasai sach gunee gaheeraa ||

The True Lord, the ocean of virtue, dwells within it.

ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥

sacho sach vekhai sabh thaiee sach sun ma(n)n vasaidhaa ||7||

One who sees the Truest of the True everywhere, hears the Truth, and enshrines it within his mind. ||7||

ਹਉਮੈ ਗਣਤ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥

haumai ganat gur sabadh nivaare ||

Egotism and mental calculations are relieved through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

har jeeau hiradhai rakhahu ur dhaare ||

Keep the Dear Lord close, and enshrine Him in your heart.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥

gur kai sabadh sadhaa saalaahe mil saache sukh paidhaa ||8||

One who praises the Lord forever, through the Guru's Shabad, meets with the True Lord, and finds peace. ||8||

ਸੋ ਚੇਤੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਚੇਤਾਏ ॥

so chete jis aap chetaae ||

He alone remembers the Lord, whom the Lord inspires to remember.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥

gur kai sabadh vasai man aae ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He comes to dwell in the mind.

ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥

aape vekhai aape boojhai aapai aap samaidhaa ||9||

He Himself sees, and He Himself understands; He merges all into Himself. ||9||

ਜਿਨਿ ਮਨ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਥੁ ਪਾਈ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

jin man vich vath paiee soiee jaanai ||

He alone knows, who has placed the object within his mind.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥

gur kai sabadhe aap pachhaanai ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he comes to understand himself.

ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥

aap pachhaanai soiee jan niramal baanee sabadh sunaidhaa ||10||

That humble being who understands himself is immaculate. He proclaims the Guru's Bani, and the Word of the Shabad. ||10||

ਏਹ ਕਾਇਆ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥

eh kaiaa pavit hai sareer ||

This body is sanctified and purified;

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਚੇਤੈ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥

gur sabadhee chetai gunee gaheer ||

through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it contemplates the Lord, the ocean of virtue.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥

anadhin gun gaavai ra(n)g raataa gun keh gunee samaidhaa ||11||

One who chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord night and day, and remains attuned to His Love, chants His Glorious Virtues, immersed in the Glorious Lord. ||11||

ਏਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਸਭ ਮੂਲੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

eh sareer sabh mool hai maiaa ||

This body is the source of all Maya;

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥

dhoojai bhai bharam bhulaiaa ||

in love with duality, it is deluded by doubt.

ਹਰਿ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥

har na chetai sadhaa dhukh paae bin har chete dhukh paidhaa ||12||

It does not remember the Lord, and suffers in eternal pain. Without remembering the Lord, it suffers in pain. ||12||

ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

j satigur seve so paravaan ||

One who serves the True Guru is approved and respected.

ਕਾਇਆ ਹੰਸੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਜਾਣੁ ॥

kaiaa ha(n)s niramal dhar sachai jaan ||

His body and soul-swan are immaculate and pure; in the Court of the Lord, he is known to be true.

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ਸੋਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥

har seve har ma(n)n vasaae sohai har gun gaidhaa ||13||

He serves the Lord, and enshrines the Lord in his mind; he is exalted, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||13||

ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

bin bhaagaa gur seviaa na jai ||

Without good destiny, no one can serve the True Guru.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥

manmukh bhoole mue bilalai ||

The self-willed manmukhs are deluded, and die weeping and wailing.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੇਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥

jin kau nadhar hovai gur keree har jeeau aap milaidhaa ||14||

Those who are blessed by the Guru's Glance of Grace - the Dear Lord unites them with Himself. ||14||

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਪਕੇ ਹਟਨਾਲੇ ॥

kaiaa koT pake haTanaale ||

In the body fortress, are the solidly-constructed markets.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲੇਵੈ ਵਸਤੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥

gurmukh levai vasat samaale ||

The Gurmukh purchases the object, and takes care of it.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਊਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥

har kaa naam dhiaai dhin raatee uootam padhavee paidhaa ||15||

Meditating on the Name of the Lord, day and night, he attains the sublime, exalted status. ||15||

ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥

aape sachaa hai sukhadhaataa ||

The True Lord Himself is the Giver of peace.

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥

poore gur kai sabadh pachhaataa ||

Through the Shabad of the Perfect Guru, He is realized.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੭॥੨੧॥

naanak naam salaahe saachaa poorai bhaag ko paidhaa ||16||7||21||

Nanak praises the Naam, the True Name of the Lord; through perfect destiny, He is found. ||16||7||21||
