ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੂਆ ॥

One who keeps the Naam in his heart becomes cool and calm.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮੂਆ ॥੨॥
naam binaa dhirag jeevan mooaa ||2||
Without the Naam, both life and death are cursed. ||2||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥
jis naam ridhai so jeevan mukataa ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is Jivan-mukta, liberated while yet alive.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥
jis naam ridhai tis sabh hee jugataa ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart knows all ways and means.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
jis naam ridhai tin nau nidh paiee ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart obtains the nine treasures.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
naam binaa bhram aavai jaiee ||3||
Without the Naam, the mortal wanders, coming and going in reincarnation. ||3||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥
jis naam ridhai so veparavaahaa ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is carefree and independent.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਲਾਹਾ ॥
jis naam ridhai tis sadh hee laahaa ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart always earns a profit.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਡ ਪਰਵਾਰਾ ॥
jis naam ridhai tis vadd paravaaraa ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart has a large family.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
naam binaa manmukh gaavaaraa ||4||
Without the Naam, the mortal is just an ignorant, self-willed manmukh. ||4||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਆਸਨੁ ॥
jis naam ridhai tis nihachal aasan ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart has a permanent position.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਖਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਨੁ ॥
jis naam ridhai tis takhat nivaasan ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is seated on the throne.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥
jis naam ridhai so saachaa saahu ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is the true king.
ਨਾਮਹੀਣ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥੫॥
naamaheen naahee pat vesaahu ||5||
Without the Naam, no one has any honor or respect. ||5||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
jis naam ridhai so sabh meh jaataa ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is famous everywhere.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
jis naam ridhai so purakh bidhaataa ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is the Embodiment of the Creator Lord.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ॥
jis naam ridhai so sabh te uoochaa ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is the highest of all.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਮੂਚਾ ॥੬॥
naam binaa bhram jonee moochaa ||6||
Without the Naam, the mortal wanders in reincarnation. ||6||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿ ਪਹਾਰਾ ॥
jis naam ridhai tis pragaT pahaaraa ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart sees the Lord manifested in His Creation.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
jis naam ridhai tis miTiaa a(n)dhaaraa ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart - his darkness is dispelled.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jis naam ridhai so purakh paravaan ||
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is approved and accepted.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੭॥
naam binaa fir aavan jaan ||7||
Without the Naam, the mortal continues coming and going in reincarnation. ||7||
ਤਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
tin naam paiaa jis bhio kirapaal ||
He alone receives the Naam, who is blessed by the Lord's Mercy.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਲਖੇ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ॥
saadhasa(n)gat meh lakhe guopaal ||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Lord of the World is understood.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
aavan jaan rahe sukh paiaa ||
Coming and going in reincarnation ends, and peace is found.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਤੈ ਤਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੪॥
kahu naanak tatai tat milaiaa ||8||1||4||
Says Nanak, my essence has merged in the Essence of the Lord. ||8||1||4||

He created millions of incarnations of Vishnu.
ਕੋਟਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਧ੍ਰਮਸਾਲ ॥
koT brahama(n)dd jaa ke dhramasaal ||
He created millions of universes as places to practice righteousness.
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਹੇਸ ਉਪਾਇ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
koT mahes upai samaae ||
He created and destroyed millions of Shivas.
ਕੋਟਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਜਗੁ ਸਾਜਣ ਲਾਏ ॥੧॥
koT brahame jag saajan laae ||1||
He employed millions of Brahmas to create the worlds. ||1||
ਐਸੋ ਧਣੀ ਗੁਵਿੰਦੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
aaiso dhanee guvi(n)dh hamaaraa ||
Such is my Lord and Master, the Lord of the Universe.
ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
baran na saakau gun bisathaaraa ||1|| rahaau ||
I cannot even describe His Many Virtues. ||1||Pause||
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸੇਵਕਾਇ ॥
koT maiaa jaa kai sevakai ||
Millions of Mayas are His maid-servants.
ਕੋਟਿ ਜੀਅ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸਿਹਜਾਇ ॥
koT jeea jaa kee sihajai ||
Millions of souls are His beds.
ਕੋਟਿ ਉਪਾਰਜਨਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਅੰਗਿ ॥
koT upaarajanaa terai a(n)g ||
Millions of universes are the limbs of His Being.
ਕੋਟਿ ਭਗਤ ਬਸਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ॥੨॥
koT bhagat basat har sa(n)g ||2||
Millions of devotees abide with the Lord. ||2||
ਕੋਟਿ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਕਰਤ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥
koT chhatrapat karat namasakaar ||
Millions of kings with their crowns and canopies bow before Him.
ਕੋਟਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਠਾਢੇ ਹੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥
koT i(n)dhr Thaadde hai dhuaar ||
Millions of Indras stand at His Door.
ਕੋਟਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
koT baiku(n)Th jaa kee dhirasaTee maeh ||
Millions of heavenly paradises are within the scope of His Vision.
ਕੋਟਿ ਨਾਮ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
koT naam jaa kee keemat naeh ||3||
Millions of His Names cannot even be appraised. ||3||
ਕੋਟਿ ਪੂਰੀਅਤ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਨਾਦ ॥
koT pooreeat hai jaa kai naadh ||
Millions of celestial sounds resound for Him.
ਕੋਟਿ ਅਖਾਰੇ ਚਲਿਤ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥
koT akhaare chalit bisamaadh ||
His Wondrous Plays are enacted on millions of stages.
ਕੋਟਿ ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿਵ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰ ॥
koT sakat siv aagiaakaar ||
Millions of Shaktis and Shivas are obedient to Him.
ਕੋਟਿ ਜੀਅ ਦੇਵੈ ਆਧਾਰ ॥੪॥
koT jeea dhevai aadhaar ||4||
He gives sustenance and support to millions of beings. ||4||
ਕੋਟਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਮਝਾਰ ॥
koT teerath jaa ke charan majhaar ||
In His Feet are millions of sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਕੋਟਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜਪਤ ਨਾਮ ਚਾਰ ॥
koT pavitr japat naam chaar ||
Millions chant His Sacred and Beautiful Name.
ਕੋਟਿ ਪੂਜਾਰੀ ਕਰਤੇ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
koT poojaaree karate poojaa ||
Millions of worshippers worship Him.
ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੫॥
koT bisathaaran avar na dhoojaa ||5||
Millions of expanses are His; there is no other at all. ||5||
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੰਸ ॥
koT mahimaa jaa kee niramal ha(n)s ||
Millions of swan-souls sing His Immaculate Praises.
ਕੋਟਿ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਕਰਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਸ ॥
koT usatat jaa kee karat brahama(n)s ||
Millions of Brahma's sons sing His Praises.
ਕੋਟਿ ਪਰਲਉ ਓਪਤਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
koT paralau opat nimakh maeh ||
He creates and destroys millions, in an instant.
ਕੋਟਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਗਣੇ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੬॥
koT gunaa tere gane na jaeh ||6||
Millions are Your Virtues, Lord - they cannot even be counted. ||6||
ਕੋਟਿ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਥਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
koT giaanee katheh giaan ||
Millions of spiritual teachers teach His spiritual wisdom.
ਕੋਟਿ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਧਰਤ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
koT dhiaanee dharat dhiaan ||
Millions of meditators focus on His meditation.
ਕੋਟਿ ਤਪੀਸਰ ਤਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਤੇ ॥
koT tapeesar tap hee karate ||
Millions of austere penitents practice austerities.
