ਤੂ ਵਡ ਦਾਤਾ ਤੂ ਵਡ ਦਾਨਾ ਅਉਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
too vadd dhaataa too vadd dhaanaa aaur nahee ko dhoojaa ||
You are the Great Giver; You are so very Wise. There is no other like You.
ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਪੂਜਾ ॥੩॥
too samarath suaamee meraa hau kiaa jaanaa teree poojaa ||3||
You are my All-powerful Lord and Master; I do not know how to worship You. ||3||
ਤੇਰਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੈ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
teraa mahal agochar mere piaare bikham teraa hai bhaanaa ||
Your Mansion is imperceptible, O my Beloved; it is so difficult to accept Your Will.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਢਹਿ ਪਇਆ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਣਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੨੦॥
kahu naanak ddeh piaa dhuaarai rakh levahu mugadh ajaanaa ||4||2||20||
Says Nanak, I have collapsed at Your Door, Lord. I am foolish and ignorant - please save me! ||4||2||20||

ਮੂਲੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਬਿਆਪੀ ਅਹੰ ਮਨੀ ॥੧॥
mool na boojhai aap na soojhai bharam biaapee aha(n) manee ||1||
The mortal does not know the Primal Lord God; he does not understand hmself. He is engrossed in doubt and egotism. ||1||
ਪਿਤਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਨੀ ॥
pitaa paarabraham prabh dhanee ||
My Father is the Supreme Lord God, my Master.
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਹੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
moh nisataarahu niragunee ||1|| rahaau ||
I am unworthy, but please save me anyway. ||1||Pause||
ਓਪਤਿ ਪਰਲਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਇਹ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੀ ॥੨॥
opat paralau prabh te hovai ieh beechaaree har janee ||2||
Creation and destruction come only from God; this is what the Lord's humble servants believe. ||2||
ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸੇ ਗਨੀ ॥੩॥
naam prabhoo ke jo ra(n)g raate kal meh sukhe'ee se ganee ||3||
Only those who are imbued with God's Name are judged to be peaceful in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||3||
ਅਵਰੁ ਉਪਾਉ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ॥੪॥੩॥੨੧॥
avar upaau na koiee soojhai naanak tareeaai gur bachanee ||4||3||21||
It is the Guru's Word that carries us across; Nanak cannot think of any other way. ||4||3||21||

ਸਾਧੋ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ॥
saadho ih tan mithiaa jaanau ||
O Holy Saints, know that this body is false.
ਯਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜੋ ਰਾਮੁ ਬਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਚੋ ਤਾਹਿ ਪਛਾਨੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
yaa bheetar jo raam basat hai saacho taeh pachhaano ||1|| rahaau ||
The Lord who dwells within it - recognize that He alone is real. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਕੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਹਾ ਐਡਾਨੋ ॥
eih jag hai sa(n)pat supane kee dhekh kahaa aaiddaano ||
The wealth of this world is only a dream; why are you so proud of it?
ਸੰਗਿ ਤਿਹਾਰੈ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਕਹਾ ਲਪਟਾਨੋ ॥੧॥
sa(n)g tihaarai kachhoo na chaalai taeh kahaa lapaTaano ||1||
None of it shall go along with you in the end; why do you cling to it? ||1||
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੋਊ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਉਰਿ ਆਨੋ ॥
ausatat ni(n)dhaa dhouoo parahar har keerat ur aano ||
Leave behind both praise and slander; enshrine the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises within your heart.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਮੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਭਗਵਾਨੋ ॥੨॥੧॥
jan naanak sabh hee mai pooran ek purakh bhagavaano ||2||1||
O servant Nanak, the One Primal Being, the Lord God, is totally permeating everywhere. ||2||1||

Basant, Ninth Mehla:
ਪਾਪੀ ਹੀਐ ਮੈ ਕਾਮੁ ਬਸਾਇ ॥
paapee heeaai mai kaam basai ||
The heart of the sinner is filled with unfulfilled sexual desire.
ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਯਾ ਤੇ ਗਹਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man cha(n)chal yaa te gahio na jai ||1|| rahaau ||
He cannot control his fickle mind. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਅਰੁ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ॥
jogee ja(n)gam ar sa(n)niaas ||
The Yogis, wandering ascetics and renunciates
ਸਭ ਹੀ ਪਰਿ ਡਾਰੀ ਇਹ ਫਾਸ ॥੧॥
sabh hee par ddaaree ieh faas ||1||
- this net is cast over them all. ||1||
ਜਿਹਿ ਜਿਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮੑਾਰਿ ॥
jeh jeh har ko naam sam(h)aar ||
Those who contemplate the Name of the Lord
ਤੇ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰ ਉਤਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
te bhav saagar utare paar ||2||
cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥
jan naanak har kee saranai ||
Servant Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord.
ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੩॥੨॥
dheejai naam rahai gun gai ||3||2||
Please bestow the blessing of Your Name, that he may continue to sing Your Glorious Praises. ||3||2||

ਮਾਈ ਮੈ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
maiee mai dhan paio har naam ||
O mother, I have gathered the wealth of the Lord's Name.
ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਧਾਵਨ ਤੇ ਛੂਟਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਬੈਠੋ ਬਿਸਰਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man mero dhaavan te chhooTio kar baiTho bisaraam ||1|| rahaau ||
My mind has stopped its wanderings, and now, it has come to rest. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਭਾਗੀ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
maiaa mamataa tan te bhaagee upajio niramal giaan ||
Attachment to Maya has run away from my body, and immaculate spiritual wisdom has welled up within me.
ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਏਹ ਪਰਸਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਗਹੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੧॥
lobh moh eh paras na saakai gahee bhagat bhagavaan ||1||
Greed and attachment cannot even touch me; I have grasped hold of devotional worship of the Lord. ||1||
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਸੰਸਾ ਚੂਕਾ ਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਬ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
janam janam kaa sa(n)saa chookaa ratan naam jab paiaa ||
The cynicism of countless lifetimes has been eradicated, since I obtained the jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਕਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਨਿਜ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
tirasanaa sakal binaasee man te nij sukh maeh samaiaa ||2||
My mind was rid of all its desires, and I was absorbed in the peace of my own inner being. ||2||
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਸੋ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
jaa kau hot dhiaal kirapaa nidh so gobi(n)dh gun gaavai ||
That person, unto whom the Merciful Lord shows compassion, sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀ ਸੰਪੈ ਕੋਊ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥੩॥
kahu naanak ieh bidh kee sa(n)pai kouoo gurmukh paavai ||3||3||
Says Nanak, this wealth is gathered only by the Gurmukh. ||3||3||

ਮਨ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

O my mind, how can you forget the Lord's Name?
ਤਨੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਜਮ ਸਿਉ ਪਰੈ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tan binasai jam siau parai kaam ||1|| rahaau ||
When the body perishes, you shall have to deal with the Messenger of Death. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਧੂਏ ਕਾ ਪਹਾਰ ॥
eih jag dhooe kaa pahaar ||
This world is just a hill of smoke.
