ਤੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਕਿਹ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
tai saachaa maaniaa keh bichaar ||1||
What makes you think that it is real? ||1||
ਧਨੁ ਦਾਰਾ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਗ੍ਰੇਹ ॥
dhan dhaaraa sa(n)pat greh ||
Wealth, spouse, property and household
ਕਛੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਸਮਝ ਲੇਹ ॥੨॥
kachh sa(n)g na chaalai samajh leh ||2||
- none of them shall go along with you; you must know that this is true! ||2||
ਇਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਹੋਇ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
eik bhagat naarain hoi sa(n)g ||
Only devotion to the Lord shall go with you.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਜੁ ਤਿਹ ਏਕ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੩॥੪॥
kahu naanak bhaj teh ek ra(n)g ||3||4||
Says Nanak, vibrate and meditate on the Lord with single-minded love. ||3||4||

ਕਹਾ ਭੂਲਿਓ ਰੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਲੋਭ ਲਾਗ ॥
kahaa bhoolio re jhooThe lobh laag ||
Why do you wander lost, O mortal, attached to falsehood and greed?
ਕਛੁ ਬਿਗਰਿਓ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਅਜਹੁ ਜਾਗ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kachh bigario naahin ajahu jaag ||1|| rahaau ||
Nothing has been lost yet - there is still time to wake up! ||1||Pause||
ਸਮ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਕੈ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
sam supanai kai ih jag jaan ||
You must realize that this world is nothing more than a dream.
ਬਿਨਸੈ ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
binasai chhin mai saachee maan ||1||
In an instant, it shall perish; know this as true. ||1||
ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਸਤ ਨੀਤ ॥
sa(n)g terai har basat neet ||
The Lord constantly abides with you.
ਨਿਸ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਭਜੁ ਤਾਹਿ ਮੀਤ ॥੨॥
nis baasur bhaj taeh meet ||2||
Night and day, vibrate and meditate on Him, O my friend. ||2||
ਬਾਰ ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਸਹਾਇ ॥
baar a(n)t kee hoi sahai ||
At the very last instant, He shall be your Help and Support.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਨ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਗਾਇ ॥੩॥੫॥

ਜਗੁ ਕਊਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
jag kuooaa naam nahee cheet ||
The world is a crow; it does not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਗਿਰੈ ਦੇਖੁ ਭੀਤਿ ॥
naam bisaar girai dhekh bheet ||
Forgetting the Naam, it sees the bait, and pecks at it.
ਮਨੂਆ ਡੋਲੈ ਚੀਤਿ ਅਨੀਤਿ ॥
manooaa ddolai cheet aneet ||
The mind wavers unsteadily, in guilt and deceit.
ਜਗ ਸਿਉ ਤੂਟੀ ਝੂਠ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥
jag siau tooTee jhooTh pareet ||1||
I have shattered my attachment to the false world. ||1||
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਬਜਰੁ ਭਾਰੁ ॥
kaam karodh bikh bajar bhaar ||
The burden of sexual desire, anger and corruption is unbearable.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਗੁਨ ਚਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam binaa kaise gun chaar ||1|| rahaau ||
Without the Naam, how can the mortal maintain a virtuous lifestyle? ||1||Pause||
ਘਰੁ ਬਾਲੂ ਕਾ ਘੂਮਨ ਘੇਰਿ ॥
ghar baaloo kaa ghooman gher ||
The world is like a house of sand, built on a whirlpool;
ਬਰਖਸਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੁਦਬੁਦਾ ਹੇਰਿ ॥
barakhas baanee budhabudhaa her ||
it is like a bubble formed by drops of rain.
ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਬੂੰਦ ਤੇ ਧਰਿ ਚਕੁ ਫੇਰਿ ॥
maatr boo(n)dh te dhar chak fer ||
It is formed from a mere drop, when the Lord's wheel turns round.
ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਕੀ ਚੇਰਿ ॥੨॥
sarab jot naamai kee cher ||2||
The lights of all souls are the servants of the Lord's Name. ||2||
ਸਰਬ ਉਪਾਇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੋਰੁ ॥
sarab upai guroo sir mor ||
My Supreme Guru has created everything.
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਪਗ ਲਾਗਉ ਤੋਰ ॥
bhagat karau pag laagau tor ||
I perform devotional worship service to You, and fall at Your Feet, O Lord.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੋ ਚਾਹਉ ਤੁਝ ਓਰੁ ॥
naam rato chaahau tujh or ||
Imbued with Your Name, I long to be Yours.
ਨਾਮੁ ਦੁਰਾਇ ਚਲੈ ਸੋ ਚੋਰੁ ॥੩॥
naam dhurai chalai so chor ||3||
Those who do not let the Naam become manifest within themselves, depart like thieves in the end. ||3||
ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ਬਿਖੁ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
pat khoiee bikh a(n)chal pai ||
The mortal loses his honor, gathering sin and corruption.
ਸਾਚ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੋ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
saach naam rato pat siau ghar jai ||
But imbued with the Lord's Name, you shall go to your true home with honor.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਨੑਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
jo kichh keen(h)s prabh rajai ||
God does whatever He wills.
ਭੈ ਮਾਨੈ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥੪॥
bhai maanai nirabhau meree mai ||4||
One who abides in the Fear of God, becomes fearless, O my mother. ||4||
ਕਾਮਨਿ ਚਾਹੈ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਭੋਗੁ ॥
kaaman chaahai su(n)dhar bhog ||
The woman desires beauty and pleasure.
ਪਾਨ ਫੂਲ ਮੀਠੇ ਰਸ ਰੋਗ ॥
paan fool meeThe ras rog ||
But betel leaves, garlands of flowers and sweet tastes lead only to disease.
ਖੀਲੈ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਤੇਤੋ ਸੋਗ ॥
kheelai bigasai teto sog ||
The more she plays and enjoys, the more she suffers in sorrow.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਕੀਨੑਸਿ ਹੋਗ ॥੫॥
prabh saranaagat keen(h)s hog ||5||
But when she enters into the Sanctuary of God, whatever she wishes comes to pass. ||5||
ਕਾਪੜੁ ਪਹਿਰਸਿ ਅਧਿਕੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
kaapaR pahiras adhik seegaar ||
She wears beautiful clothes with all sorts of decorations.
ਮਾਟੀ ਫੂਲੀ ਰੂਪੁ ਬਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
maaTee foolee roop bikaar ||
But the flowers turn to dust, and her beauty leads her into evil.
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਬਾਂਧੋ ਬਾਰੁ ॥
aasaa manasaa baa(n)dho baar ||
Hope and desire have blocked the doorway.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੂਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਬਾਰੁ ॥੬॥
naam binaa soonaa ghar baar ||6||
Without the Naam, one's hearth and home are deserted. ||6||
ਗਾਛਹੁ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਆਰਿ ॥
gaachhahu putree raaj kuaar ||
O princess, my daughter, run away from this place!
ਨਾਮੁ ਭਣਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਦੋਤੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥
naam bhanahu sach dhot savaar ||
Chant the True Name, and embellish your days.
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅਧਾਰਿ ॥
priau sevahu prabh prem adhaar ||
Serve your Beloved Lord God, and lean on the Support of His Love.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਬਿਖੁ ਤਿਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥੭॥
gur sabadhee bikh tiaas nivaar ||7||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, abandon your thirst for corruption and poison. ||7||
ਮੋਹਨਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ॥
mohan moh leeaa man moh ||
My Fascinating Lord has fascinated my mind.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨਾ ਤੋਹਿ ॥
gur kai sabadh pachhaanaa toh ||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I have realized You, Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਢੇ ਚਾਹਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥
naanak Thaadde chaaheh prabhoo dhuaar ||
Nanak stands longingly at God's Door.
ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੧॥
tere naam sa(n)tokhe kirapaa dhaar ||8||1||
I am content and satisfied with Your Name; please shower me with Your Mercy. ||8||1||

ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲਉ ਭਰਮਸਿ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ॥
man bhoolau bharamas aai jai ||
The mind is deluded by doubt; it comes and goes in reincarnation.
ਅਤਿ ਲੁਬਧ ਲੁਭਾਨਉ ਬਿਖਮ ਮਾਇ ॥
at lubadh lubhaanau bikham mai ||
It is lured by the poisonous lure of Maya.
ਨਹ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਦੀਸੈ ਏਕ ਭਾਇ ॥
neh asathir dheesai ek bhai ||
It does not remain stable in the Love of the One Lord.
ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨ ਕੁੰਡਲੀਆ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
jiau meen ku(n)ddaleeaa ka(n)Th pai ||1||
Like the fish, its neck is pierced by the hook. ||1||
ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲਉ ਸਮਝਸਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
man bhoolau samajhas saach nai ||
The deluded mind is instructed by the True Name.
