ਤਿਨ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਚਿ ਮਾਚਿ ਹਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਓ ਜੋ ਕਾਮਿ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
tin siau raach maach hit laio jo kaam nahee gaavaaree ||1||
He is hand and glove with those who are of no use to him; the poor wretch is affectionately involved with them. ||1||
ਹਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾ ਹਮਰੋ ਬਸੁ ਚਾਰੀ ॥
hau naahee naahee kichh meraa naa hamaro bas chaaree ||
I am nothing; nothing belongs to me. I have no power or control.
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥੩੬॥੫੯॥
karan karaavan naanak ke prabh sa(n)tan sa(n)g udhaaree ||2||36||59||
O Creator, Cause of causes, Lord God of Nanak, I am saved and redeemed in the Society of the Saints. ||2||36||59||

Saarang, Fifth Mehla:
ਮੋਹਨੀ ਮੋਹਤ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਹੋਰੀ ॥
mohanee mohat rahai na horee ||
The Great Enticer Maya keeps enticing, and cannot be stopped.
ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸਿਧ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਤੁਟੈ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saadhik sidh sagal kee piaaree tuTai na kaahoo toree ||1|| rahaau ||
She is the Beloved of all the Siddhas and seekers; no one can fend her off. ||1||Pause||
ਖਟੁ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਚਰਤ ਰਸਨਾਗਰ ਤੀਰਥ ਗਵਨ ਨ ਥੋਰੀ ॥
khaT saasatr ucharat rasanaagar teerath gavan na thoree ||
Reciting the six Shaastras and visiting sacred shrines of pilgrimage do not decrease her power.
ਪੂਜਾ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਤਪੀਆ ਊਹਾ ਗੈਲਿ ਨ ਛੋਰੀ ॥੧॥
poojaa chakar barat nem tapeeaa uoohaa gail na chhoree ||1||
Devotional worship, ceremonial religious marks, fasting, vows and penance - none of these will make her release her hold. ||1||
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਹੋਤ ਜਗੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਮੋਰੀ ॥
a(n)dh koop meh patit hot jag sa(n)tahu karahu param gat moree ||
The world has fallen into the deep dark pit. O Saints, please bless me with the supreme status of salvation.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਭਇਓ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਭੋਰੀ ॥੨॥੩੭॥੬੦॥
saadhasa(n)gat naanak bhio mukataa dharasan pekhat bhoree ||2||37||60||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak has been liberated, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of their Darshan, even for an instant. ||2||37||60||

ਕਹਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਰੇ ਖਾਟਿ ਖਾਟੁਲੀ ॥
kahaa kareh re khaaT khaaTulee ||
Why are you working so hard to earn profits?
ਪਵਨਿ ਅਫਾਰ ਤੋਰ ਚਾਮਰੋ ਅਤਿ ਜਜਰੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਰੇ ਮਾਟੁਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pavan afaar tor chaamaro at jajaree teree re maaTulee ||1|| rahaau ||
You are puffed up like a bag of air, and your skin is very brittle. Your body has grown old and dusty. ||1||Pause||
ਊਹੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿਓ ਊਹਾ ਲੇ ਧਰਿਓ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਸਾ ਮਾਸ ਦੇਤ ਝਾਟੁਲੀ ॥
uoohee te hario uoohaa le dhario jaise baasaa maas dhet jhaaTulee ||
You move things from here to there, like the hawk swooping down on the flesh of its prey.
ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਜਿਉ ਸਫਰੀ ਉਦਰੁ ਭਰੈ ਬਹਿ ਹਾਟੁਲੀ ॥੧॥
dhevanahaar bisaario a(n)dhule jiau safaree udhar bharai beh haaTulee ||1||
You are blind - you have forgotten the Great Giver. You fill your belly like a traveller at an inn. ||1||
ਸਾਦ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਝੂਠ ਰਸ ਜਹ ਜਾਨੋ ਤਹ ਭੀਰ ਬਾਟੁਲੀ ॥
saadh bikaar bikaar jhooTh ras jeh jaano teh bheer baaTulee ||
You are entangled in the taste of false pleasures and corrupt sins; the path which you have to take is very narrow.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਮਝੁ ਰੇ ਇਆਨੇ ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲਿ ਖੁਲੑੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਗਾਂਠੁਲੀ ॥੨॥੩੮॥੬੧॥
kahu naanak samajh re iaane aaj kaal khul(h)ai teree gaa(n)Thulee ||2||38||61||
Says Nanak: figure it out, you ignorant fool! Today or tomorrow, the knot will be untied! ||2||38||61||

ਗੁਰ ਜੀਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਨਿਓ ॥
gur jeeau sa(n)g tuhaarai jaanio ||
O Dear Guru, by associating with You, I have come to know the Lord.
ਕੋਟਿ ਜੋਧ ਉਆ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਪੁਛੀਐ ਤਾਂ ਦਰਗਹ ਭੀ ਮਾਨਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
koT jodh uaa kee baat na puchheeaai taa(n) dharageh bhee maanio ||1|| rahaau ||
There are millions of heroes, and no one pays any attention to them, but in the Court of the Lord, I am honored and respected. ||1||Pause||
ਕਵਨ ਮੂਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਕਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਵਨ ਰੂਪੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਨਿਓ ॥
kavan mool praanee kaa kaheeaai kavan roop dhirasaTaanio ||
What is the origin of the human beings? How beautiful they are!
ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਭਈ ਮਾਟੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਬਖਾਨਿਓ ॥੧॥
jot pragaas bhiee maaTee sa(n)g dhulabh dheh bakhaanio ||1||
When God infuses His Light into clay, the human body is judged to be precious. ||1||
ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਸੇਵ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਜਪ ਤਾਪਾ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਨਿਓ ॥
tum te sev tum te jap taapaa tum te tat pachhaanio ||
From You, I have learned to serve; from You, I have learned to chant and meditate; from You, I have realized the essence of reality.
ਕਰੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿ ਕਟੀ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਨਿਓ ॥੨॥੩੯॥੬੨॥
kar masatak dhar kaTee jevaree naanak dhaas dhasaanio ||2||39||62||
Placing His Hand on my forehead, He has cut away the bonds which held me; O Nanak, I am the slave of His slaves. ||2||39||62||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਓ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਨਾਮ ॥
har har dheeo sevak kau naam ||
The Lord has blessed His servant with His Name.
ਮਾਨਸੁ ਕਾ ਕੋ ਬਪੁਰੋ ਭਾਈ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਰਾਖਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maanas kaa ko bapuro bhaiee jaa ko raakhaa raam ||1|| rahaau ||
What can any poor mortal do to someone who has the Lord as his Savior and Protector? ||1||Pause||
ਆਪਿ ਮਹਾ ਜਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਪੰਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੈ ਕਾਮ ॥
aap mahaa jan aape pa(n)chaa aap sevak kai kaam ||
He Himself is the Great Being; He Himself is the Leader. He Himself accomplishes the tasks of His servant.
ਆਪੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਤ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮ ॥੧॥
aape sagale dhoot bidhaare Thaakur a(n)tarajaam ||1||
Our Lord and Master destroys all demons; He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||1||
ਆਪੇ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਆਪਿ ਕੀਓ ਬੰਧਾਨ ॥
aape pat raakhee sevak kee aap keeo ba(n)dhaan ||
He Himself saves the honor of His servants; He Himself blesses them with stability.
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਰਾਖੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਨ ॥੨॥੪੦॥੬੩॥
aadh jugaadh sevak kee raakhai naanak ko prabh jaan ||2||40||63||
From the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages, He saves His servants. O Nanak, how rare is the person who knows God. ||2||40||63||

Saarang, Fifth Mehla:
ਤੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ਸਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥
too mere meet sakhaa har praan ||
O Lord, You are my Best Friend, my Companion, my Breath of Life.
ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤੋ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਧਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man dhan jeeau pi(n)dd sabh tumaraa ih tan seeto tumarai dhaan ||1|| rahaau ||
My mind, wealth, body and soul are all Yours; this body is sewn together by Your Blessing. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਦੀਏ ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਦੀਏ ਮਾਨ ॥
tum hee dhe'ee anik prakaaraa tum hee dhe'ee maan ||
You have blessed me with all sorts of gifts; you have blessed me with honor and respect.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਨ ॥੧॥
sadhaa sadhaa tum hee pat raakhahu a(n)tarajaamee jaan ||1||
Forever and ever, You preserve my honor, O Inner-knower, O Searcher of hearts. ||1||
