ਪੰਕਜ ਮੋਹ ਨਿਘਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਘਰਤ ਕਾਢਿ ਕਢਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
pa(n)kaj moh nigharat hai praanee gur nigharat kaadd kaddaavaigo ||
The mortal beings are sinking in the swamp of emotional attachment; the Guru lifts them up, and saves them from sinking.
ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਜਨ ਆਏ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਾਥੀ ਦੇ ਨਿਕਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੪॥
traeh traeh saran jan aae gur haathee dhe nikalaavaigo ||4||
Crying, ""Save me! Save me!"", the humble come to His Sanctuary; the Guru reaches out His Hand, and lifts them up. ||4||
ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਸਭੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਖੇਲੁ ਖਿਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
supana(n)tar sa(n)saar sabh baajee sabh baajee khel khilaavaigo ||
The whole world is like a game in a dream, all a game. God plays and causes the game to be played.
ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਚਾਲਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥
laahaa naam gurmat lai chaalahu har dharageh paidhaa jaavaigo ||5||
So earn the Profit of the Naam by following the Guru's Teachings; you shall go to the Court of the Lord in robes of honor. ||5||
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਾਪ ਕੋਇਲੇ ਆਨਿ ਜਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
haumai karai karaavai haumai paap koile aan jamaavaigo ||
They act in egotism, and make others act in egotism; they collect and gather up the blackness of sin.
ਆਇਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੋਏ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੇ ਸੋ ਖਵਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੬॥
aaiaa kaal dhukhadhaiee hoe jo beeje so khavalaavaigo ||6||
And when death comes, they suffer in agony; they must eat what they have planted. ||6||
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਲੈ ਖਰਚੁ ਚਲੇ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
sa(n)tahu raam naam dhan sa(n)chahu lai kharach chale pat paavaigo ||
O Saints, gather the Wealth of the Lord's Name; if you depart after packing these provisions, you shall be honored.
ਖਾਇ ਖਰਚਿ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥
khai kharach dheveh bahuteraa har dhedhe toT na aavaigo ||7||
So eat, spend, consume and give abundantly; the Lord will give - there will be no deficiency. ||7||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਹੈ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
raam naam dhan hai ridh a(n)tar dhan gur saranaiee paavaigo ||
The wealth of the Lord's Name is deep within the heart. In the Sanctuary of the Guru, this wealth is found.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਭੰਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੮॥੫॥
naanak dhiaa dhiaa kar dheenee dhukh dhaaladh bha(n)j samaavaigo ||8||5||
O Nanak, God has been kind and compassionate; He has blessed me. Removing pain and poverty, He has blended me with Himself. ||8||5||

Kaanraa, Fourth Mehla:
ਮਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
man satigur saran dhiaavaigo ||
O mind, seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru, and meditate.
ਲੋਹਾ ਹਿਰਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਰਸ ਗੁਨੁ ਪਾਰਸ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
lohaa hiran hovai sa(n)g paaras gun paaras ko hoi aavaigo ||1|| rahaau ||
Iron is transformed into gold by touching the philosopher's stone; it takes on its qualities. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਜੋ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
satigur mahaa purakh hai paaras jo laagai so fal paavaigo ||
The True Guru, the Great Primal Being, is the philosopher's stone. Whoever is attached to Him receives fruitful rewards.
ਜਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਤਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥
jiau gur upadhes tare prahilaadhaa gur sevak paij rakhaavaigo ||1||
Just as Prahlaad was saved by the Guru's Teachings, the Guru protects the honor of His servant. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੁ ਬਚਨੁ ਹੈ ਨੀਕੋ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
satigur bachan bachan hai neeko gur bachanee a(n)mrit paavaigo ||
The Word of the True Guru is the most Sublime and Noble Word. Through the Guru's Word, the Ambrosial Nectar is obtained.
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਬਰੀਕਿ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦ ਪਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੁਖ ਬਚਨ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੨॥
jiau a(n)bareek amaraa padh paae satigur mukh bachan dhiaavaigo ||2||
Ambreek the king was blessed with the status of immortality, meditating on the Word of the True Guru. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਧਾ ਸੁਧਾ ਕਰਿ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
satigur saran saran man bhaiee sudhaa sudhaa kar dhiaavaigo ||
The Sanctuary, the Protection and Sanctuary of the True Guru is pleasing to the mind. It is sacred and pure - meditate on it.
ਦਇਆਲ ਦੀਨ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੩॥
dhiaal dheen bhe hai satigur har maarag pa(n)th dhikhaavaigo ||3||
The True Guru has become Merciful to the meek and the poor; He has shown me the Path, the Way to the Lord. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਏ ਸੇ ਥਾਪੇ ਤਿਨ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
satigur saran pe se thaape tin raakhan kau prabh aavaigo ||
Those who enter the Sanctuary of the True Guru are firmly established; God comes to protect them.
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਸਰੁ ਸੰਧੈ ਜਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਉਲਟੋ ਤਿਸੈ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੪॥
je ko sar sa(n)dhai jan uoopar fir ulaTo tisai lagaavaigo ||4||
If someone aims an arrow at the Lord's humble servant, it will turn around and hit him instead. ||4||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਨੁ ਦਿਵਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
har har har har har sar seveh tin dharageh maan dhivaavaigo ||
Those who bathe in the Sacred Pool of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har, Har, are blessed with honor in His Court.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਲਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥
gurmat gurmat gurmat dhiaaveh har gal mil mel milaavaigo ||5||
Those who meditate on the Guru's Teachings, the Guru's Instructions, the Guru's Wisdom, are united in the Lord's Union; He hugs them close in His Embrace. ||5||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦੁ ਬੇਦੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
gurmukh naadh bedh hai gurmukh gur parachai naam dhiaavaigo ||
The Guru's Word is the Sound-current of the Naad, The Guru's Word is the wisdom of the Vedas; coming in contact with the Guru, meditate on the Naam.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੬॥
har har roop har roopo hovai har jan kau pooj karaavaigo ||6||
In the Image of the Lord, Har, Har, one becomes the Embodiment of the Lord. The Lord makes His humble servant worthy of worship. ||6||
ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਤੇ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਭਰਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
saakat nar satigur nahee keeaa te bemukh har bharamaavaigo ||
The faithless cynic does not submit to the True Guru; the Lord makes the non-believer wander in confusion.
ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰੰਗਿ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥
lobh lahar suaan kee sa(n)gat bikh maiaa kara(n)g lagaavaigo ||7||
The waves of greed are like packs of dogs. The poison of Maya sticks to the body-skeleton. ||7||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਕਾ ਤਾਰਕੁ ਲਗਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
raam naam sabh jag kaa taarak lag sa(n)gat naam dhiaavaigo ||
The Lord's Name is the Saving Grace of the whole world; join the Sangat, and meditate on the Naam.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੮॥੬॥
naanak raakh raakh prabh mere satasa(n)gat raakh samaavaigo ||8||6||
O my God, please protect and preserve Nanak in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; save him, and let him merge in You. ||8||6||
