ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬਸੰਤ ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵਹ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਹ ॥
ghaT ghaT basa(n)t baasudheveh paarabraham paramesureh ||
The Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent, Luminous Lord, dwells in each and every heart.
ਜਾਚੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੰ ਨਹ ਬਿਸਰੰਤਿ ਨਹ ਬਿਸਰੰਤਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਣਹ ॥੨੧॥
jaacha(n)t naanak kirapaal prasaadha(n) neh bisara(n)t neh bisara(n)t naaraineh ||21||
Nanak begs for this blessing from the Merciful Lord, that he may never forget Him, never forget Him. ||21||
ਨਹ ਸਮਰਥੰ ਨਹ ਸੇਵਕੰ ਨਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮੰ ॥
neh samaratha(n) neh sevaka(n) neh preet param purakhotama(n) ||
I have no power; I do not serve You, and I do not love You, O Supreme Sublime Lord God.
ਤਵ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਿਮਰਤੇ ਨਾਮੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੰ ॥੨੨॥
tav prasaadh simarate naama(n) naanak kirapaal har har gura(n) ||22||
By Your Grace, Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Merciful Lord, Har, Har. ||22||
ਭਰਣ ਪੋਖਣ ਕਰੰਤ ਜੀਆ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਛਾਦਨ ਦੇਵੰਤ ਦਾਨੰ ॥
bharan pokhan kara(n)t jeeaa bisraam chhaadhan dheva(n)t dhaana(n) ||
The Lord feeds and sustains all living beings; He blesses them gifts of restful peace and fine clothes.
ਸ੍ਰਿਜੰਤ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮ ਚਤੁਰ ਚੇਤਨਹ ॥
siraja(n)t ratan janam chatur chetaneh ||
He created the jewel of human life, with all its cleverness and intelligence.
ਵਰਤੰਤਿ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਹ ॥
varata(n)t sukh aana(n)dh prasaadheh ||
By His Grace, mortals abide in peace and bliss.
ਸਿਮਰੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥
simara(n)t naanak har har hare ||
O Nanak, meditating in remembrance on the Lord, Har, Har, Haray,
ਅਨਿਤੵ ਰਚਨਾ ਨਿਰਮੋਹ ਤੇ ॥੨੩॥
anitaye rachanaa niramoh te ||23||
the mortal is released from attachment to the world. ||23||
ਦਾਨੰ ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬੇਣ ਭੁੰਚੰਤੇ ਮਹੀਪਤੇ ॥
dhaana(n) paraa pooraben bhu(n)cha(n)te maheepate ||
The kings of the earth are eating up the blessings of the good karma of their past lives.
ਬਿਪਰੀਤ ਬੁਧੵੰ ਮਾਰਤ ਲੋਕਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿਰੰਕਾਲ ਦੁਖ ਭੋਗਤੇ ॥੨੪॥
bipareet budhaye(n) maarat lokeh naanak chira(n)kaal dhukh bhogate ||24||
Those cruel-minded rulers who oppress the people, O Nanak, shall suffer in pain for a very long time. ||24||
ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ਜਸੵ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਰਿਦੰਤਰਹ ॥
birathaa anugraha(n) gobi(n)dheh jasaye simaran ridha(n)tareh ||
Those who meditate in remembrance on the Lord in their hearts, look upon even pain as God's Grace.
ਆਰੋਗੵੰ ਮਹਾ ਰੋਗੵੰ ਬਿਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੇ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮਯਹ ॥੨੫॥
aarogaye(n) mahaa rogaye(n) bisimrite karunaa mayeh ||25||
The healthy person is very sick, if he does not remember the Lord, the Embodiment of Mercy. ||25||
ਰਮਣੰ ਕੇਵਲੰ ਕੀਰਤਨੰ ਸੁਧਰਮੰ ਦੇਹ ਧਾਰਣਹ ॥
ramana(n) kevala(n) keeratana(n) sudharama(n) dheh dhaaraneh ||
To sing the Kirtan of God's Praises is the righteous duty incurred by taking birth in this human body.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੀਵਤੰ ਸੰਤ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪੵਤੇ ॥੨੬॥
a(n)mirat naam naarain naanak peevata(n) sa(n)t na tirapayete ||26||
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is Ambrosial Nectar, O Nanak. The Saints drink it in, and never have enough of it. ||26||
ਸਹਣ ਸੀਲ ਸੰਤੰ ਸਮ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਸੵ ਦੁਰਜਨਹ ॥
sahan seel sa(n)ta(n) sam mitrasaye dhurajaneh ||
The Saints are tolerant and good-natured; friends and enemies are the same to them.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੋਜਨ ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੇਣ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਆਵਧ ਹੋਇ ਉਪਤਿਸਟਤੇ ॥੨੭॥
naanak bhojan anik prakaaren ni(n)dhak aavadh hoi upatisaTate ||27||
O Nanak, it is all the same to them, whether someone offers them all sorts of foods, or slanders them, or draws weapons to kill them. ||27||
ਤਿਰਸਕਾਰ ਨਹ ਭਵੰਤਿ ਨਹ ਭਵੰਤਿ ਮਾਨ ਭੰਗਨਹ ॥
tirasakaar neh bhava(n)t neh bhava(n)t maan bha(n)ganeh ||
They pay no attention to dishonor or disrespect.
ਸੋਭਾ ਹੀਨ ਨਹ ਭਵੰਤਿ ਨਹ ਪੋਹੰਤਿ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੁਖਨਹ ॥
sobhaa heen neh bhava(n)t neh poha(n)t sa(n)saar dhukhaneh ||
They are not bothered by gossip; the miseries of the world do not touch them.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੰਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੁਖ ਬਾਸਨਹ ॥੨੮॥
gobi(n)dh naam japa(n)t mil saadh sa(n)geh naanak se praanee sukh baasaneh ||28||
Those who join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and chant the Name of the Lord of the Universe - O Nanak, those mortals abide in peace. ||28||
ਸੈਨਾ ਸਾਧ ਸਮੂਹ ਸੂਰ ਅਜਿਤੰ ਸੰਨਾਹੰ ਤਨਿ ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰਤਾਹ ॥
sainaa saadh samooh soor ajita(n) sa(n)naaha(n) tan ni(n)mrataeh ||
The Holy people are an invincible army of spiritual warriors; their bodies are protected by the armor of humility.
ਆਵਧਹ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਮਣੰ ਓਟ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਕਰ ਚਰਮਣਹ ॥
aavadheh gun gobi(n)dh ramana(n) oT gur sabadh kar charamaneh ||
Their weapons are the Glorious Praises of the Lord which they chant; their Shelter and Shield is the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਆਰੂੜਤੇ ਅਸ੍ਵ ਰਥ ਨਾਗਹ ਬੁਝੰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਰਗਹ ॥
aarooRate asavai rath naageh bujha(n)te prabh maarageh ||
The horses, chariots and elephants they ride are their way to realize God's Path.
ਬਿਚਰਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਯੰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਸੈਨਾ ਧਾਯੰਤੇ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥
bicharate nirabhaya(n) satr sainaa dhaaya(n)te guopaal keerataneh ||
They walk fearlessly through the armies of their enemies; they attack them with the Kirtan of God's Praises.
ਜਿਤਤੇ ਬਿਸ੍ਵ ਸੰਸਾਰਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਸੵੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਪੰਚ ਤਸਕਰਹ ॥੨੯॥
jitate bisavai sa(n)saareh naanak vasaye(n) karot pa(n)ch tasakareh ||29||
They conquer the entire world, O Nanak, and overpower the five thieves. ||29||
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਨਗਰੰ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਛਾਯਾ ਰਚਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿਹ ॥
mirag tirasanaa ga(n)dharab nagara(n) dhrum chhaayaa rach dhuramateh ||
Misled by evil-mindedness, mortals are engrossed in the mirage of the illusory world, like the passing shade of a tree.
ਤਤਹ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਮੋਹ ਮਿਥੵਾ ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਹ ॥੩੦॥
tateh kuTa(n)b moh mithayeaa simara(n)t naanak raam raam naameh ||30||
Emotional attachment to family is false, so Nanak meditates in remembrance on the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam. ||30||
ਨਚ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਿਗਮੰ ਨਚ ਗੁਣਗੵ ਨਾਮ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥
nach bidhiaa nidhaan nigama(n) nach gunagaye naam keerataneh ||
I do not possess the treasure of the wisdom of the Vedas, nor do I possess the merits of the Praises of the Naam.
ਨਚ ਰਾਗ ਰਤਨ ਕੰਠੰ ਨਹ ਚੰਚਲ ਚਤੁਰ ਚਾਤੁਰਹ ॥
nach raag ratan ka(n)Tha(n) neh cha(n)chal chatur chaatureh ||
I do not have a beautiful voice to sing jewelled melodies; I am not clever, wise or shrewd.
ਭਾਗ ਉਦਿਮ ਲਬਧੵੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਖਲ ਪੰਡਿਤਹ ॥੩੧॥
bhaag udhim labadhaye(n) maiaa naanak saadhasa(n)g khal pa(n)dditeh ||31||
By destiny and hard work, the wealth of Maya is obtained. O Nanak, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, even fools become religious scholars. ||31||
ਕੰਠ ਰਮਣੀਯ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਮਾਲਾ ਹਸਤ ਊਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਧਾਰਣੀ ॥
ka(n)Th ramaneey raam raam maalaa hasat uooch prem dhaaranee ||
The mala around my neck is the chanting of the Lord's Name. The Love of the Lord is my silent chanting.
ਜੀਹ ਭਣਿ ਜੋ ਉਤਮ ਸਲੋਕ ਉਧਰਣੰ ਨੈਨ ਨੰਦਨੀ ॥੩੨॥
jeeh bhan jo utam salok udharana(n) nain na(n)dhanee ||32||
Chanting this most Sublime Word brings salvation and joy to the eyes. ||32||
ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹੀਣਸੵ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੰਤ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਸਟਣਹ ॥
gur ma(n)tr heenasaye jo praanee dhiraga(n)t janam bhrasaTaneh ||
That mortal who lacks the Guru's Mantra - cursed and contaminated is his life.
ਕੂਕਰਹ ਸੂਕਰਹ ਗਰਧਭਹ ਕਾਕਹ ਸਰਪਨਹ ਤੁਲਿ ਖਲਹ ॥੩੩॥
kookareh sookareh garadhabheh kaakeh sarapaneh tul khaleh ||33||
That blockhead is just a dog, a pig, a jackass, a crow, a snake. ||33||
ਚਰਣਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਨੰ ਰਿਦਯੰ ਨਾਮ ਧਾਰਣਹ ॥
charanaarabi(n)dh bhajana(n) ridhaya(n) naam dhaaraneh ||
Whoever contemplates the Lord's Lotus Feet, and enshrines His Name within the heart,
