ਹਸਤੀ ਘੋੜੇ ਦੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਾਸਾ ॥
hasatee ghoRe dhekh vigaasaa ||
He is pleased at the sight of his elephants and horses
ਲਸਕਰ ਜੋੜੇ ਨੇਬ ਖਵਾਸਾ ॥
lasakar joRe neb khavaasaa ||
and his armies assembled, his servants and his soldiers.
ਗਲਿ ਜੇਵੜੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੇ ਫਾਸਾ ॥੨॥
gal jevaRee haumai ke faasaa ||2||
But the noose of egotism is tightening around his neck. ||2||
ਰਾਜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
raaj kamaavai dheh dhis saaree ||
His rule may extend in all ten directions;
ਮਾਣੈ ਰੰਗ ਭੋਗ ਬਹੁ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
maanai ra(n)g bhog bahu naaree ||
he may revel in pleasures, and enjoy many women
ਜਿਉ ਨਰਪਤਿ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
jiau narapat supanai bhekhaaree ||3||
- but he is just a beggar, who in his dream, is a king. ||3||
ਏਕੁ ਕੁਸਲੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਬਤਾਇਆ ॥
ek kusal mo kau satiguroo bataiaa ||
The True Guru has shown me that there is only one pleasure.
ਹਰਿ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਭਗਤਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
har jo kichh kare su har kiaa bhagataa bhaiaa ||
Whatever the Lord does, is pleasing to the Lord's devotee.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
jan naanak haumai maar samaiaa ||4||
Servant Nanak has abolished his ego, and he is absorbed in the Lord. ||4||
ਇਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੁਸਲ ਹੋਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
ein bidh kusal hot mere bhaiee ||
This is the way to find happiness, O my Siblings of Destiny.
ਇਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
eiau paieeaai har raam sahaiee ||1|| rahaau dhoojaa ||
This is the way to find the Lord, our Help and Support. ||1||Second Pause||
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
gauRee guaareree mahalaa panjavaa ||
Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Mehla:
ਕਿਉ ਭ੍ਰਮੀਐ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
kiau bhrameeaai bhram kis kaa hoiee ||
Why do you doubt? What do you doubt?
ਜਾ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸੋਈ ॥
jaa jal thal maheeal raviaa soiee ||
God is pervading the water, the land and the sky.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥੧॥
gurmukh ubare manmukh pat khoiee ||1||
The Gurmukhs are saved, while the self-willed manmukhs lose their honor. ||1||
ਜਿਸੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਦਇਆਰਾ ॥
jis raakhai aap raam dhiaaraa ||
One who is protected by the Merciful Lord
ਤਿਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਪਹੁਚਨਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tis nahee dhoojaa ko pahuchanahaaraa ||1|| rahaau ||
- no one else can rival him. ||1||Pause||
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੁ ਅਨੰਤਾ ॥
sabh meh varatai ek ana(n)taa ||
The Infinite One is pervading among all.
ਤਾ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੋਉ ਹੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ॥
taa too(n) sukh soau hoi achi(n)taa ||
So sleep in peace, and don't worry.
ਓਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਵਰਤੰਤਾ ॥੨॥
oh sabh kichh jaanai jo varata(n)taa ||2||
He knows everything which happens. ||2||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਜਿਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
manmukh mue jin dhoojee piaasaa ||
The self-willed manmukhs are dying in the thirst of duality.
ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਵਹਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਲਿਖਿਆਸਾ ॥
bahu jonee bhaveh dhur kirat likhiaasaa ||
They wander lost through countless incarnations; this is their pre-ordained destiny.
ਜੈਸਾ ਬੀਜਹਿ ਤੈਸਾ ਖਾਸਾ ॥੩॥
jaisaa beejeh taisaa khaasaa ||3||
As they plant, so shall they harvest. ||3||
ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਵਿਗਾਸਾ ॥
dhekh dharas man bhiaa vigaasaa ||
Beholding the Blessed Vision, my mind has blossomed forth.
ਸਭੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
sabh nadharee aaiaa braham paragaasaa ||
And now everywhere I look, God is revealed to me.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੭੧॥
jan naanak kee har pooran aasaa ||4||2||71||
Servant Nanak's hopes have been fulfilled by the Lord. ||4||2||71||

ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਭਏ ਕੀਟ ਪਤੰਗਾ ॥
kiee janam bhe keeT pata(n)gaa ||
In so many incarnations, you were a worm and a moth;
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਗਜ ਮੀਨ ਕੁਰੰਗਾ ॥
kiee janam gaj meen kura(n)gaa ||
in so many incarnations, you were an elephant, a fish and a deer.
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਪੰਖੀ ਸਰਪ ਹੋਇਓ ॥
kiee janam pa(n)khee sarap hoio ||
In so many incarnations, you were a bird and a snake.
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਹੈਵਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਖ ਜੋਇਓ ॥੧॥
kiee janam haivar birakh joio ||1||
In so many incarnations, you were yoked as an ox and a horse. ||1||
ਮਿਲੁ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰੀਆ ॥
mil jagadhees milan kee bareeaa ||
Meet the Lord of the Universe - now is the time to meet Him.
ਚਿਰੰਕਾਲ ਇਹ ਦੇਹ ਸੰਜਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chira(n)kaal ieh dheh sa(n)jareeaa ||1|| rahaau ||
After so very long, this human body was fashioned for you. ||1||Pause||
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਸੈਲ ਗਿਰਿ ਕਰਿਆ ॥
kiee janam sail gir kariaa ||
In so many incarnations, you were rocks and mountains;
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਗਰਭ ਹਿਰਿ ਖਰਿਆ ॥
kiee janam garabh hir khariaa ||
in so many incarnations, you were aborted in the womb;
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਸਾਖ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
kiee janam saakh kar upaiaa ||
in so many incarnations, you developed branches and leaves;
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
lakh chauraaseeh jon bhramaiaa ||2||
you wandered through 8.4 million incarnations. ||2||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਭਇਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ॥
saadhasa(n)g bhio janam paraapat ||
Through the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you obtained this human life.
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ॥
kar sevaa bhaj har har gurmat ||
Do seva - selfless service; follow the Guru's Teachings, and vibrate the Lord's Name, Har, Har.
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
tiaag maan jhooTh abhimaan ||
Abandon pride, falsehood and arrogance.
ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਹਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
jeevat mareh dharageh paravaan ||3||
Remain dead while yet alive, and you shall be welcomed in the Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਆ ਸੁ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
jo kichh hoaa su tujh te hog ||
Whatever has been, and whatever shall be, comes from You, Lord.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
avar na dhoojaa karanai jog ||
No one else can do anything at all.
ਤਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਲੈਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
taa mileeaai jaa laih milai ||
We are united with You, when You unite us with Yourself.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੭੨॥
kahu naanak har har gun gai ||4||3||72||
Says Nanak, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||3||72||

ਕਰਮ ਭੂਮਿ ਮਹਿ ਬੋਅਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
karam bhoom meh boahu naam ||
In the field of karma, plant the seed of the Naam.
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਕਾਮੁ ॥
pooran hoi tumaaraa kaam ||
Your works shall be brought to fruition.
ਫਲ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਜਮ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ॥
fal paaveh miTai jam traas ||
You shall obtain these fruits, and the fear of death shall be dispelled.
ਨਿਤ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਜਾਸ ॥੧॥
nit gaaveh har har gun jaas ||1||
Sing continually the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
har har naam a(n)tar ur dhaar ||
Keep the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, enshrined in your heart,
ਸੀਘਰ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
seeghar kaaraj leh savaar ||1|| rahaau ||
and your affairs shall be quickly resolved. ||1||Pause||
ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਹੋਹੁ ਸਾਵਧਾਨੁ ॥
apane prabh siau hoh saavadhaan ||
Be always attentive to your God;
ਤਾ ਤੂੰ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
taa too(n) dharageh paaveh maan ||
thus you shall be honored in His Court.
