ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Gauree, Fifth Mehla:
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਆਇਓ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ॥
jog jugat sun aaio gur te ||
I came to the Guru, to learn the Way of Yoga.
ਮੋ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mo kau satigur sabadh bujhaio ||1|| rahaau ||
The True Guru has revealed it to me through the Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਨਉ ਖੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੀ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਾ ॥
nau kha(n)dd pirathamee is tan meh raviaa nimakh nimakh namasakaaraa ||
He is contained in the nine continents of the world, and within this body; each and every moment, I humbly bow to Him.
ਦੀਖਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਕਾਨੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਿਓ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
dheekhiaa gur kee mu(n)dhraa kaanee dhiraRio ek nira(n)kaaraa ||1||
I have made the Guru's Teachings my ear-rings, and I have enshrined the One Formless Lord within my being. ||1||
ਪੰਚ ਚੇਲੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਏ ਇਕਤ੍ਰਾ ਏਕਸੁ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਏ ॥
pa(n)ch chele mil bhe ikatraa ekas kai vas ke'ee ||
I have brought the five disciples together, and they are now under the control of the one mind.
ਦਸ ਬੈਰਾਗਨਿ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਤਬ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਗੀ ਥੀਏ ॥੨॥
dhas bairaagan aagiaakaaree tab niramal jogee the'ee ||2||
When the ten hermits become obedient to the Lord, then I became an immaculate Yogi. ||2||
ਭਰਮੁ ਜਰਾਇ ਚਰਾਈ ਬਿਭੂਤਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਏਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੇਖਿਆ ॥
bharam jarai charaiee bibhootaa pa(n)th ek kar pekhiaa ||
I have burnt my doubt, and smeared my body with the ashes. My path is to see the One and Only Lord.
ਸਹਜ ਸੂਖ ਸੋ ਕੀਨੀ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਜੋ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖਿਆ ॥੩॥
sahaj sookh so keenee bhugataa jo Thaakur masatak lekhiaa ||3||
I have made that intuitive peace my food; the Lord Master has written this pre-ordained destiny upon my forehead. ||3||
ਜਹ ਭਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਹਾ ਆਸਨੁ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਸਿੰਗੀ ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਨੀ ॥
jeh bhau naahee tahaa aasan baadhio si(n)gee anahat baanee ||
In that place where there is no fear, I have assumed my Yogic posture. The unstruck melody of His Bani is my horn.
ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਡੰਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਨੀ ॥੪॥
tat beechaar dda(n)ddaa kar raakhio jugat naam man bhaanee ||4||
I have made contemplation upon the essential reality my Yogic staff. The Love of the Name in my mind is my Yogic lifestyle. ||4||
ਐਸਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਭੇਟੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟੈ ॥
aaisaa jogee vaddabhaagee bheTai maiaa ke ba(n)dhan kaaTai ||
By great good fortune, such a Yogi is met, who cuts away the bonds of Maya.
ਸੇਵਾ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਕੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਗ ਚਾਟੈ ॥੫॥੧੧॥੧੩੨॥
sevaa pooj karau tis moorat kee naanak tis pag chaaTai ||5||11||132||
Nanak serves and adores this wondrous person, and kisses his feet. ||5||11||132||

ਅਨੂਪ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਸਗਲ ਧਿਆਇਲੇ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
anoop padhaarath naam sunahu sagal dhiaaile meetaa ||
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is an incomparably beautiful treasure. Listen, everyone, and meditate on it, O friends.
ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਚੀਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har aaukhadh jaa kau gur dheeaa taa ke niramal cheetaa ||1|| rahaau ||
Those, unto whom the Guru has given the Lord's medicine - their minds become pure and immaculate. ||1||Pause||
ਅੰਧਕਾਰੁ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਤਿਹ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
a(n)dhakaar miTio teh tan te gur sabadh dheepak paragaasaa ||
Darkness is dispelled from within that body, in which the Divine Light of the Guru's Shabad shines.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੀ ਜਾਲੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸਾ ॥੧॥
bhram kee jaalee taa kee kaaTee jaa kau saadhasa(n)gat bisavaiaasaa ||1||
The noose of doubt is cut away from those who place their faith in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||
ਤਾਰੀਲੇ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਾਰੂ ਬਿਖੜਾ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
taareele bhavajal taaroo bikhaRaa bohith saadhoo sa(n)gaa ||
The treacherous and terrifying world-ocean is crossed over, in the boat of the Saadh Sangat.
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੨॥
pooran hoiee man kee aasaa gur bheTio har ra(n)gaa ||2||
My mind's desires are fulfilled, meeting the Guru, in love with the Lord. ||2||
ਨਾਮ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਏ ॥
naam khajaanaa bhagatee paiaa man tan tirapat aghaae ||
The devotees have found the treasure of the Naam; their minds and bodies are satisfied and satiated.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਏ ॥੩॥੧੨॥੧੩੩॥
naanak har jeeau taa kau dhevai jaa kau hukam manaae ||3||12||133||
O Nanak, the Dear Lord gives it only to those who surrender to the Lord's Command. ||3||12||133||

ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਮੋਰੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਨਾਥ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੋਰੀ ॥
dhiaa miaa kar praanapat more moh anaath saran prabh toree ||
Please be kind and compassionate, O Lord of my life; I am helpless, and I seek Your Sanctuary, God.
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਹਾਥ ਦੇ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਕਛੂ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਉਕਤਿ ਨ ਮੋਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
a(n)dh koop meh haath dhe raakhahu kachhoo siaanap ukat na moree ||1|| rahaau ||
Please, give me Your Hand, and lift me up, out of the deep dark pit. I have no clever tricks at all. ||1||Pause||
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਨ ਹੋਰੀ ॥
karan karaavan sabh kichh tum hee tum samarath naahee an horee ||
You are the Doer, the Cause of causes - You are everything. You are All-powerful; there is no other than You.
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਸੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਜਿਨ ਭਾਗ ਮਥੋਰੀ ॥੧॥
tumaree gat mit tum hee jaanee se sevak jin bhaag mathoree ||1||
You alone know Your condition and extent. They alone become Your servants, upon whose foreheads such good destiny is recorded. ||1||
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਤੇ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੋਰੀ ॥
apune sevak sa(n)g tum prabh raate ot pot bhagatan sa(n)g joree ||
You are imbued with Your servant, God; Your devotees are woven into Your Fabric, through and through.
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਚਾਹੈ ਜੈਸੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਓਹ ਚੰਦ ਚਕੋਰੀ ॥੨॥
priau priau naam teraa dharasan chaahai jaise dhirasaT oh cha(n)dh chakoree ||2||
O Darling Beloved, they yearn for Your Name and the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, like the chakvee bird which longs to see the moon. ||2||
ਰਾਮ ਸੰਤ ਮਹਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਏਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਕਈ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋਰੀ ॥
raam sa(n)t meh bhedh kichh naahee ek jan kiee meh laakh karoree ||
Between the Lord and His Saint, there is no difference at all. Among hundreds of thousands and millions, there is scarcely one humble being.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਰਸਨ ਰਮੋਰੀ ॥੩॥
jaa kai heeaai pragaT prabh hoaa anadhin keeratan rasan ramoree ||3||
Those whose hearts are illuminated by God, sing the Kirtan of His Praises night and day with their tongues. ||3||
ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਤਿ ਊਚੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧੋਰੀ ॥
tum samarath apaar at uooche sukhadhaate prabh praan adhoree ||
You are All-powerful and Infinite, the most lofty and exalted, the Giver of peace; O God, You are the Support of the breath of life.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਜੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਉਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਗੋਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੧੩੪॥
naanak kau prabh keejai kirapaa un sa(n)tan kai sa(n)g sa(n)goree ||4||13||134||
Please show mercy to Nanak, O God, that he may remain in the Society of the Saints. ||4||13||134||
