ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਕਛੁ ਸੂਝਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਹ ਪੈਖਰ ਪਏ ਪੈਰਾ ॥੨॥
bharam moh kachh soojhas naahee ieh paikhar pe pairaa ||2||
In doubt and emotional attachment, this person understands nothing; with this leash, these feet are tied up. ||2||
ਤਬ ਇਹੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਮਾਵਨ ਪਰਿਆ ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ॥
tab ih kahaa kamaavan pariaa jab ih kachhoo na hotaa ||
What did this person do, when he did not exist?
ਜਬ ਏਕ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪਹਿ ਕਰਤਾ ॥੩॥
jab ek nira(n)jan nira(n)kaar prabh sabh kichh aapeh karataa ||3||
When the Immaculate and Formless Lord God was all alone, He did everything by Himself. ||3||
ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
apane karatab aape jaanai jin ih rachan rachaiaa ||
He alone knows His actions; He created this creation.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੬੩॥
kahu naanak karanahaar hai aape satigur bharam chukaiaa ||4||5||163||
Says Nanak, the Lord Himself is the Doer. The True Guru has dispelled my doubts. ||4||5||163||
ਗਉੜੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
gauRee maalaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Gauree Maalaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਬਿਰਥੇ ॥
har bin avar kiraa birathe ||
Without the Lord, other actions are useless.
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਇਹਿ ਓਰੈ ਮੂਸੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jap tap sa(n)jam karam kamaane ieh orai moose ||1|| rahaau ||
Meditative chants, intense deep meditation, austere self-discipline and rituals - these are plundered in this world. ||1||Pause||
ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਸੰਜਮ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਤਾ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਆਢੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
barat nem sa(n)jam meh rahataa tin kaa aadd na paiaa ||
Fasting, daily rituals, and austere self-discipline - those who keep the practice of these, are rewarded with less than a shell.
ਆਗੈ ਚਲਣੁ ਅਉਰੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਊਂਹਾ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
aagai chalan aaur hai bhaiee uoo(n)haa kaam na aaiaa ||1||
Hereafter, the way is different, O Siblings of Destiny. There, these things are of no use at all. ||1||
ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇ ਅਰੁ ਧਰਨੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਾ ਆਗੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
teerath nai ar dharanee bhramataa aagai Thaur na paavai ||
Those who bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and wander over the earth, find no place of rest hereafter.
ਊਹਾ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਓਹੁ ਲੋਗਨ ਹੀ ਪਤੀਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
uoohaa kaam na aavai ieh bidh oh logan hee pateeaavai ||2||
There, these are of no use at all. By these things, they only please other people. ||2||
ਚਤੁਰ ਬੇਦ ਮੁਖ ਬਚਨੀ ਉਚਰੈ ਆਗੈ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
chatur bedh mukh bachanee ucharai aagai mahal na paieeaai ||
Reciting the four Vedas from memory, they do not obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence hereafter.
ਬੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਧਾਖਰੁ ਓਹੁ ਸਗਲੀ ਝਾਖ ਝਖਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
boojhai naahee ek sudhaakhar oh sagalee jhaakh jhakhaieeaai ||3||
Those who do not understand the One Pure Word, utter total nonsense. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹਤੋ ਇਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ਜਿ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਪਾਰ ਗਰਾਮੀ ॥
naanak kahato ih beechaaraa j kamaavai su paar garaamee ||
Nanak voices this opinion: those who practice it, swim across.
ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਅਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੬੪॥
gur sevahu ar naam dhiaavahu tiaagahu manahu gumaanee ||4||6||164||
Serve the Guru, and meditate on the Naam; renounce the egotistical pride from your mind. ||4||6||164||
ਗਉੜੀ ਮਾਲਾ ੫ ॥

Gauree Maalaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਮਾਧਉ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
maadhau har har har mukh kaheeaai ||
O Lord, I chant Your Name, Har, Har, Har.
ਹਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham te kachhoo na hovai suaamee jiau raakhahu tiau raheeaai ||1|| rahaau ||
I cannot do anything by myself, O Lord and Master. As You keep me, so I remain. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਆ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਕਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਇਸੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ॥
kiaa kichh karai k karanaihaaraa kiaa is haath bichaare ||
What can the mere mortal do? What is in the hands of this poor creature?
ਜਿਤੁ ਤੁਮ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਖਸਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
jit tum laavahu tit hee laagaa pooran khasam hamaare ||1||
As You attach us, so we are attached, O my Perfect Lord and Master. ||1||
ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਸਰਬ ਕੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਏਕ ਰੂਪ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਹੁ ॥
karahu kirapaa sarab ke dhaate ek roop liv laavahu ||
Take pity on me, O Great Giver of all, that I may enshrine love for Your Form alone.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੬੫॥
naanak kee bena(n)tee har peh apunaa naam japaavahu ||2||7||165||
Nanak offers this prayer to the Lord, that he may chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||7||165||
ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫

Raag Gauree Maajh, Fifth Mehla:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ikOankaar satigur prasaadh ||
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਰਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
dheen dhiaal dhamodhar raiaa jeeau ||
O Merciful to the meek, O Dear Lord King,
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
koT janaa kar sev lagaiaa jeeau ||
You have engaged millions of people in Your Service.
ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਰਖਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
bhagat vachhal teraa biradh rakhaiaa jeeau ||
You are the Lover of Your devotees; this is Your Nature.
ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭਨੀ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
pooran sabhanee jaiee jeeau ||1||
You are totally pervading all places. ||1||
ਕਿਉ ਪੇਖਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਕਵਣ ਸੁਕਰਣੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
kiau pekhaa preetam kavan sukaranee jeeau ||
How can I behold my Beloved? What is that way of life?
ਸੰਤਾ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਰਣੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
sa(n)taa dhaasee sevaa charanee jeeau ||
Become the slave of the Saints, and serve at their feet.
ਇਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਵਤਾਈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥
eih jeeau vataiee bal bal jaiee jeeau ||
I dedicate this soul; I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to them.
ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
tis niv niv laagau paiee jeeau ||2||
Bowing low, I fall at the Feet of the Lord. ||2||
ਪੋਥੀ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬੇਦ ਖੋਜੰਤਾ ਜੀਉ ॥
pothee pa(n)ddit bedh khoja(n)taa jeeau ||
The Pandits, the religious scholars, study the books of the Vedas.
ਹੋਇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵੰਤਾ ਜੀਉ ॥
hoi bairaagee teerath naava(n)taa jeeau ||
Some become renunciates, and bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵੰਤਾ ਜੀਉ ॥
geet naadh keeratan gaava(n)taa jeeau ||
Some sing tunes and melodies and songs.
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
har nirabhau naam dhiaaiee jeeau ||3||
But I meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Fearless Lord. ||3||
ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥
bhe kirapaal suaamee mere jeeau ||
My Lord and Master has become merciful to me.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵਿਤ ਲਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਪੈਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥
patit pavit lag gur ke paire jeeau ||
I was a sinner, and I have been sanctified, taking to the Guru's Feet.
