Shalok:
ਗਨਿ ਮਿਨਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਚਲਨੋ ਲੋਗ ॥
gan min dhekhahu manai maeh sarapar chalano log ||
See, that even by calculating and scheming in their minds, people must surely depart in the end.
ਆਸ ਅਨਿਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਅਰੋਗ ॥੧॥
aas anit gurmukh miTai naanak naam arog ||1||
Hopes and desires for transitory things are erased for the Gurmukh; O Nanak, the Name alone brings true health. ||1||

Pauree:
ਗਗਾ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹੁ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਜਪਿ ਨੀਤ ॥
gagaa gobidh gun ravahu saas saas jap neet ||
GAGGA: Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe with each and every breath; meditate on Him forever.
ਕਹਾ ਬਿਸਾਸਾ ਦੇਹ ਕਾ ਬਿਲਮ ਨ ਕਰਿਹੋ ਮੀਤ ॥
kahaa bisaasaa dheh kaa bilam na kariho meet ||
How can you rely on the body? Do not delay, my friend;
ਨਹ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਨਹ ਜੋਬਨੈ ਨਹ ਬਿਰਧੀ ਕਛੁ ਬੰਧੁ ॥
neh baarik neh jobanai neh biradhee kachh ba(n)dh ||
there is nothing to stand in Death's way - neither in childhood, nor in youth, nor in old age.
ਓਹ ਬੇਰਾ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਜਉ ਆਇ ਪਰੈ ਜਮ ਫੰਧੁ ॥
oh beraa neh boojheeaai jau aai parai jam fa(n)dh ||
That time is not known, when the noose of Death shall come and fall on you.
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਚਤੁਰ ਪੇਖਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਇਹ ਠਾਇ ॥
giaanee dhiaanee chatur pekh rahan nahee ieh Thai ||
See, that even spiritual scholars, those who meditate, and those who are clever shall not stay in this place.
ਛਾਡਿ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਗਈ ਮੂੜ ਤਹਾ ਲਪਟਾਹਿ ॥
chhaadd chhaadd sagalee giee mooR tahaa lapaTaeh ||
Only the fool clings to that, which everyone else has abandoned and left behind.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹੈ ਜਾਹੂ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ॥
gur prasaadh simarat rahai jaahoo masatak bhaag ||
By Guru's Grace, one who has such good destiny written on his forehead remembers the Lord in meditation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਏ ਸਫਲ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਅਹਿ ਸੁਹਾਗ ॥੧੯॥
naanak aae safal te jaa kau prieh suhaag ||19||
O Nanak, blessed and fruitful is the coming of those who obtain the Beloved Lord as their Husband. ||19||

Shalok:
ਘੋਖੇ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਸਭ ਆਨ ਨ ਕਥਤਉ ਕੋਇ ॥
ghokhe saasatr bedh sabh aan na kathatau koi ||
I have searched all the Shaastras and the Vedas, and they say nothing except this:
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਹੁਣਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
aadh jugaadhee hun hovat naanak ekai soi ||1||
"In the beginning, throughout the ages, now and forevermore, O Nanak, the One Lord alone exists."||1||

Pauree:
ਘਘਾ ਘਾਲਹੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਏਹ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
ghaghaa ghaalahu maneh eh bin har dhoosar naeh ||
GHAGHA: Put this into your mind, that there is no one except the Lord.
ਨਹ ਹੋਆ ਨਹ ਹੋਵਨਾ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਓਹੀ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
neh hoaa neh hovanaa jat kat ohee samaeh ||
There never was, and there never shall be. He is pervading everywhere.
ਘੂਲਹਿ ਤਉ ਮਨ ਜਉ ਆਵਹਿ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
ghooleh tau man jau aaveh saranaa ||
You shall be absorbed into Him, O mind, if you come to His Sanctuary.
ਨਾਮ ਤਤੁ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨਾ ॥
naam tat kal meh punahacharanaa ||
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall be of any real use to you.
ਘਾਲਿ ਘਾਲਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ॥
ghaal ghaal anik pachhutaaveh ||
So many work and slave continually, but they come to regret and repent in the end.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਹਾ ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
bin har bhagat kahaa thit paaveh ||
Without devotional worship of the Lord, how can they find stability?
ਘੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਿਹ ਪੀਆ ॥
ghol mahaa ras a(n)mrit teh peeaa ||
They alone taste the supreme essence, and drink in the Ambrosial Nectar,
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ॥੨੦॥
naanak har gur jaa kau dheeaa ||20||
O Nanak, unto whom the Lord, the Guru, gives it. ||20||

ਙਣਿ ਘਾਲੇ ਸਭ ਦਿਵਸ ਸਾਸ ਨਹ ਬਢਨ ਘਟਨ ਤਿਲੁ ਸਾਰ ॥
n(g)n ghaale sabh dhivas saas neh baddan ghaTan til saar ||
He has counted all the days and the breaths, and placed them in people's destiny; they do not increase or decrease one little bit.
ਜੀਵਨ ਲੋਰਹਿ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਊ ਗਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
jeevan loreh bharam moh naanak teuoo gavaar ||1||
Those who long to live in doubt and emotional attachment, O Nanak, are total fools. ||1||

ਙੰਙਾ ਙ੍ਰਾਸੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਹ ਜੋ ਸਾਕਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨ ॥
n(g)(n)n(g)aa n(g)raasai kaal teh jo saakat prabh keen ||
NGANGA: Death seizes those whom God has made into faithless cynics.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ ॥
anik jon janameh mareh aatam raam na cheen ||
They are born and they die, enduring countless incarnations; they do not realize the Lord, the Supreme Soul.
ਙਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਤਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਆਏ ॥
n(g)iaan dhiaan taahoo kau aae ||
They alone find spiritual wisdom and meditation,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਹ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਏ ॥
kar kirapaa jeh aap dhivaae ||
whom the Lord blesses with His Mercy;
ਙਣਤੀ ਙਣੀ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਛੂਟੈ ॥
n(g)natee n(g)nee nahee kouoo chhooTai ||
no one is emancipated by counting and calculating.
ਕਾਚੀ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਫੂਟੈ ॥
kaachee gaagar sarapar fooTai ||
The vessel of clay shall surely break.
ਸੋ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਿਹ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਪਿਆ ॥
so jeevat jeh jeevat japiaa ||
They alone live, who, while alive, meditate on the Lord.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹ ਛਪਿਆ ॥੨੧॥
pragaT bhe naanak neh chhapiaa ||21||
They are respected, O Nanak, and do not remain hidden. ||21||

ਚਿਤਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਚਰਣਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਊਧ ਕਵਲ ਬਿਗਸਾਂਤ ॥
chit chitavau charanaarabi(n)dh uoodh kaval bigasaa(n)t ||
Focus your consciousness on His Lotus Feet, and the inverted lotus of your heart shall blossom forth.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਆਪਹਿ ਗੋੁਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਮਤਾਂਤ ॥੧॥
pragaT bhe aapeh guobi(n)dh naanak sa(n)t mataa(n)t ||1||
The Lord of the Universe Himself becomes manifest, O Nanak, through the Teachings of the Saints. ||1||

ਚਚਾ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ ਧਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਉਆ ਦਿਨ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥
chachaa charan kamal gur laagaa || dhan dhan uaa dhin sa(n)jog sabhaagaa ||
CHACHA: Blessed, blessed is that day, when I became attached to the Lord's Lotus Feet.
ਚਾਰਿ ਕੁੰਟ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਇਓ ॥
chaar ku(n)T dheh dhis bhram aaio ||
After wandering around in the four quarters and the ten directions,
ਭਈ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤਬ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
bhiee kirapaa tab dharasan paio ||
God showed His Mercy to me, and then I obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਚਾਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਸਭ ਦੂਆ ॥
chaar bichaar binasio sabh dhooaa ||
By pure lifestyle and meditation, all duality is removed.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੂਆ ॥
saadhasa(n)g man niramal hooaa ||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mind becomes immaculate.
ਚਿੰਤ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੇਤਾ ॥
chi(n)t bisaaree ek dhirasaTetaa ||
Anxieties are forgotten, and the One Lord alone is seen,
ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਜਿਹ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾ ॥੨੨॥
naanak giaan a(n)jan jeh netraa ||22||
O Nanak, by those whose eyes are anointed with the ointment of spiritual wisdom. ||22||

ਛਾਤੀ ਸੀਤਲ ਮਨੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਛੰਤ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥
chhaatee seetal man sukhee chha(n)t gobidh gun gai ||
The heart is cooled and soothed, and the mind is at peace, chanting and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਐਸੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਇ ॥੧॥
aaisee kirapaa karahu prabh naanak dhaas dhasai ||1||
Show such Mercy, O God, that Nanak may become the slave of Your slaves. ||1||

ਛਛਾ ਛੋਹਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
chhachhaa chhohare dhaas tumaare ||
CHHACHHA: I am Your child-slave.
ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰੇ ॥
dhaas dhaasan ke paaneehaare ||
I am the water-carrier of the slave of Your slaves.
ਛਛਾ ਛਾਰੁ ਹੋਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾ ॥
chhachhaa chhaar hot tere sa(n)taa ||
Chhachha: I long to become the dust under the feet of Your Saints.
