ਅਪਨੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥
apanee kirapaa karahu bhagava(n)taa ||
Please shower me with Your Mercy, O Lord God!
ਛਾਡਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
chhaadd siaanap bahu chaturaiee ||
I have given up my excessive cleverness and scheming,
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥
sa(n)tan kee man Tek Tikaiee ||
and I have taken the support of the Saints as my mind's support.
ਛਾਰੁ ਕੀ ਪੁਤਰੀ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
chhaar kee putaree param gat paiee ||
Even a puppet of ashes attains the supreme status,
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੨੩॥
naanak jaa kau sa(n)t sahaiee ||23||
O Nanak, if it has the help and support of the Saints. ||23||

Shalok:
ਜੋਰ ਜੁਲਮ ਫੂਲਹਿ ਘਨੋ ਕਾਚੀ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
jor julam fooleh ghano kaachee dheh bikaar ||
Practicing oppression and tyranny, he puffs himself up; he acts in corruption with his frail, perishable body.
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਪਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਛੁਟਾਰ ॥੧॥
aha(n)budh ba(n)dhan pare naanak naam chhuTaar ||1||
He is bound by his egotistical intellect; O Nanak, salvation comes only through the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

Pauree:
ਜਜਾ ਜਾਨੈ ਹਉ ਕਛੁ ਹੂਆ ॥
jajaa jaanai hau kachh hooaa ||
JAJJA: When someone, in his ego, believes that he has become something,
ਬਾਧਿਓ ਜਿਉ ਨਲਿਨੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਸੂਆ ॥
baadhio jiau nalinee bhram sooaa ||
he is caught in his error, like a parrot in a trap.
ਜਉ ਜਾਨੈ ਹਉ ਭਗਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥
jau jaanai hau bhagat giaanee ||
When he believes, in his ego, that he is a devotee and a spiritual teacher,
ਆਗੈ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨੀ ॥
aagai Thaakur til nahee maanee ||
then, in the world hereafter, the Lord of the Universe shall have no regard for him at all.
ਜਉ ਜਾਨੈ ਮੈ ਕਥਨੀ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
jau jaanai mai kathanee karataa ||
When he believes himself to be a preacher,
ਬਿਆਪਾਰੀ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਜਿਉ ਫਿਰਤਾ ॥
biaapaaree basudhaa jiau firataa ||
he is merely a peddler wandering over the earth.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਿਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
saadhasa(n)g jeh haumai maaree ||
But one who conquers his ego in the Company of the Holy,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੇ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੨੪॥
naanak taa kau mile muraaree ||24||
O Nanak, meets the Lord. ||24||

ਝਾਲਾਘੇ ਉਠਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਆਰਾਧਿ ॥
jhaalaaghe uTh naam jap nis baasur aaraadh ||
Rise early in the morning, and chant the Naam; worship and adore the Lord, night and day.
ਕਾਰ੍ਹਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਨ ਬਿਆਪਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਟੈ ਉਪਾਧਿ ॥੧॥
kaarhaa tujhai na biaapiee naanak miTai upaadh ||1||
Anxiety shall not afflict you, O Nanak, and your misfortune shall vanish. ||1||

ਝਝਾ ਝੂਰਨੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਤੁਮਾਰੋ ॥
jhajhaa jhooran miTai tumaaro ||
JHAJHA: Your sorrows shall depart,
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੋ ॥
raam naam siau kar biauhaaro ||
when you deal with the Lord's Name.
ਝੂਰਤ ਝੂਰਤ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂਆ ॥
jhoorat jhoorat saakat mooaa ||
The faithless cynic dies in sorrow and pain;
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਹੋਤ ਭਾਉ ਬੀਆ ॥
jaa kai ridhai hot bhaau beeaa ||
his heart is filled with the love of duality.
ਝਰਹਿ ਕਸੰਮਲ ਪਾਪ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨੂਆ ॥
jhareh kasa(n)mal paap tere manooaa ||
Your evil deeds and sins shall fall away, O my mind,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਥਾ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਨੂਆ ॥
a(n)mirat kathaa sa(n)tasa(n)g sunooaa ||
listening to the ambrosial speech in the Society of the Saints.
ਝਰਹਿ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦ੍ਰੁਸਟਾਈ ॥
jhareh kaam karodh dhrusaTaiee ||
Sexual desire, anger and wickedness fall away,
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥੨੫॥
naanak jaa kau kirapaa gusaiee ||25||
O Nanak, from those who are blessed by the Mercy of the Lord of the World. ||25||

ਞਤਨ ਕਰਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਮੀਤ ॥
n(j)tan karahu tum anik bidh rahan na paavahu meet ||
You can try all sorts of things, but you still cannot remain here, my friend.
ਜੀਵਤ ਰਹਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥
jeevat rahahu har har bhajahu naanak naam pareet ||1||
But you shall live forevermore, O Nanak, if you vibrate and love the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||

ਞੰਞਾ ਞਾਣਹੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਸਹੀ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਤ ਏਹ ਹੇਤ ॥
n(j)(n)n(j)aa n(j)aanahu dhiraR sahee binas jaat eh het ||
NYANYA: Know this as absolutely correct, that that this ordinary love shall come to an end.
ਗਣਤੀ ਗਣਉ ਨ ਗਣਿ ਸਕਉ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ਕੇਤ ॥
ganatee ganau na gan sakau uooTh sidhaare ket ||
You may count and calculate as much as you want, but you cannot count how many have arisen and departed.
ਞੋ ਪੇਖਉ ਸੋ ਬਿਨਸਤਉ ਕਾ ਸਿਉ ਕਰੀਐ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
n(j)o pekhau so binasatau kaa siau kareeaai sa(n)g ||
Whoever I see shall perish. With whom should I associate?
ਞਾਣਹੁ ਇਆ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਝੂਠਉ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
n(j)aanahu iaa bidh sahee chit jhooThau maiaa ra(n)g ||
Know this as true in your consciousness, that the love of Maya is false.
ਞਾਣਤ ਸੋਈ ਸੰਤੁ ਸੁਇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਤੇ ਕੀਚਿਤ ਭਿੰਨ ॥
n(j)aanat soiee sa(n)t sui bhram te keechit bhi(n)n ||
He alone knows, and he alone is a Saint, who is free of doubt.
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਤਿਹ ਕਢਹੁ ਜਿਹ ਹੋਵਹੁ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥
a(n)dh koop te teh kaddahu jeh hovahu suprasa(n)n ||
He is lifted up and out of the deep dark pit; the Lord is totally pleased with him.
ਞਾ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਸਮਰਥ ਤੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਨੈ ਜੋਗ ॥
n(j)aa kai haath samarath te kaaran karanai jog ||
God's Hand is All-powerful; He is the Creator, the Cause of causes.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਞਾਹੂ ਕੀਓ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥੨੬॥
naanak teh usatat karau n(j)aahoo keeo sa(n)jog ||26||
O Nanak, praise the One, who joins us to Himself. ||26||

ਟੂਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਸਾਧ ਸੇਵ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
TooTe ba(n)dhan janam maran saadh sev sukh pai ||
The bondage of birth and death is broken and peace is obtained, by serving the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਬੀਸਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak manahu na beesarai gun nidh gobidh rai ||1||
O Nanak, may I never forget from my mind, the Treasure of Virtue, the Sovereign Lord of the Universe. ||1||

ਟਹਲ ਕਰਹੁ ਤਉ ਏਕ ਕੀ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
Tahal karahu tau ek kee jaa te birathaa na koi ||
Work for the One Lord; no one returns empty-handed from Him.
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਹੀਐ ਬਸੈ ਜੋ ਚਾਹਹੁ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥
man tan mukh heeaai basai jo chaahahu so hoi ||
When the Lord abides within your mind, body, mouth and heart, then whatever you desire shall come to pass.
ਟਹਲ ਮਹਲ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸਾਧ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
Tahal mahal taa kau milai jaa kau saadh kirapaal ||
He alone obtains the Lord's service, and the Mansion of His Presence, unto whom the Holy Saint is compassionate.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤਉ ਬਸੈ ਜਉ ਆਪਨ ਹੋਹਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
saadhoo sa(n)gat tau basai jau aapan hoh dhiaal ||
He joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, only when the Lord Himself shows His Mercy.
ਟੋਹੇ ਟਾਹੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਵਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Tohe Taahe bahu bhavan bin naavai sukh naeh ||
I have searched and searched, across so many worlds, but without the Name, there is no peace.
ਟਲਹਿ ਜਾਮ ਕੇ ਦੂਤ ਤਿਹ ਜੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
Taleh jaam ke dhoot teh ju saadhoo sa(n)g samaeh ||
The Messenger of Death retreats from those who dwell in the Saadh Sangat.
ਬਾਰਿ ਬਾਰਿ ਜਾਉ ਸੰਤ ਸਦਕੇ ॥
baar baar jaau sa(n)t sadhake ||
Again and again, I am forever devoted to the Saints.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਕਦਿ ਕੇ ॥੨੭॥
naanak paap binaase kadh ke ||27||
O Nanak, my sins from so long ago have been erased. ||27||

ਠਾਕ ਨ ਹੋਤੀ ਤਿਨਹੁ ਦਰਿ ਜਿਹ ਹੋਵਹੁ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥
Thaak na hotee tinahu dhar jeh hovahu suprasa(n)n ||
Those beings, with whom the Lord is thoroughly pleased, meet with no obstacles at His Door.
ਜੋ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਧਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ॥੧॥
jo jan prabh apune kare naanak te dhan dha(n)n ||1||
Those humble beings whom God has made His own, O Nanak, are blessed, so very blessed. ||1||
