ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
jis no kirapaa karai tis aapan naam dhei ||
He Himself gives His Name to those, upon whom He bestows His Mercy.
ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਸੇਇ ॥੮॥੧੩॥
baddabhaagee naanak jan sei ||8||13||
Very fortunate, O Nanak, are those people. ||8||13||

ਤਜਹੁ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸੁਰਿ ਜਨਹੁ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
tajahu siaanap sur janahu simarahu har har rai ||
Give up your cleverness, good people - remember the Lord God, your King!
ਏਕ ਆਸ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਰਖਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਖੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
ek aas har man rakhahu naanak dhookh bharam bhau jai ||1||
Enshrine in your heart, your hopes in the One Lord. O Nanak, your pain, doubt and fear shall depart. ||1||

ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਬ੍ਰਿਥੀ ਸਭ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
maanukh kee Tek birathee sabh jaan ||
Reliance on mortals is in vain - know this well.
ਦੇਵਨ ਕਉ ਏਕੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥
dhevan kau ekai bhagavaan ||
The Great Giver is the One Lord God.
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਦੀਐ ਰਹੈ ਅਘਾਇ ॥
jis kai dheeaai rahai aghai ||
By His gifts, we are satisfied,
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥
bahur na tirasanaa laagai aai ||
and we suffer from thirst no longer.
ਮਾਰੈ ਰਾਖੈ ਏਕੋ ਆਪਿ ॥
maarai raakhai eko aap ||
The One Lord Himself destroys and also preserves.
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
maanukh kai kichh naahee haath ||
Nothing at all is in the hands of mortal beings.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
tis kaa hukam boojh sukh hoi ||
Understanding His Order, there is peace.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਰੋਇ ॥
tis kaa naam rakh ka(n)Th paroi ||
So take His Name, and wear it as your necklace.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
simar simar simar prabh soi ||
Remember, remember, remember God in meditation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak bighan na laagai koi ||1||
O Nanak, no obstacle shall stand in your way. ||1||
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥
ausatat man meh kar nira(n)kaar ||
Praise the Formless Lord in your mind.
ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥
kar man mere sat biauhaar ||
O my mind, make this your true occupation.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰਸਨਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਉ ॥
niramal rasanaa a(n)mrit peeau ||
Let your tongue become pure, drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਲੇਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
sadhaa suhelaa kar leh jeeau ||
Your soul shall be forever peaceful.
ਨੈਨਹੁ ਪੇਖੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
nainahu pekh Thaakur kaa ra(n)g ||
With your eyes, see the wondrous play of your Lord and Master.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਭ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
saadhasa(n)g binasai sabh sa(n)g ||
In the Company of the Holy, all other associations vanish.
ਚਰਨ ਚਲਉ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
charan chalau maarag gobi(n)dh ||
With your feet, walk in the Way of the Lord.
ਮਿਟਹਿ ਪਾਪ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਬਿੰਦ ॥
miTeh paap japeeaai har bi(n)dh ||
Sins are washed away, chanting the Lord's Name, even for a moment.
ਕਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ॥
kar har karam sravan har kathaa ||
So do the Lord's Work, and listen to the Lord's Sermon.
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਊਜਲ ਮਥਾ ॥੨॥
har dharageh naanak uoojal mathaa ||2||
In the Lord's Court, O Nanak, your face shall be radiant. ||2||
ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਜਗ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
baddabhaagee te jan jag maeh ||
Very fortunate are those humble beings in this world,
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਹਿ ॥
sadhaa sadhaa har ke gun gaeh ||
who sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, forever and ever.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜੋ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
raam naam jo kareh beechaar ||
Those who dwell upon the Lord's Name,
ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਗਨੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
se dhanava(n)t ganee sa(n)saar ||
are the most wealthy and prosperous in the world.
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਖੀ ॥
man tan mukh boleh har mukhee ||
Those who speak of the Supreme Lord in thought, word and deed
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੀ ॥
sadhaa sadhaa jaanahu te sukhee ||
know that they are peaceful and happy, forever and ever.
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
eko ek ek pachhaanai ||
One who recognizes the One and only Lord as One,
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਕੀ ਓਹੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
eit ut kee oh sojhee jaanai ||
understands this world and the next.
ਨਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
naam sa(n)g jis kaa man maaniaa ||
One whose mind accepts the Company of the Naam,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥੩॥
naanak tineh nira(n)jan jaaniaa ||3||
the Name of the Lord, O Nanak, knows the Immaculate Lord. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਆਪਨ ਆਪੁ ਸੁਝੈ ॥
gur prasaadh aapan aap sujhai ||
By Guru's Grace, one understands himself;
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ॥
tis kee jaanahu tirasanaa bujhai ||
know that then, his thirst is quenched.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਹਤ ॥
saadhasa(n)g har har jas kahat ||
In the Company of the Holy, one chants the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਸਰਬ ਰੋਗ ਤੇ ਓਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਰਹਤ ॥
sarab rog te oh har jan rahat ||
Such a devotee of the Lord is free of all disease.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕੇਵਲ ਬਖੵਾਨੁ ॥
anadhin keeratan keval bakhayeaan ||
Night and day, sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the One Lord.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੁ ॥
girahasat meh soiee nirabaan ||
In the midst of your household, remain balanced and unattached.
ਏਕ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ॥
ek uoopar jis jan kee aasaa ||
One who places his hopes in the One Lord
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
tis kee kaTeeaai jam kee faasaa ||
the noose of Death is cut away from his neck.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਭੂਖ ॥
paarabraham kee jis man bhookh ||
One whose mind hungers for the Supreme Lord God,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਲਾਗਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥੪॥
naanak tiseh na laageh dhookh ||4||
O Nanak, shall not suffer pain. ||4||
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
jis kau har prabh man chit aavai ||
One who focuses his conscious mind on the Lord God
ਸੋ ਸੰਤੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਨਹੀ ਡੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
so sa(n)t suhelaa nahee ddulaavai ||
- that Saint is at peace; he does not waver.
ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
jis prabh apunaa kirapaa karai ||
Those unto whom God has granted His Grace
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਸ ਤੇ ਡਰੈ ॥
so sevak kahu kis te ddarai ||
who do those servants need to fear?
ਜੈਸਾ ਸਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ॥
jaisaa saa taisaa dhirasaTaiaa ||
As God is, so does He appear;
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
apune kaaraj meh aap samaiaa ||
in His Own creation, He Himself is pervading.
ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੀਝਿਆ ॥
sodhat sodhat sodhat seejhiaa ||
Searching, searching, searching, and finally, success!
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਬੂਝਿਆ ॥
gur prasaadh tat sabh boojhiaa ||
By Guru's Grace, the essence of all reality is understood.
ਜਬ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਬ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਮੂਲੁ ॥
jab dhekhau tab sabh kichh mool ||
Wherever I look, there I see Him, at the root of all things.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸੂਖਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਅਸਥੂਲੁ ॥੫॥
naanak so sookham soiee asathool ||5||
O Nanak, He is the subtle, and He is also the manifest. ||5||
ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਨਮੈ ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਰੈ ॥
neh kichh janamai neh kichh marai ||
Nothing is born, and nothing dies.
ਆਪਨ ਚਲਿਤੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰੈ ॥
aapan chalit aap hee karai ||
He Himself stages His own drama.
ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਵਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਅਨਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ॥
aavan jaavan dhirasaT anadhirasaT ||
Coming and going, seen and unseen,
ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ॥
aagiaakaaree dhaaree sabh sirasaT ||
all the world is obedient to His Will.
