keh kabeer gur bheT mahaa sukh bhramat rahe man maanaanaa(n) ||4||23||74||

Says Kabeer, meeting the Guru, I have found absolute peace. My mind has ceased its wanderings; I am happy. ||4||23||74||

raag gauRee poorabee baavan akharee kabeer jeeau kee

Raag Gauree Poorbee, Baawan Akhree Of Kabeer Jee:

ikOankaar satinaam karataa purakh guraprasaadh ||

One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. By Guru's Grace:

baavan achhar lok trai sabh kachh in hee maeh ||

Through these fifty-two letters, the three worlds and all things are described.

e akhar khir jaahige oi akhar in meh naeh ||1||

These letters shall perish; they cannot describe the Imperishable Lord. ||1||

jahaa bol teh achhar aavaa ||

Wherever description is possible, only there the letters get used.

jeh abol teh man na rahaavaa ||

Where the state is beyond description, there, the mind itself ceases to be a descriptor.

bol abol madh hai soiee ||

He is in both speech and silence.

jas oh hai tas lakhai na koiee ||2||

No one can know or describe Him as He is. ||2||

aleh lahau tau kiaa kahau kahau ta ko upakaar ||

If I come to know the Lord, what can I say; what good does it do to speak?

baTak beej meh rav rahio jaa ko teen lok bisathaar ||3||

His expanse spreads across the three worlds and He is contained within it just like the banyan tree is contained within its seed (and the seed is contained within the banyan tree). ||3||

aleh laha(n)taa bhedh chhai kachh kachh paio bhedh ||

One who tries to know the Unknowable Lord, his dilemma gets resolved, and bit by bit, the mystery disappears.

aulaT bhedh man bedhio paio abha(n)g achhedh ||4||

Turning away from the world, one's mind is pierced through with this mystery, and one obtains the Indestructible, Impenetrable Lord. ||4||

turak tareekat jaaneeaai hi(n)dhoo bedh puraan ||

The devout Muslim seeks guidance from the Tariqat ( Sufi scripture) ; the devout Hindu from the Vedas and Puraanas.

man samajhaavan kaarane kachhooak paReeaai giaan ||5||

To instruct their minds, people ought to study some sort of spiritual wisdom. ||5||

oa(n)kaar aadh mai jaanaa ||

I know only the One, the Universal Creator, the Primal Being.

likh ar meTai taeh na maanaa ||

I do not believe in anyone whom the Lord writes (into being) and erases.

oa(n)kaar lakhai jau koiee ||

If someone knows the One, the Universal Creator,

soiee lakh meTanaa na hoiee ||6||

Knowing Him, (his elevated state) shall not perish. ||6||

kakaa kiran kamal meh paavaa ||

KAKKA: When the rays of Divine Light come into the heart-lotus,

sas bigaas sa(n)paT nahee aavaa ||

the moon-light of Maya cannot close the blossomed heart lotus again.

ar je tahaa kusam ras paavaa ||

And if one obtains the subtle fragrance of that spiritual flower,

akeh kahaa keh kaa samajhaavaa ||7||

I cannot describe the indescribable; I could speak, but what can I explain/describe? ||7||

khakhaa ihai khoR man aavaa ||

KHAKHA: When this mind (-bird that has received a ray of the divine light) has entered the tree hollow ( refuge of the Lord)

khoRe chhaadd na dheh dhis dhaavaa ||

It does not leave this tree hollow to wander in the ten directions.

khasameh jaan khimaa kar rahai ||

Then it (the mind bird) comes to know the source of compassion, the Lord and stays.

tau hoi nikhiaau akhai padh lahai ||8||

then, it becomes (one with) the immortal Lord, and attains the state of eternal dignity. ||8||

gagaa gur ke bachan pachhaanaa ||

GAGGA: One who understands the Guru's Word

dhoojee baat na dhariee kaanaa ||

does not listen to anything else.

rahai biha(n)gam kateh na jaiee ||

He remains unattached like a bird and does not go anywhere,

ageh gahai geh gagan rahaiee ||9||

when he grasps the Ungraspable Lord and dwells in the sky of the Tenth Gate. ||9||

ghaghaa ghaT ghaT nimasai soiee ||

GHAGHA: He dwells in each and every body.

ghaT fooTe ghaT kabeh na hoiee ||

Even when a body-pitcher bursts, the existence of the Lord does not diminish.

taa ghaT maeh ghaaT jau paavaa ||

When someone finds the landing/port ( to cross the world-sea) within his own heart,

so ghaT chhaadd avaghaT kat dhaavaa ||10||

why should he abandon that landing/port to wander around? ||10||

n(g)(n)n(g)aa nigreh saneh kar niravaaro sa(n)dheh ||

NGANGA: Restrain yourself, love the Lord, and dismiss your doubts.

naahee dhekh na bhaajeeaai param siaanap eh ||11||

(This task is hard, but) do not run away because the task seems hard and not attainable; this is the highest wisdom. ||11||

chachaa rachit chitr hai bhaaree ||

CHACHA: He created this world as if its a great painting.

taj chitrai chetahu chitakaaree ||

Let go of this painting, and remember the Painter.

chitr bachitr ihai avajheraa ||

The hassle is that this painting is so wondrous.

taj chitrai chit raakh chiteraa ||12||

( To save yourself from this attachment) leave (contemplation of) the painting and focus your consciousness on the Painter. ||12||

chhachhaa ihai chhatrapat paasaa ||

CHHACHHA: The Sovereign Lord of the Universe is here with you.

chhak k na rahahu chhaadd k na aasaa ||

Why are you so unhappy? Why don't you abandon your desires?

re man mai tau chhin chhin samajhaavaa ||

O my mind, each and every moment I try to instruct you,

taeh chhaadd kat aap badhaavaa ||13||

but you forsake Him, and entangle yourself with others. ||13||

jajaa jau tan jeevat jaraavai ||

JAJJA: If someone burns his body while he is still alive,

joban jaar jugat so paavai ||

and burns away the desires of his youth, then he finds the right way.

as jar par jar jar jab rahai ||

When he burns his desire for his own wealth, and that of others,

tab jai jot ujaarau lahai ||14||

then he finds the Divine Light. ||14||
