ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥

tan man arape satigur saranaiee ||

He dedicates his mind and body to the True Guru, and seeks His Sanctuary.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

hiradhai naam vaddee vaddiaaiee ||

His greatest greatness is that the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is in his heart.

ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੧॥

sadhaa preetam prabh hoi sakhaiee ||1||

The Beloved Lord God is his constant companion. ||1||

ਸੋ ਲਾਲਾ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ॥

so laalaa jeevat marai ||

He alone is the Lord's slave, who remains dead while yet alive.

ਸੋਗੁ ਹਰਖੁ ਦੁਇ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਉਧਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

sog harakh dhui sam kar jaanai gur parasaadhee sabadh udharai ||1|| rahaau ||

He looks upon pleasure and pain alike; by Guru's Grace, he is saved through the Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause||

ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਧੁਰਹੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ॥

karanee kaar dhurahu furamaiee ||

He does his deeds according to the Lord's Primal Command.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕੋ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

bin sabadhai ko thai na paiee ||

Without the Shabad, no one is approved.

ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਈ ॥

karanee keerat naam vasaiee ||

Singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, the Naam abides within the mind.

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਢਿਲ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥

aape dhevai ddil na paiee ||2||

He Himself gives His gifts, without hesitation. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

manmukh bharam bhulai sa(n)saar ||

The self-willed manmukh wanders around the world in doubt.

ਬਿਨੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਕੂੜਾ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥

bin raasee kooRaa kare vaapaar ||

Without any capital, he makes false transactions.

ਵਿਣੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਵਖਰੁ ਪਲੈ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

vin raasee vakhar palai na pai ||

Without any capital, he does not obtain any merchandise.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੁਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੩॥

manmukh bhulaa janam gavai ||3||

The mistaken manmukh wastes away his life. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁ ਲਾਲਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

satigur seve su laalaa hoi ||

One who serves the True Guru is the Lord's slave.

ਊਤਮ ਜਾਤੀ ਊਤਮੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

uootam jaatee uootam soi ||

His social status is exalted, and his reputation is exalted.

ਗੁਰ ਪਉੜੀ ਸਭ ਦੂ ਊਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

gur pauRee sabh dhoo uoochaa hoi ||

Climbing the Guru's Ladder, he becomes the most exalted of all.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੭॥੪੬॥

naanak naam vaddaiee hoi ||4||7||46||

O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, greatness is obtained. ||4||7||46||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

aasaa mahalaa teejaa ||

Aasaa, Third Mehla:

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਝੂਠੋ ਝੂਠੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

manmukh jhooTho jhooTh kamaavai ||

The self-willed manmukh practices falsehood, only falsehood.

ਖਸਮੈ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

khasamai kaa mahal kadhe na paavai ||

He never attains the Mansion of the Lord Presence.

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਵੈ ॥

dhoojai lagee bharam bhulaavai ||

Attached to duality, he wanders, deluded by doubt.

ਮਮਤਾ ਬਾਧਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

mamataa baadhaa aavai jaavai ||1||

Entangled in worldly attachments, he comes and goes. ||1||

ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਕਾ ਮਨ ਦੇਖੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥

dhohaaganee kaa man dhekh seegaar ||

Behold, the decorations of the discarded bride!

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤਿ ਧਨਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ਝੂਠੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾੳ ॥

putr kalat dhan maiaa chit laae jhooTh moh paakha(n)dd vikaar ||1|| rahaau ||

Her consciousness is attached to children, spouse, wealth, and Maya, falsehood, emotional attachment, hypocrisy and corruption. ||1||Pause||

ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

sadhaa sohaagan jo prabh bhaavai ||

She who is pleasing to God is forever a happy soul-bride.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਵੈ ॥

gur sabadhee seegaar banaavai ||

She makes the Word of the Guru's Shabad her decoration.

ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਵੈ ॥

sej sukhaalee anadhin har raavai ||

Her bed is so comfortable; she enjoys her Lord, night and day.

ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

mil preetam sadhaa sukh paavai ||2||

Meeting her Beloved, the obtains eternal peace. ||2||

ਸਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

saa sohaagan saachee jis saach piaar ||

She is a true, virtuous soul-bride, who enshrines love for the True Lord.

ਅਪਣਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਸਦਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

apanaa pir raakhai sadhaa ur dhaar ||

She keeps her Husband Lord always clasped to her heart.

ਨੇੜੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥

neRai vekhai sadhaa hadhoor ||

She sees Him near at hand, ever-present.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਰਬ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੩॥

meraa prabh sarab rahiaa bharapoor ||3||

My God is all-pervading everywhere. ||3||

ਆਗੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

aagai jaat roop na jai ||

Social status and beauty will not go with you hereafter.

ਤੇਹਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

tehaa hovai jehe karam kamai ||

As are the deeds done here, so does one become.

ਸਬਦੇ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

sabadhe uoocho uoochaa hoi ||

Through the Word of the Shabad, one becomes the highest of the high.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੮॥੪੭॥

naanak saach samaavai soi ||4||8||47||

O Nanak, he is absorbed in the True Lord. ||4||8||47||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

aasaa mahalaa teejaa ||

Aasaa, Third Mehla:

ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤਾ ਜਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

bhagat rataa jan sahaj subhai ||

The Lord's humble servant is imbued with devotional love, effortlessly and spontaneously.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

gur kai bhai saachai saach samai ||

Through awe and fear of the Guru, he is truly absorbed in the True One.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

bin gur poore bhagat na hoi ||

Without the Perfect Guru, devotional love is not obtained.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਰੁੰਨੇ ਅਪਨੀ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥੧॥

manmukh ru(n)ne apanee pat khoi ||1||

The self-willed manmukhs lose their honor, and cry out in pain. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

mere man har jap sadhaa dhiaai ||

O my mind, chant the Lord's Name, and meditate on Him forever.

ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

sadhaa ana(n)dh hovai dhin raatee jo ichhai soiee fal pai ||1|| rahaau ||

You shall always be in ecstasy, day and night, and you shall obtain the fruits of your desires. ||1||Pause||

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਏ ॥

gur poore te pooraa paae ||

Through the Perfect Guru, the Perfect Lord is obtained,

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

hiradhai sabadh sach naam vasaae ||

and the Shabad, the True Name, is enshrined in the mind.

ਅੰਤਰੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਏ ॥

a(n)tar niramal a(n)mirat sar naae ||

One who bathes in the Pool of Ambrosial Nectar becomes immaculately pure within.

ਸਦਾ ਸੂਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੨॥

sadhaa sooche saach samaae ||2||

He becomes forever sanctified, and is absorbed in the True Lord. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥

har prabh vekhai sadhaa hajoor ||

He sees the Lord God ever-present.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

gur parasaadh rahiaa bharapoor ||

By Guru's Grace, he sees the Lord permeating and pervading everywhere.

ਜਹਾ ਜਾਉ ਤਹ ਵੇਖਾ ਸੋਇ ॥

jahaa jaau teh vekhaa soi ||

Wherever I go, there I see Him.

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥

gur bin dhaataa avar na koi ||3||

Without the Guru, there is no other Giver. ||3||

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥

gur saagar pooraa bha(n)ddaar ||

The Guru is the ocean, the perfect treasure,

ਊਤਮ ਰਤਨ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

uootam ratan javaahar apaar ||

the most precious jewel and priceless ruby.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

gur parasaadhee dhevanahaar ||

By Guru's Grace, the Great Giver blesses us;

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੯॥੪੮॥

naanak bakhase bakhasanahaar ||4||9||48||

O Nanak, the Forgiving Lord forgives us. ||4||9||48||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Aasaa, Third Mehla:

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਇਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

gur sair satigur sach soi ||

The Guru is the Ocean; the True Guru is the Embodiment of Truth.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

poorai bhaag gur sevaa hoi ||

Through perfect good destiny, one serves the Guru.
