ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
so boojhai jis aap bujhaae ||
He alone understands, whom the Lord Himself inspires to understand.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੧॥
gur parasaadhee sev karaae ||1||
By Guru's Grace, one serves Him. ||1||
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
giaan ratan sabh sojhee hoi ||
With the jewel of spiritual wisdom, total understanding is obtained.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parasaadh agiaan binaasai anadhin jaagai vekhai sach soi ||1|| rahaau ||
By Guru's Grace, ignorance is dispelled; one then remains wakeful, night and day, and beholds the True Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
moh gumaan gur sabadh jalaae ||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, attachment and pride are burnt away.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
poore gur te sojhee paae ||
From the Perfect Guru, true understanding is obtained.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
a(n)tar mahal gur sabadh pachhaanai ||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one realizes the Lord's Presence within.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹੈ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥੨॥
aavan jaan rahai thir naam samaane ||2||
Then, one's coming and going cease, and one becomes stable, absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
ja(n)man maranaa hai sa(n)saar ||
The world is tied to birth and death.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
manmukh achet maiaa moh gubaar ||
The unconscious, self-willed manmukh is enveloped in the darkness of Maya and emotional attachment.
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਬਹੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
par ni(n)dhaa bahu kooR kamaavai ||
He slanders others, and practices utter falsehood.
ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
visaTaa kaa keeRaa visaTaa maeh samaavai ||3||
He is a maggot in manure, and into manure he is absorbed. ||3||
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
satasa(n)gat mil sabh sojhee paae ||
Joining the True Congregation, the Sat Sangat, total understanding is obtained.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
gur kaa sabadh har bhagat dhiraRaae ||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, devotional love for the Lord is implanted.
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhaanaa ma(n)ne sadhaa sukh hoi ||
One who surrenders to the Lord's Will is peaceful forever.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੯॥
naanak sach samaavai soi ||4||10||49||
O Nanak, he is absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||10||49||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਪੰਚਪਦੇ ॥
aasaa mahalaa teejaa pa(n)chapadhe ||
Aasaa, Third Mehla, Panch-Padhay:
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
sabadh marai tis sadhaa ana(n)dh ||
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad, finds eternal bliss.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
satigur bheTe gur gobi(n)dh ||
He is united with the True Guru, the Guru, the Lord God.
ਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
naa fir marai na aavai jai ||
He does not die any more, and he does not come or go.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
poore gur te saach samai ||1||
Through the Perfect Guru, he merges with the True Lord. ||1||
ਜਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
jin(h) kau naam likhiaa dhur lekh ||
One who has the Naam, the Name of the Lord, written in his pre-ordained destiny,
ਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਸੇਖੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
te anadhin naam sadhaa dhiaaveh gur poore te bhagat visekh ||1|| rahaau ||
night and day, meditates forever on the Naam; he obtains the wondrous blessing of devotional love from the Perfect Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
jin(h) kau har prabh le milai ||
Those, whom the Lord God has blended with Himself
ਤਿਨੑ ਕੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tin(h) kee gahan gat kahee na jai ||
their sublime state cannot be described.
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਿਤੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
poorai satigur dhitee vaddiaaiee ||
The Perfect True Guru has given the Glorious Greatness,
ਊਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
uootam padhavee har naam samaiee ||2||
of the most exalted order, and I am absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||2||
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
jo kichh kare su aape aap ||
Whatever the Lord does, He does all by Himself.
ਏਕ ਘੜੀ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ॥
ek ghaRee meh thaap uthaap ||
In an instant, He establishes, and disestablishes.
ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਣਾ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਘਾਲੇ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
keh keh kahanaa aakh sunaae || je sau ghaale thai na paae ||3||
By merely speaking, talking, shouting and preaching about the Lord, even hundreds of times, the mortal is not approved. ||3||
ਜਿਨੑ ਕੈ ਪੋਤੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jin(h) kai potai pu(n)n tin(h)aa guroo milaae ||
The Guru meets with those, who take virtue as their treasure;
ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
sach baanee gur sabadh sunaae ||
they listen to the True Word of the Guru's Bani, the Shabad.
ਜਹਾਂ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਤਹਾਂ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
jahaa(n) sabadh vasai tahaa(n) dhukh jaae ||
Pain departs, from that place where the Shabad abides.
ਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਤਨਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥
giaan ratan saachai sahaj samaae ||4||
By the jewel of spiritual wisdom, one is easily absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||
ਨਾਵੈ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
naavai jevadd hor dhan naahee koi ||
No other wealth is as great as the Naam.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
jis no bakhase saachaa soi ||
It is bestowed only by the True Lord.
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
poorai sabadh ma(n)n vasaae ||
Through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, it abides in the mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥੧੧॥੫੦॥
naanak naam rate sukh paae ||5||11||50||
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, peace is obtained. ||5||11||50||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
aasaa mahalaa teejaa ||
Aasaa, Third Mehla:
ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾਏ ॥
nirat kare bahu vaaje vajaae ||
One may dance and play numerous instruments;
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
eih man a(n)dhaa bolaa hai kis aakh sunaae ||
but this mind is blind and deaf, so for whose benefit is this speaking and preaching?
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਅਨਲ ਵਾਉ ॥
a(n)tar lobh bharam anal vaau ||
Deep within is the fire of greed, and the dust-storm of doubt.
ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਨ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
dheevaa balai na sojhee pai ||1||
The lamp of knowledge is not burning, and understanding is not obtained. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
gurmukh bhagat ghaT chaanan hoi ||
The Gurmukh has the light of devotional worship within his heart.
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aap pachhaan milai prabh soi ||1|| rahaau ||
Understanding his own self, he meets God. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਉ ॥
gurmukh nirat har laagai bhaau ||
The Gurmukh's dance is to embrace love for the Lord;
ਪੂਰੇ ਤਾਲ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
poore taal vichahu aap gavai ||
to the beat of the drum, he sheds his ego from within.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
meraa prabh saachaa aape jaan ||
My God is True; He Himself is the Knower of all.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
gur kai sabadh a(n)tar braham pachhaan ||2||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, recognize the Creator Lord within yourself. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
gurmukh bhagat a(n)tar preet piaar ||
The Gurmukh is filled with devotional love for the Beloved Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gur kaa sabadh sahaj veechaar ||
He intuitively reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
gurmukh bhagat jugat sach soi ||
For the Gurmukh, loving devotional worship is the way to the True Lord.
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
paakha(n)dd bhagat nirat dhukh hoi ||3||
But the dances and the worship of the hypocrites bring only pain. ||3||
