ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਘਰੁ ੨ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
raag aasaa ghar doojaa mahalaa chauthhaa ||
Raag Aasaa, Second House, Fourth Mehla:
ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਧੜਾ ਕੀਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਤ ਨਾਲਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
kis hee dhaRaa keeaa mitr sut naal bhaiee ||
Some form alliances with friends, children and siblings.
ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਧੜਾ ਕੀਆ ਕੁੜਮ ਸਕੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਜਵਾਈ ॥
kis hee dhaRaa keeaa kuRam sake naal javaiee ||
Some form alliances with in-laws and relatives.
ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਧੜਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਿਕਦਾਰ ਚਉਧਰੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਸੁਆਈ ॥
kis hee dhaRaa keeaa sikadhaar chaudharee naal aapanai suaaiee ||
Some form alliances with chiefs and leaders for their own selfish motives.
ਹਮਾਰਾ ਧੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
hamaaraa dhaRaa har rahiaa samaiee ||1||
My alliance is with the Lord, who is pervading everywhere. ||1||
ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਧੜਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ॥
ham har siau dhaRaa keeaa meree har Tek ||
I have formed my alliance with the Lord; the Lord is my only support.
ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਖੁ ਧੜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਅਸੰਖ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mai har bin pakh dhaRaa avar na koiee hau har gun gaavaa asa(n)kh anek ||1|| rahaau ||
Other than the Lord, I have no other faction or alliance; I sing of the countless and endless Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨੑ ਸਿਉ ਧੜੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
jin(h) siau dhaRe kareh se jaeh ||
Those with whom you form alliances, shall perish.
ਝੂਠੁ ਧੜੇ ਕਰਿ ਪਛੋਤਾਹਿ ॥
jhooTh dhaRe kar pachhotaeh ||
Making false alliances, the mortals repent and regret in the end.
ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਖੋਟੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
thir na raheh man khoT kamaeh ||
Those who practice falsehood shall not last.
ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਧੜਾ ਕੀਆ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
ham har siau dhaRaa keeaa jis kaa koiee samarath naeh ||2||
I have formed my alliance with the Lord; there is no one more powerful than Him. ||2||
ਏਹ ਸਭਿ ਧੜੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਸਾਰੀ ॥
eh sabh dhaRe maiaa moh pasaaree ||
All these alliances are mere extensions of the love of Maya.
ਮਾਇਆ ਕਉ ਲੂਝਹਿ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ॥
maiaa kau loojheh gaavaaree ||
Only fools argue over Maya.
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਜੂਐ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥
janam mareh jooaai baajee haaree ||
They are born, and they die, and they lose the game of life in the gamble.
ਹਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਧੜਾ ਜਿ ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
hamarai har dhaRaa j halat palat sabh savaaree ||3||
My alliance is with the Lord, who embellishes all, in this world and the next. ||3||
ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਧੜੇ ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਝਗੜਾਏ ॥
kalijug meh dhaRe pa(n)ch chor jhagaRaae ||
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the five thieves instigate alliances and conflicts.
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਵਧਾਏ ॥
kaam karodh lobh moh abhimaan vadhaae ||
Sexual desire, anger, greed, emotional attachment and self-conceit have increased.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jis no kirapaa kare tis satasa(n)g milaae ||
One who is blessed by the Lord's Grace, joins the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
ਹਮਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਧੜਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹ ਧੜੇ ਸਭਿ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੪॥
hamaraa har dhaRaa jin eh dhaRe sabh gavaae ||4||
My alliance is with the Lord, who has destroyed all these alliances. ||4||
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਧੜੇ ਬਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
mithiaa dhoojaa bhaau dhaRe beh paavai ||
In the false love of duality, people sit and form alliances.
ਪਰਾਇਆ ਛਿਦ੍ਰੁ ਅਟਕਲੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਵਧਾਵੈ ॥
paraiaa chhidhr aTakalai aapanaa aha(n)kaar vadhaavai ||
They complain about other peoples' faults, while their own self-conceit only increases.
ਜੈਸਾ ਬੀਜੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
jaisaa beejai taisaa khaavai ||
As they plant, so shall they harvest.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਧੜਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਜਿਣਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੫॥੨॥੫੪॥
jan naanak kaa har dhaRaa dharam sabh sirasaT jin aavai ||5||2||54||
Servant Nanak has joined the Lord's alliance of Dharma, which shall conquer the whole world. ||5||2||54||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
aasaa mahalaa chauthhaa ||
Aasaa, Fourth Mehla:
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
hiradhai sun sun man a(n)mrit bhaiaa ||
Constantly listening to the Ambrosial Gurbani in the heart, it becomes pleasing to the mind.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
gurbaanee har alakh lakhaiaa ||1||
Through Gurbani, the Incomprehensible Lord is comprehended. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੈਨਾ ॥
gurmukh naam sunahu meree bhainaa ||
As Gurmukh, listen to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O my sisters.
ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੈਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
eko rav rahiaa ghaT a(n)tar mukh bolahu gur a(n)mirat bainaa ||1|| rahaau ||
The One Lord is pervading and permeating deep within the heart; with your mouth, recite the Ambrosial Hymns of the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ॥
mai man tan prem mahaa bairaag ||
My mind and body are filled with divine love, and great sadness.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੁ ॥੨॥
satigur purakh paiaa vaddabhaag ||2||
By great good fortune, I have obtained the True Guru, the Primal Being. ||2||
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਵਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
dhoojai bhai bhaveh bikh maiaa ||
In the love of duality, the mortals wander through poisonous Maya.
ਭਾਗਹੀਨ ਨਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
bhaagaheen nahee satigur paiaa ||3||
The unfortunate ones do not meet the True Guru. ||3||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਪੀਆਇਆ ॥
a(n)mrit har ras har aap peeaaiaa ||
The Lord Himself inspires us to drink in the Lord's Ambrosial Elixir.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੫੫॥
gur poorai naanak har paiaa ||4||3||55||
Through the Perfect Guru, O Nanak, the Lord is obtained. ||4||3||55||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
aasaa mahalaa chauthhaa ||
Aasaa, Fourth Mehla:
ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
merai man tan prem naam aadhaar ||
The Love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the Support of my mind and body.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀ ਨਾਮੋ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
naam japee naamo sukh saar ||1||
I chant the Naam; the Naam is the essence of peace. ||1||
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਜਨ ਸੈਨਾ ॥
naam japahu mere saajan sainaa ||
So chant the Naam, O my friends and companions.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਲੈਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam binaa mai avar na koiee vaddai bhaag gurmukh har lainaa ||1|| rahaau ||
Without the Naam, there is nothing else for me. By great good fortune, as Gurmukh, I have received the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
naam binaa nahee jeeviaa jai ||
Without the Naam, I cannot live.
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
vaddai bhaag gurmukh har pai ||2||
By great good fortune, the Gurmukhs obtain the Naam. ||2||
ਨਾਮਹੀਨ ਕਾਲਖ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
naamaheen kaalakh mukh maiaa ||
Those who lack the Naam have their faces rubbed in the dirt of Maya.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
naam binaa dhirag dhirag jeevaiaa ||3||
Without the Naam, cursed, cursed are their lives. ||3||
