ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਗਾਖਰੋ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਕਉਨ ਛੁਟਿਓ ਰੀ ॥
kaam karodh aha(n)kaar gaakharo sa(n)jam kaun chhuTio ree ||
How have you escaped from the treachery of sexual desire, anger and egotism?
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਦੇਵ ਅਸੁਰ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਨੀਆ ਸਗਲੋ ਭਵਨੁ ਲੁਟਿਓ ਰੀ ॥੧॥
sur nar dhev asur trai guneeaa sagalo bhavan luTio ree ||1||
The holy beings, angels and demons of the three qualities, and all the worlds have been plundered. ||1||
ਦਾਵਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਜਾਲੇ ਕੋਈ ਹਰਿਆ ਬੂਟੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਰੀ ॥
dhaavaa agan bahut tiran jaale koiee hariaa booT rahio ree ||
The forest fire has burnt down so much of the grass; how rare are the plants which have remained green.
ਐਸੋ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਵਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕਹਿਓ ਰੀ ॥੨॥
aaiso samarath varan na saakau taa kee upamaa jaat na kahio ree ||2||
He is so All-powerful, that I cannot even describe Him; no one can chant His Praises. ||2||
ਕਾਜਰ ਕੋਠ ਮਹਿ ਭਈ ਨ ਕਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਰਨੁ ਬਨਿਓ ਰੀ ॥
kaajar koTh meh bhiee na kaaree niramal baran banio ree ||
In the store-room of the lamp-black, I did not turn black; my color remained immaculate and pure.
ਮਹਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਿਓ ਅਚਰਜ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਿਓ ਰੀ ॥੩॥
mahaa ma(n)tr gur hiradhai basio acharaj naam sunio ree ||3||
The Guru has implanted the Maha Mantra, the Great Mantra, within my heart, and I have heard the wondrous Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਦਰਿ ਅਵਲੋਕਨ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਚਰਣਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥
kar kirapaa prabh nadhar avalokan apunai charan lagaiee ||
Showing His Mercy, God has looked upon me with favor, and He has attached me to His feet.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੫੧॥
prem bhagat naanak sukh paiaa saadhoo sa(n)g samaiee ||4||12||51||
Through loving devotional worship, O Nanak, I have obtained peace; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I am absorbed into the Lord. ||4||12||51||

ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਘਰੁ ੭ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Seventh House, Fifth Mehla:
ਲਾਲੁ ਚੋਲਨਾ ਤੈ ਤਨਿ ਸੋਹਿਆ ॥
laal cholanaa tai tan sohiaa ||
That red dress looks so beautiful on your body.
ਸੁਰਿਜਨ ਭਾਨੀ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ॥੧॥
surijan bhaanee taa(n) man mohiaa ||1||
Your Husband Lord is pleased, and His heart is enticed. ||1||
ਕਵਨ ਬਨੀ ਰੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਲਾਲੀ ॥
kavan banee ree teree laalee ||
Whose handiwork is this red beauty of yours?
ਕਵਨ ਰੰਗਿ ਤੂੰ ਭਈ ਗੁਲਾਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kavan ra(n)g too(n) bhiee gulaalee ||1|| rahaau ||
Whose love has rendered the poppy so red? ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਸੁਹਾਗੁ ॥
tum hee su(n)dhar tumeh suhaag ||
You are so beautiful; you are the happy soul-bride.
ਤੁਮ ਘਰਿ ਲਾਲਨੁ ਤੁਮ ਘਰਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੨॥
tum ghar laalan tum ghar bhaag ||2||
Your Beloved is in your home; good fortune is in your home. ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਸਤਵੰਤੀ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਧਾਨਿ ॥
too(n) satava(n)tee too(n) paradhaan ||
You are pure and chaste, you are most distinguished.
ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਭਾਨੀ ਤੁਹੀ ਸੁਰ ਗਿਆਨਿ ॥੩॥
too(n) preetam bhaanee tuhee sur giaan ||3||
You are pleasing to Your Beloved, and you have sublime understanding. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਭਾਨੀ ਤਾਂ ਰੰਗਿ ਗੁਲਾਲ ॥
preetam bhaanee taa(n) ra(n)g gulaal ||
I am pleasing to my Beloved, and so I am imbued with the deep red color.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਭ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੪॥
kahu naanak subh dhirasaT nihaal ||4||
Says Nanak, I have been totally blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace. ||4||
ਸੁਨਿ ਰੀ ਸਖੀ ਇਹ ਹਮਰੀ ਘਾਲ ॥
sun ree sakhee ieh hamaree ghaal ||
Listen, O companions: this is my only work;
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿ ਸਵਾਰਨਹਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥੫੨॥
prabh aap seegaar savaaranahaar ||1|| rahaau dhoojaa ||1||52||
God Himself is the One who embellishes and adorns. ||1||Second Pause||1||52||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਦੂਖੁ ਘਨੋ ਜਬ ਹੋਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
dhookh ghano jab hote dhoor ||
I suffered in pain, when I thought He was far away;
ਅਬ ਮਸਲਤਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥
ab masalat moh milee hadhoor ||1||
but now, He is Ever-present, and I receive His instructions. ||1||
ਚੁਕਾ ਨਿਹੋਰਾ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਰੀ ॥
chukaa nihoraa sakhee saheree ||
My pride is gone, O friends and companions;
ਭਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਿਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bharam giaa gur pir sa(n)g meree ||1|| rahaau ||
my doubt is dispelled, and the Guru has united me with my Beloved. ||1||Pause||
ਨਿਕਟਿ ਆਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸੇਜ ਧਰੀ ॥
nikaT aan pria sej dharee ||
My Beloved has drawn me near to Him, and seated me on His Bed;
ਕਾਣਿ ਕਢਨ ਤੇ ਛੂਟਿ ਪਰੀ ॥੨॥
kaan kaddan te chhooT paree ||2||
I have escaped the clutches of others. ||2||
ਮੰਦਰਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਉਜਾਰਾ ॥
ma(n)dhar merai sabadh ujaaraa ||
In the mansion of my heart, shines the Light of the Shabad.
ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
anadh binodhee khasam hamaaraa ||3||
My Husband Lord is blissful and playful. ||3||
ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
masatak bhaag mai pir ghar aaiaa ||
According to the destiny written upon my forehead, my Husband Lord has come home to me.
ਥਿਰੁ ਸੋਹਾਗੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੫੩॥
thir sohaag naanak jan paiaa ||4||2||53||
Servant Nanak has obtained the eternal marriage. ||4||2||53||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
saach naam meraa man laagaa ||
My mind is attached to the True Name.
ਲੋਗਨ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਠਾ ਬਾਗਾ ॥੧॥
logan siau meraa ThaaThaa baagaa ||1||
My dealings with other people are only superficial. ||1||
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੂਤੁ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਉ ਮਉਲਾ ॥
baahar soot sagal siau maulaa ||
Outwardly, I am on good terms with all;
ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਰਹਉ ਜੈਸੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਉਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
alipat rahau jaise jal meh kaulaa ||1|| rahaau ||
but I remain detached, like the lotus upon the water. ||1||Pause||
ਮੁਖ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਉ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
mukh kee baat sagal siau karataa ||
By word of mouth, I talk with everyone;
ਜੀਅ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਧਰਤਾ ॥੨॥
jeea sa(n)g prabh apunaa dharataa ||2||
but I keep God clasped to my heart. ||2||
ਦੀਸਿ ਆਵਤ ਹੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਭੀਹਾਲਾ ॥
dhees aavat hai bahut bheehaalaa ||
I may appear utterly terrible,
ਸਗਲ ਚਰਨ ਕੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
sagal charan kee ih man raalaa ||3||
but my mind is the dust of all men's feet.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
naanak jan gur pooraa paiaa ||
Servant Nanak has found the Perfect Guru.
