ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਗੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥੨॥
gur sevaa mahal paieeaai jag dhutar tareeaai ||2||
Serving the Guru, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is obtained, and the impassable world-ocean is crossed over. ||2||
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
dhirasaT teree sukh paieeaai man maeh nidhaanaa ||
By Your Glance of Grace, peace is obtained, and the treasure fills the mind.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਭਏ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
jaa kau tum kirapaal bhe sevak se paravaanaa ||3||
That servant, unto whom You bestow Your Mercy, is approved and accepted. ||3||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੋ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪੀਵੈ ॥
a(n)mirat ras har keeratano ko viralaa peevai ||
How rare is that person who drinks in the Ambrosial Essence of the Lord's Kirtan.
ਵਜਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੈ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੧੧੬॥
vajahu naanak milai ek naam ridh jap jap jeevai ||4||14||116||
Nanak has obtained the commodity of the One Name; he lives by chanting and meditating on it within his heart. ||4||14||116||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਹਉ ਚੇਰੁਲੀ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ॥
jaa prabh kee hau cherulee so sabh te uoochaa ||
I am God's maid-servant; He is the highest of all.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਾਂਢੀਐ ਥੋਰਾ ਅਰੁ ਮੂਚਾ ॥੧॥
sabh kichh taa kaa kaa(n)ddeeaai thoraa ar moochaa ||1||
All things, big and small, are said to belong to Him. ||1||
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਧਨੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਮਨੀਆ ॥
jeea praan meraa dhano saahib kee maneeaa ||
I surrender my soul, my breath of life, and my wealth, to my Lord Master.
ਨਾਮਿ ਜਿਸੈ ਕੈ ਊਜਲੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਾਸੀ ਗਨੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam jisai kai uoojalee tis dhaasee ganeeaa ||1|| rahaau ||
Through His Name, I become radiant; I am known as His slave. ||1||Pause||
ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਅਨੰਦ ਮੈ ਨਾਉ ਮਾਣਕ ਹੀਰਾ ॥
veparavaahu ana(n)dh mai naau maanak heeraa ||
You are Carefree, the Embodiment of Bliss. Your Name is a gem, a jewel.
ਰਜੀ ਧਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੀਰਾ ॥੨॥
rajee dhaiee sadhaa sukh jaa kaa too(n) meeraa ||2||
One who has You as her Master, is satisfied, satiated and happy forever. ||2||
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਰੀ ਸੰਗ ਕੀ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵਉ ॥
sakhee saheree sa(n)g kee sumat dhiraRaavau ||
O my companions and fellow maidens, please implant that balanced understanding within me.
ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਭਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਤਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵਉ ॥੩॥
sevahu saadhoo bhaau kar tau nidh har paavau ||3||
Serve the Holy Saints lovingly, and find the treasure of the Lord. ||3||
ਸਗਲੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਠਾਕੁਰੈ ਸਭ ਕਹਤੀ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
sagalee dhaasee Thaakurai sabh kahatee meraa ||
All are servants of the Lord Master, and all call Him their own.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੁਖਹਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੧੧੭॥
jiseh seegaare naanakaa tis sukheh baseraa ||4||15||117||
She alone dwells in peace, O Nanak, whom the Lord adorns. ||4||15||117||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਸੰਤਾ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਰੀ ਏਹੁ ਅਚਾਰਾ ਸਿਖੁ ਰੀ ॥
sa(n)taa kee hoi dhaasaree eh achaaraa sikh ree ||
Become the servant of the Saints, and learn this way of life.
ਸਗਲ ਗੁਣਾ ਗੁਣ ਊਤਮੋ ਭਰਤਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਪਿਖੁ ਰੀ ॥੧॥
sagal gunaa gun uootamo bharataa dhoor na pikh ree ||1||
Of all virtues, the most sublime virtue is to see your Husband Lord near at hand. ||1||
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੀ ॥
eih man su(n)dhar aapanaa har naam majeeThai ra(n)g ree ||
So, dye this mind of yours with the color of the Lord's Love.
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਚਾਤੁਰੀ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣੁ ਗੁਪਾਲਹਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tiaag siaanap chaaturee too(n) jaan gupaaleh sa(n)g ree ||1|| rahaau ||
Renounce cleverness and cunning, and know that the Sustainer of the world is with you. ||1||Pause||
ਭਰਤਾ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੀਐ ਏਹੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਇ ਰੀ ॥
bharataa kahai su maaneeaai eh seegaar banai ree ||
Whatever your Husband Lord says, accept that, and make it your decoration.
ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਏਹੁ ਤੰਬੋਲਾ ਖਾਇ ਰੀ ॥੨॥
dhoojaa bhaau visaareeaai eh ta(n)bolaa khai ree ||2||
Forget the love of duality, and chew upon this betel leaf. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਪਕੋ ਇਹ ਸਤ ਕੀ ਸੇਜ ਬਿਛਾਇ ਰੀ ॥
gur kaa sabadh kar dheepako ieh sat kee sej bichhai ree ||
Make the Word of the Guru's Shabad your lamp, and let your bed be Truth.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਰਹੁ ਤਉ ਭੇਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਰੀ ॥੩॥
aaTh pahar kar joR rahu tau bheTai har rai ree ||3||
Twenty-four hours a day, stand with your palms pressed together, and the Lord, your King, shall meet you. ||3||
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਚਜੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਈ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ਰੀ ॥
tis hee chaj seegaar sabh saiee roop apaar ree ||
She alone is cultured and embellished, and she alone is of incomparable beauty.
ਸਾਈ ਸੋੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜੋ ਭਾਣੀ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੧੧੮॥
saiee suohaagan naanakaa jo bhaanee karataar ree ||4||16||118||
She alone is the happy soul-bride, O Nanak, who is pleasing to the Creator Lord. ||4||16||118||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਡੀਗਨ ਡੋਲਾ ਤਊ ਲਉ ਜਉ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥
ddeegan ddolaa tuoo lau jau man ke bharamaa ||
As long as there are doubts in the mind, the mortal staggers and falls.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕਾਟੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਸਰਾਮਾ ॥੧॥
bhram kaaTe gur aapanai paae bisaraamaa ||1||
The Guru removed my doubts, and I have obtained my place of rest. ||1||
ਓਇ ਬਿਖਾਦੀ ਦੋਖੀਆ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੂਟੇ ॥
oi bikhaadhee dhokheeaa te gur te hooTe ||
Those quarrelsome enemies have been overcome, through the Guru.
ਹਮ ਛੂਟੇ ਅਬ ਉਨੑਾ ਤੇ ਓਇ ਹਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham chhooTe ab un(h)aa te oi ham te chhooTe ||1|| rahaau ||
I have now escaped from them, and they have run away from me. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਾਨਤਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਬੰਧਾ ॥
meraa teraa jaanataa tab hee te ba(n)dhaa ||
He is concerned with 'mine and yours', and so he is held in bondage.
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਟੀ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਤਬ ਛੁਟਕੇ ਫੰਧਾ ॥੨॥
gur kaaTee agiaanataa tab chhuTake fa(n)dhaa ||2||
When the Guru dispelled my ignorance, then the noose of death was cut away from my neck. ||2||
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਤਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਲਉ ਦੁਖੀਆ ॥
jab lag hukam na boojhataa tab hee lau dhukheeaa ||
As long as he does not understand the Command of God's Will, he remains miserable.
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੀਆ ॥੩॥
gur mil hukam pachhaaniaa tab hee te sukheeaa ||3||
Meeting with the Guru, he comes to recognize God's Will, and then, he becomes happy. ||3||
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਦੋਖੀਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
naa ko dhusaman dhokheeaa naahee ko ma(n)dhaa ||
I have no enemies and no adversaries; no one is wicked to me.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਖਸਮੈ ਬੰਦਾ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੧੧੯॥
gur kee sevaa sevako naanak khasamai ba(n)dhaa ||4||17||119||
That servant, who performs the Lord's service, O Nanak, is the slave of the Lord Master. ||4||17||119||

ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨਦੁ ਘਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਉ ॥
sookh sahaj aanadh ghanaa har keeratan gaau ||
Peace, celestial poise and absolute bliss are obtained, singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਗਰਹ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਪਣਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥
gareh nivaare satiguroo dhe apanaa naau ||1||
Bestowing His Name, the True Guru removes the evil omens. ||1||
ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
balihaaree gur aapane sadh sadh bal jaau ||
I am a sacrifice to my Guru; forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to Him.
