ਆਪਣੈ ਹਥਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
aapanai hath vaddiaaieeaa dhe naame laae ||
Glory is in His Hands; He bestows His Name, and attaches us to it.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਏ ॥੮॥੪॥੨੬॥
naanak naam nidhaan man vasiaa vaddiaaiee paae ||8||4||26||
O Nanak, the treasure of the Naam abides within the mind, and glory is obtained. ||8||4||26||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
aasaa mahalaa teejaa ||
Aasaa, Third Mehla:
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
sun man ma(n)n vasai too(n) aape aai milai mere bhaiee ||
Listen, O mortal: enshrine His Name within your mind; He shall come to meet with you, O my Sibling of Destiny.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥
anadhin sachee bhagat kar sachai chit laiee ||1||
Night and day, center your consciousness on true devotional worship of the True Lord. ||1||
ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
eko naam dhiaai too(n) sukh paaveh mere bhaiee ||
Meditate on the One Naam, and you shall find peace, O my Siblings of Destiny.
ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
haumai dhoojaa dhoor kar vaddee vaddiaaiee ||1|| rahaau ||
Eradicate egotism and duality, and your glory shall be glorious. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਨੋ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
eis bhagatee no sur nar mun jan lochadhe vin satigur paiee na jai ||
The angels, humans and silent sages long for this devotional worship, but without the True Guru, it cannot be attained.
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਦੇ ਜੋਤਿਕੀ ਤਿਨ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
pa(n)ddit paRadhe jotikee tin boojh na pai ||2||
The Pandits, the religious scholars, and the astrologers read their books, but they do not understand. ||2||
ਆਪੈ ਥੈ ਸਭੁ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
aapai thai sabh rakhion kichh kahan na jaiee ||
He Himself keeps all in His Hand; nothing else can be said.
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥
aape dhei su paieeaai gur boojh bujhaiee ||3||
Whatever He gives, is received. The Guru has imparted this understanding to me. ||3||
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
jeea ja(n)t sabh tis dhe sabhanaa kaa soiee ||
All beings and creatures are His; He belongs to all.
ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਜੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
ma(n)dhaa kis no aakheeaai je dhoojaa hoiee ||4||
So who can we call bad, since there is no other? ||4||
ਇਕੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਏਕਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰਾ ॥
eiko hukam varatadhaa ekaa sir kaaraa ||
The Command of the One Lord is pervading throughout; duty to the One Lord is upon the heads of all.
ਆਪਿ ਭਵਾਲੀ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
aap bhavaalee dhiteean a(n)tar lobh vikaaraa ||5||
He Himself has led them astray, and placed greed and corruption within their hearts. ||5||
ਇਕ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਤਿਅਨੁ ਬੂਝਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
eik aape gurmukh keetian boojhan veechaaraa ||
He has sanctified those few Gurmukhs who understand Him, and reflect upon Him.
ਭਗਤਿ ਭੀ ਓਨਾ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੀਅਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੬॥
bhagat bhee onaa no bakhaseean a(n)tar bha(n)ddaaraa ||6||
He grants devotional worship to them, and within them is the treasure. ||6||
ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
giaaneeaa no sabh sach hai sach sojhee hoiee ||
The spiritual teachers know nothing but the Truth; they obtain true understanding.
ਓਇ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇ ਨ ਭੁਲਨੑੀ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੭॥
oi bhulaae kisai dhe na bhulan(h)ee sach jaanan soiee ||7||
They are led astray by Him, but they do not go astray, because they know the True Lord. ||7||
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਪੰਚ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਪੰਚੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
ghar meh pa(n)ch varatadhe pa(n)che veechaaree ||
Within the homes of their bodies, the five passions are pervading, but here, the five are well-behaved.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਆਵਨੑੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੮॥੫॥੨੭॥
naanak bin satigur vas na aavan(h)ee naam haumai maaree ||8||5||27||
O Nanak, without the True Guru, they are not overcome; through the Naam, the ego is conquered. ||8||5||27||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
aasaa mahalaa teejaa ||
Aasaa, Third Mehla:
ਘਰੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਵਥੁ ਹੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
gharai a(n)dhar sabh vath hai baahar kichh naahee ||
Everything is within the home of your own self; there is nothing beyond it.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
gur parasaadhee paieeaai a(n)tar kapaT khulaahee ||1||
By Guru's Grace, it is obtained, and the doors of the inner heart are opened wide. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ॥
satigur te har paieeaai bhaiee ||
From the True Guru, the Lord's Name is obtained, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
a(n)tar naam nidhaan hai poorai satigur dheeaa dhikhaiee ||1|| rahaau ||
The treasure of the Naam is within; the Perfect True Guru has shown this to me. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਗਾਹਕੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਲਏ ਪਾਏ ਰਤਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
har kaa gaahak hovai so le paae ratan veechaaraa ||
One who is a buyer of the Lord's Name, finds it, and obtains the jewel of contemplation.
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਲੈ ਦਿਬ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
a(n)dhar kholai dhib dhisaT dhekhai mukat bha(n)ddaaraa ||2||
He opens the doors deep within, and through the Eyes of Divine Vision, beholds the treasure of liberation. ||2||
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲ ਅਨੇਕ ਹਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਕਰੇ ਵਸੇਰਾ ॥
a(n)dhar mahal anek heh jeeau kare vaseraa ||
There are so many mansions within the body; the soul dwells within them.
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੩॥
man chi(n)dhiaa fal paisee fir hoi na feraa ||3||
He obtains the fruits of his mind's desires, and he shall not have to go through reincarnation again. ||3||
ਪਾਰਖੀਆ ਵਥੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਲਈ ਗੁਰ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
paarakheeaa vath samaal liee gur sojhee hoiee ||
The appraisers cherish the commodity of the Name; they obtain understanding from the Guru.
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਸਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੪॥
naam padhaarath amul saa gurmukh paavai koiee ||4||
The wealth of the Naam is priceless; how few are the Gurmukhs who obtain it. ||4||
ਬਾਹਰੁ ਭਾਲੇ ਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਲਹੈ ਵਥੁ ਘਰੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
baahar bhaale su kiaa lahai vath gharai a(n)dhar bhaiee ||
Searching outwardly, what can anyone find? The commodity is deep within the home of the self, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੫॥
bharame bhoolaa sabh jag firai manmukh pat gavaiee ||5||
The entire world is wandering around, deluded by doubt; the self-willed manmukhs lose their honor. ||5||
ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਛੋਡੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰ ਘਰਿ ਝੂਠਾ ਜਾਈ ॥
ghar dhar chhodde aapanaa par ghar jhooThaa jaiee ||
The false one leaves his own hearth and home, and goes out to another's home.
ਚੋਰੈ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਪਕੜੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਈ ॥੬॥
chorai vaa(n)goo pakaReeaai bin naavai choTaa khaiee ||6||
Like a thief, he is caught, and without the Naam, he is beaten and struck down. ||6||
ਜਿਨੑੀ ਘਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਭਾਈ ॥
jin(h)ee ghar jaataa aapanaa se sukhe'ee bhaiee ||
Those who know their own home, are happy, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੭॥
a(n)tar braham pachhaaniaa gur kee vaddiaaiee ||7||
They realize God within their own hearts, through the glorious greatness of the Guru. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
aape dhaan kare kis aakheeaai aape dhei bujhaiee ||
He Himself gives gifts, and He Himself bestows understanding; unto whom can we complain?
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥੮॥੬॥੨੮॥
naanak naam dhiaai too(n) dhar sachai sobhaa paiee ||8||6||28||
O Nanak, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and you shall obtain glory in the True Court. ||8||6||28||
