ਏ ਮਨ ਰੂੜੑੇ ਰੰਗੁਲੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਇ ॥
e man rooR(h)e ra(n)gule too(n) sachaa ra(n)g chaRai ||
O beauteous and joyful mind, imbue yourself with your true color.
ਰੂੜੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੇ ਰਪੈ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rooRee baanee je rapai naa ih ra(n)g lahai na jai ||1|| rahaau ||
If you imbue yourself with the Beauteous Word of the Guru's Bani, then this color shall never fade away. ||1||Pause||
ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਮੈਲੇ ਅਤਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
ham neech maile at abhimaanee dhoojai bhai vikaar ||
I am lowly, filthy, and totally egotistical; I am attached to the corruption of duality.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਰਸਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਹੋਏ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੨॥
gur paaras miliaai ka(n)chan hoe niramal jot apaar ||2||
But meeting with the Guru, the Philosopher's Stone, I am transformed into gold; I am blended with the Pure Light of the Infinite Lord. ||2||
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰੰਗੀਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਉ ॥
bin gur koi na ra(n)geeaai gur miliaai ra(n)g chaRaau ||
Without the Guru, no one is imbued with the color of the Lord's Love; meeting with the Guru, this color is applied.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੩॥
gur kai bhai bhai jo rate sifatee sach samaau ||3||
Those who are imbued with the Fear, and the Love of the Guru, are absorbed in the Praise of the True Lord. ||3||
ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਲਾਗਿ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhai bin laag na lagiee naa man niramal hoi ||
Without fear, the cloth is not dyed, and the mind is not rendered pure.
ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਠਾਉ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੪॥
bin bhai karam kamaavane jhooThe Thaau na koi ||4||
Without fear, the performance of rituals is false, and one finds no place of rest. ||4||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਸੁ ਰਪਸੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
jis no aape ra(n)ge su rapasee satasa(n)gat milai ||
Only those whom the Lord imbues, are so imbued; they join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੫॥
poore gur te satasa(n)gat uoopajai sahaje sach subhai ||5||
From the Perfect Guru, the Sat Sangat emanates, and one easily merges into the Love of the True One. ||5||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਸਭਿ ਐਸੇ ਰਹਹਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਸੁ ਢੋਰ ॥
bin sa(n)gatee sabh aaise raheh jaise pas ddor ||
Without the Sangat, the Company of the Holy, all remain like beasts and animals.
ਜਿਨਿੑ ਕੀਤੇ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੑੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਚੋਰ ॥੬॥
jini(h) keete tisai na jaanan(h)ee bin naavai sabh chor ||6||
They do not know the One who created them; without the Name, all are thieves. ||6||
ਇਕਿ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਹਾਝਹਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਵਿਕਣਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
eik gun vihaajheh aaugan vikaneh gur kai sahaj subhai ||
Some purchase merits and sell off their demerits; through the Guru, they obtain peace and poise.
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਵੁਠਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਇ ॥੭॥
gur sevaa te naau paiaa vuThaa a(n)dhar aai ||7||
Serving the Guru, they obtain the Name, which comes to dwell deep within. ||7||
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇ ॥
sabhanaa kaa dhaataa ek hai sir dha(n)dhai lai ||
The One Lord is the Giver of all; He assigns tasks to each and every person.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਇ ਸਵਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੮॥੯॥੩੧॥
naanak naame lai savaarian sabadhe le milai ||8||9||31||
O Nanak, the Lord embellishes us with the Name; attached to the Word of the Shabad, we are merged into Him. ||8||9||31||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
aasaa mahalaa teejaa ||
Aasaa, Third Mehla:
ਸਭ ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਲੋਚਦੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
sabh naavai no lochadhee jis kirapaa kare so paae ||
Everyone longs for the Name, but he alone receives it, unto whom the Lord shows His Mercy.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥੧॥
bin naavai sabh dhukh hai sukh tis jis ma(n)n vasaae ||1||
Without the Name, there is only pain; he alone obtains peace, whose mind is filled with the Name. ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
too(n) bea(n)t dhiaal hai teree saranaiee ||
You are infinite and merciful; I seek Your Sanctuary.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur poore te paieeaai naame vaddiaaiee ||1|| rahaau ||
From the Perfect Guru, the glorious greatness of the Naam is obtained. ||1||Pause||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
a(n)tar baahar ek hai bahu bidh sirasaT upaiee ||
Inwardly and outwardly, there is only the One Lord. He has created the world, with its many varieties.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਭਾਈ ॥੨॥
hukame kaar karaidhaa dhoojaa kis kaheeaai bhaiee ||2||
According to the Order of His Will, He makes us act. What else can we talk about, O Siblings of Destiny? ||2||
ਬੁਝਣਾ ਅਬੁਝਣਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਕੀਆ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥
bujhanaa abujhanaa tudh keeaa ieh teree sir kaar ||
Knowledge and ignorance are all your making; You have control over these.
ਇਕਨੑਾ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥੩॥
eikan(h)aa bakhaseh mel laih ik dharageh maar kadde kooRiaar ||3||
Some, You forgive, and unite with Yourself; while others, the wicked, you strike down and drive out of Your Court. ||3||
ਇਕਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਵਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਹਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
eik dhur pavit paavan heh tudh naame laae ||
Some, from the very beginning, are pure and pious; You attach them to Your Name.
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੪॥
gur sevaa te sukh uoopajai sachai sabadh bujhaae ||4||
Serving the Guru, peace wells up; through the True Word of the Shabad, one comes to understand. ||4||
ਇਕਿ ਕੁਚਲ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਵਿਖਲੀ ਪਤੇ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਏ ॥
eik kuchal kucheel vikhalee pate naavahu aap khuaae ||
Some are crooked, filthy and vicious; the Lord Himself has led them astray from the Name.
ਨਾ ਓਨ ਸਿਧਿ ਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੈ ਨ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਉਤਵਤਾਏ ॥੫॥
naa on sidh na budh hai na sa(n)jamee fireh utavataae ||5||
They have no intuition, no understanding and no self-discipline; they wander around delirious. ||5||
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਲਾਏ ॥
nadhar kare jis aapanee tis no bhaavanee laae ||
He grants faith to those whom He has blessed with His Glance of Grace.
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਇਹ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੬॥
sat sa(n)tokh ieh sa(n)jamee man niramal sabadh sunaae ||6||
This mind finds truth, contentment and self-discipline, hearing the Immaculate Word of the Shabad. ||6||
ਲੇਖਾ ਪੜਿ ਨ ਪਹੂਚੀਐ ਕਥਿ ਕਹਣੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
lekhaa paR na pahoocheeaai kath kahanai a(n)t na pai ||
By reading books, one cannot reach Him; by speaking and talking, His limits cannot be found.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥
gur te keemat paieeaai sach sabadh sojhee pai ||7||
Through the Guru, His value is found; through the True Word of the Shabad, understanding is obtained. ||7||
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਸੋਧਿ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
eih man dhehee sodh too(n) gur sabadh veechaar ||
So reform this mind and body, by contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੧੦॥੩੨॥
naanak is dhehee vich naam nidhaan hai paieeaai gur kai het apaar ||8||10||32||
O Nanak, within this body is the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; it is found through the Love of the Infinite Guru. ||8||10||32||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Aasaa, Third Mehla:
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿ ॥
sach rateeaa sohaaganee jinaa gur kai sabadh seegaar ||
The happy soul-brides are imbued with Truth; they are adorned with the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
