ਪਵਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸ ਅਕਾਰ ॥
pavan paanee agan tin keeaa brahamaa bisan mahes akaar ||
He created air, water and fire, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva - the whole creation.
ਸਰਬੇ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥੪॥
sarabe jaachik too(n) prabh dhaataa dhaat kare apunai beechaar ||4||
All are beggars; You alone are the Great Giver, God. You give Your gifts according to Your own considerations. ||4||
ਕੋਟਿ ਤੇਤੀਸ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਇਕ ਦੇਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
koT tetees jaacheh prabh naik dhedhe toT naahee bha(n)ddaar ||
Three hundred thirty million gods beg of God the Master; even as He gives, His treasures are never exhausted.
ਊਂਧੈ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੀਧੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਰੈ ਨਿਹਾਰ ॥੫॥
uoo(n)dhai bhaa(n)ddai kachh na samaavai seedhai a(n)mrit parai nihaar ||5||
Nothing can be contained in a vessel turned upside-down; Ambrosial Nectar pours into the upright one. ||5||
ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਜਾਚਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੈਕਾਰ ॥
sidh samaadhee a(n)tar jaacheh ridh sidh jaach kareh jaikaar ||
The Siddhas in Samaadhi beg for wealth and miracles, and proclaim His victory.
ਜੈਸੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਹੋਇ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੈਸੋ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥੬॥
jaisee piaas hoi man a(n)tar taiso jal dheveh parakaar ||6||
As is the thirst within their minds, so is the water which You give to them. ||6||
ਬਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਭੇਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮੁਰਾਰ ॥
badde bhaag gur seveh apunaa bhedh naahee gurdhev muraar ||
The most fortunate ones serve their Guru; there is no difference between the Divine Guru and the Lord.
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਾਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹੈ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥੭॥
taa kau kaal naahee jam johai boojheh a(n)tar sabadh beechaar ||7||
The Messenger of Death cannot see those who come to realize within their minds the contemplative meditation of the Word of the Shabad. ||7||
ਅਬ ਤਬ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਮਾਗਉ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
ab tab avar na maagau har peh naam nira(n)jan dheejai piaar ||
I shall never ask anything else of the Lord; please, bless me with the Love of Your Immaculate Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੨॥
naanak chaatirak a(n)mirat jal maagai har jas dheejai kirapaa dhaar ||8||2||
Nanak, the song-bird, begs for the Ambrosial Water; O Lord, shower Your Mercy upon him, and bless him with Your Praise. ||8||2||
ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
goojaree mahalaa pehilaa ||
Goojaree, First Mehla:
ਐ ਜੀ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਜਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਈ ॥
aai jee janam marai aavai fun jaavai bin gur gat nahee kaiee ||
O Dear One, he is born, and then dies; he continues coming and going; without the Guru, he is not emancipated.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
gurmukh praanee naame raate naame gat pat paiee ||1||
Those mortals who become Gurmukhs are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord; through the Name, they obtain salvation and honor. ||1||
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥
bhaiee re raam naam chit laiee ||
O Siblings of Destiny, focus your consciousness lovingly on the Lord's Name.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਚੇ ਐਸੀ ਨਾਮ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parasaadhee har prabh jaache aaisee naam baddaiee ||1|| rahaau ||
By Guru's Grace, one begs of the Lord God; such is the glorious greatness of the Naam. ||1||Pause||
ਐ ਜੀ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਕਉ ਕੇਤੇ ਉਦਰੁ ਭਰਨ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
aai jee bahute bhekh kareh bhikhiaa kau kete udhar bharan kai taiee ||
O Dear One, so many wear various religious robes, for begging and filling their bellies.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਰਬੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
bin har bhagat naahee sukh praanee bin gur garab na jaiee ||2||
Without devotional worship to the Lord, O mortal, there can be no peace. Without the Guru, pride does not depart. ||2||
ਐ ਜੀ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਜਨਮਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਵੈਰਾਈ ॥
aai jee kaal sadhaa sir uoopar Thaadde janam janam vairaiee ||
O Dear One, death hangs constantly over his head. Incarnation after incarnation, it is his enemy.
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਬਾਚੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥
saachai sabadh rate se baache satigur boojh bujhaiee ||3||
Those who are attuned to the True Word of the Shabad are saved. The True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਦੂਤੁ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਸੰਤਾਈ ॥
gur saranaiee joh na saakai dhoot na sakai sa(n)taiee ||
In the Guru's Sanctuary, the Messenger of Death cannot see the mortal, or torture him.
ਅਵਿਗਤ ਨਾਥ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੪॥
avigat naath nira(n)jan raate nirabhau siau liv laiee ||4||
I am imbued with the Imperishable and Immaculate Lord Master, and lovingly attached to the Fearless Lord. ||4||
ਐ ਜੀਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥
aai jeeau naam dhiRahu naame liv laavahu satigur Tek Tikaiee ||
O Dear One, implant the Naam within me; lovingly attached to the Naam, I lean on the True Guru's Support.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥
jo tis bhaavai soiee karasee kirat na meTiaa jaiee ||5||
Whatever pleases Him, He does; no one can erase His actions. ||5||
ਐ ਜੀ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ਮੈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
aai jee bhaag pare gur saran tum(h)aaree mai avar na dhoojee bhaiee ||
O Dear One, I have hurried to the Sanctuary of the Guru; I have no love for any other except You.
ਅਬ ਤਬ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਪੁਕਾਰਉ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੬॥
ab tab eko ek pukaarau aadh jugaadh sakhaiee ||6||
I constantly call upon the One Lord; since the very beginning, and throughout the ages, He has been my help and support. ||6||
ਐ ਜੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪੈਜ ਨਾਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਸਿਉ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
aai jee raakhahu paij naam apune kee tujh hee siau ban aaiee ||
O Dear One, please preserve the Honor of Your Name; I am hand and glove with You.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਵਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਈ ॥੭॥
kar kirapaa gur dharas dhikhaavahu haumai sabadh jalaiee ||7||
Bless me with Your Mercy, and reveal to me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, O Guru. Through the Word of the Shabad, I have burnt away my ego. ||7||
ਐ ਜੀ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ਜਾਈ ॥
aai jee kiaa maagau kichh rahai na dheesai is jag meh aaiaa jaiee ||
O Dear One, what should I ask of You? Nothing appears permanent; whoever comes into this world shall depart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕੰਠਿ ਬਣਾਈ ॥੮॥੩॥
naanak naam padhaarath dheejai hiradhai ka(n)Th banaiee ||8||3||
Bless Nanak with the wealth of the Naam, to adorn his heart and neck. ||8||3||
ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Goojaree, First Mehla:
ਐ ਜੀ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਉਤਮ ਨੀਚ ਨ ਮਧਿਮ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਗ ॥
aai jee naa ham utam neech na madhim har saranaagat har ke log ||
O Dear One, I am not high or low or in the middle. I am the Lord's slave, and I seek the Lord's Sanctuary.
ਨਾਮ ਰਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸੋਗ ਬਿਜੋਗ ਬਿਸਰਜਿਤ ਰੋਗ ॥੧॥
naam rate keval bairaagee sog bijog bisarajit rog ||1||
Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I am detached from the world; I have forgotten sorrow, separation and disease. ||1||
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀ ॥
