ਜਿਚਰੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੰਮੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਈ ਕਿ ਕਰੇਗੁ ਅਗੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
jichar vich dha(n)m hai tichar na chetiee k kareg agai jai ||
As long as there is breath in the body, he does not remember the Lord; what will he do in the world hereafter?
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਚੇਤੰਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
giaanee hoi su cheta(n)n hoi agiaanee a(n)dh kamai ||
One who remembers the Lord is a spiritual teacher; the ignorant one acts blindly.
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਥੈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਅਗੈ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak ethai kamaavai so milai agai paae jai ||1||
O Nanak, whatever one does in this world, determines what he shall receive in the world hereafter. ||1||

Third Mehla:
ਧੁਰਿ ਖਸਮੈ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਇਆ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚੇਤਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
dhur khasamai kaa hukam piaa vin satigur chetiaa na jai ||
From the very beginning, it has been the Will of the Lord Master, that He cannot be remembered without the True Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
satigur miliaai a(n)tar rav rahiaa sadhaa rahiaa liv lai ||
Meeting the True Guru, he realizes that the Lord is permeating and pervading deep within him; he remains forever absorbed in the Lord's Love.
ਦਮਿ ਦਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਦਾ ਦੰਮੁ ਨ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
dham dham sadhaa samaaladhaa dha(n)m na birathaa jai ||
With each and every breath, he constantly remembers the Lord in meditation; not a single breath passes in vain.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਗਇਆ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
janam maran kaa bhau giaa jeevan padhavee pai ||
His fears of birth and death depart, and he obtains the honored state of eternal life.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਮਰਤਬਾ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak ih maratabaa tis no dhei jis no kirapaa kare rajai ||2||
O Nanak, He bestows this rank upon that mortal, upon whom He showers His Mercy. ||2||

Pauree:
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਨਾਂ ਬੀਨਿਆ ਆਪੇ ਪਰਧਾਨਾਂ ॥
aape dhaanaa(n) beeniaa aape paradhaanaa(n) ||
He Himself is all-wise and all-knowing; He Himself is supreme.
ਆਪੇ ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਲਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇ ਧਿਆਨਾਂ ॥
aape roop dhikhaaladhaa aape lai dhiaanaa(n) ||
He Himself reveals His form, and He Himself enjoins us to His meditation.
ਆਪੇ ਮੋਨੀ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਕਥੈ ਗਿਆਨਾਂ ॥
aape monee varatadhaa aape kathai giaanaa(n) ||
He Himself poses as a silent sage, and He Himself speaks spiritual wisdom.
ਕਉੜਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਸਭਨਾ ਹੀ ਭਾਨਾ ॥
kauRaa kisai na lagiee sabhanaa hee bhaanaa ||
He does not seem bitter to anyone; He is pleasing to all.
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਐ ਸਦ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੧੯॥
ausatat baran na sakeeaai sadh sadh kurabaanaa ||19||
His Praises cannot be described; forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to Him. ||19||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Shalok, First Mehla:
ਕਲੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਉਤਾਰੁ ॥
kalee a(n)dhar naanakaa ji(n)naa(n) dhaa aautaar ||
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, O Nanak, the demons have taken birth.
ਪੁਤੁ ਜਿਨੂਰਾ ਧੀਅ ਜਿੰਨੂਰੀ ਜੋਰੂ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
put jinooraa dheea ji(n)nooree joroo ji(n)naa dhaa sikadhaar ||1||
The son is a demon, and the daughter is a demon; the wife is the chief of the demons. ||1||

First Mehla:
ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੂਲੇ ਭੂਲੇ ਅਖੁਟੀ ਜਾਂਹੀ ॥
hi(n)dhoo moole bhoole akhuTee jaa(n)hee ||
The Hindus have forgotten the Primal Lord; they are going the wrong way.
ਨਾਰਦਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਿ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਂਹੀ ॥ ਅੰਧੇ ਗੁੰਗੇ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥
naaradh kahiaa s pooj karaa(n)hee || a(n)dhe gu(n)ge a(n)dh a(n)dhaar ||
As Naarad instructed them, they are worshipping idols. They are blind and mute, the blindest of the blind.
ਪਾਥਰੁ ਲੇ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
paathar le poojeh mugadh gavaar ||
The ignorant fools pick up stones and worship them.
ਓਹਿ ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਤੁਮ ਕਹਾ ਤਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
oh jaa aap ddube tum kahaa taranahaar ||2||
But when those stones themselves sink, who will carry you across? ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਹੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਤੂ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥
sabh kih terai vas hai too sachaa saahu ||
Everything is in Your power; You are the True King.
ਭਗਤ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਏਕ ਕੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥
bhagat rate ra(n)g ek kai pooraa vesaahu ||
The devotees are imbued with the Love of the One Lord; they have perfect faith in Him.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਜਿ ਰਜਿ ਜਨ ਖਾਹੁ ॥
a(n)mrit bhojan naam har raj raj jan khaahu ||
The Name of the Lord is the ambrosial food; His humble servants eat their fill.
ਸਭਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਾਈਅਨਿ ਸਿਮਰਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਹੁ ॥
sabh padhaarath paieean simaran sach laahu ||
All treasures are obtained - meditative remembrance on the Lord is the true profit.
ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਹੁ ॥੨੦॥
sa(n)t piaare paarabraham naanak har agam agaahu ||20||
The Saints are very dear to the Supreme Lord God, O Nanak; the Lord is unapproachable and unfathomable. ||20||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Shalok, Third Mehla:
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਵਦਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਾਇ ॥
sabh kichh hukame aavadhaa sabh kichh hukame jai ||
Everything comes by the Lord's Will, and everything goes by the Lord's Will.
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਆਪਹੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
je ko moorakh aapahu jaanai a(n)dhaa a(n)dh kamai ||
If some fool believes that he is the creator, he is blind, and acts in blindness.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak hukam ko gurmukh bujhai jis no kirapaa kare rajai ||1||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh understands the Hukam of the Lord's Command; the Lord showers His Mercy upon him. ||1||

Third Mehla:
ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
so jogee jugat so paae jis no gurmukh naam paraapat hoi ||
He alone is a Yogi, and he alone finds the Way, who, as Gurmukh, obtains the Naam.
ਤਿਸੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਕੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਵਸੈ ਭੇਖੀ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
tis jogee kee nagaree sabh ko vasai bhekhee jog na hoi ||
In the body-village of that Yogi are all blessings; this Yoga is not obtained by outward show.
ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸਾ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਘਟਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak aaisaa viralaa ko jogee jis ghaT paragaT hoi ||2||
O Nanak, such a Yogi is very rare; the Lord is manifest in his heart. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
aape ja(n)t upaian aape aadhaar ||
He Himself created the creatures, and He Himself supports them.
ਆਪੇ ਸੂਖਮੁ ਭਾਲੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ॥
aape sookham bhaaleeaai aape paasaar ||
He Himself is seen to be subtle, and He Himself is obvious.
ਆਪਿ ਇਕਾਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਵਡ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ॥
aap ikaatee hoi rahai aape vadd paravaar ||
He Himself remains a solitary recluse, and He Himself has a huge family.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਾ ਰੇਨਾਰੁ ॥
naanak ma(n)gai dhaan har sa(n)taa renaar ||
Nanak asks for the gift of the dust of the feet of the Saints of the Lord.
ਹੋਰੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਤੂ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨੧॥੧॥ ਸੁਧੁ ॥

I cannot see any other Giver; You alone are the Giver, O Lord. ||21||1|| Sudh||
