ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
maiaa moh a(n)tar mal laagai maiaa ke vaapaaraa raam ||
The filth of attachment to Maya clings to their hearts; they deal in Maya alone.
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਜਗਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਵਣਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
maiaa ke vaapaaraa jagat piaaraa aavan jaan dhukh paiee ||
They love to deal in Maya in this world; coming and going, they suffer in pain.
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਾ ਬਿਸ੍ਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
bikh kaa keeRaa bikh siau laagaa bisaTaa maeh samaiee ||
The worm of poison is addicted to poison; it is immersed in manure.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਇ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
jo dhur likhiaa soi kamaavai koi na meTanahaaraa ||
He does what is pre-ordained for him; no one can erase his destiny.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਰਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੂਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
naanak naam rate tin sadhaa sukh paiaa hor moorakh kook mue gaavaaraa ||3||
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, lasting peace is found; the ignorant fools die screaming. ||3||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
maiaa moh man ra(n)giaa moh sudh na kaiee raam ||
Their minds are colored by emotional attachment to Maya; because of this emotional attachment, they do not understand.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗੀਐ ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
gurmukh ih man ra(n)geeaai dhoojaa ra(n)g jaiee raam ||
The soul of the Gurmukh is imbued with the Lord's Love; the love of duality departs.
ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਾਈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਸਚਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
dhoojaa ra(n)g jaiee saach samaiee sach bhare bha(n)ddaaraa ||
The love of duality departs, and the soul merges in Truth; the warehouse is overflowing with Truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
gurmukh hovai soiee boojhai sach savaaranahaaraa ||
One who becomes Gurmukh, comes to understand; the Lord embellishes him with Truth.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥
aape mele so har milai hor kahanaa kichhoo na jaae ||
He alone merges with the Lord, whom the Lord causes to merge; nothing else can be said or done.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਇਕਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੪॥੫॥
naanak vin naavai bharam bhulaiaa ik naam rate ra(n)g laae ||4||5||
O Nanak, without the Name, one is deluded by doubt; but some, imbued with the Name, enshrine love for the Lord. ||4||5||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
vaddaha(n)s mahalaa teejaa ||
Wadahans, Third Mehla:
ਏ ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਚਿ ਨਿਬੇੜਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
e man meriaa aavaa gaun sa(n)saar hai a(n)t sach nibeRaa raam ||
O my mind, the world comes and goes in birth and death; only the True Name shall emancipate you in the end.
ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਫੇਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
aape sachaa bakhas le fir hoi na feraa raam ||
When the True Lord Himself grants forgiveness, then one does not have to enter the cycle of reincarnation again.
ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਫੇਰਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਚਿ ਨਿਬੇੜਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
fir hoi na feraa a(n)t sach nibeRaa gurmukh milai vaddiaaiee ||
He does not have to enter the cycle of reincarnation again, and he is emancipated in the end; as Gurmukh, he obtains glorious greatness.
ਸਾਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
saachai ra(n)g raate sahaje maate sahaje rahe samaiee ||
Imbued with love for the True Lord, he is intoxicated with celestial bliss, and he remains absorbed in the Celestial Lord.
ਸਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥
sachaa man bhaiaa sach vasaiaa sabadh rate a(n)t niberaa ||
The True Lord is pleasing to his mind; he enshrines the True Lord in his mind; attuned to the Word of the Shabad, he is emancipated in the end.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਭਵਜਲਿ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੧॥
naanak naam rate se sach samaane bahur na bhavajal feraa ||1||
O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam, merge in the True Lord; they are not cast into the terrifying world-ocean again. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਬਰਲੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
maiaa moh sabh baral hai dhoojai bhai khuaaiee raam ||
Emotional attachment to Maya is total madness; through the love of duality, one is ruined.
ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਹੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਹੇਤੇ ਪਲਚਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
maataa pitaa sabh het hai hete palachaiee raam ||
Mother and father - all are subject to this love; in this love, they are entangled.
ਹੇਤੇ ਪਲਚਾਈ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਈ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
hete palachaiee purab kamaiee meT na sakai koiee ||
They are entangled in this love, on account of their past actions, which no one can erase.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
jin sirasaT saajee so kar vekhai tis jevadd avar na koiee ||
The One who created the Universe, beholds it; no other is as great as He.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧਾ ਤਪਿ ਤਪਿ ਖਪੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥
manmukh a(n)dhaa tap tap khapai bin sabadhai saa(n)t na aaiee ||
The blind, self-willed manmukh is consumed by his burning rage; without the Word of the Shabad, peace is not obtained.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਭੁਲਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਈ ॥੨॥
naanak bin naavai sabh koiee bhulaa maiaa moh khuaaiee ||2||
O Nanak, without the Name, everyone is deluded, ruined by emotional attachment to Maya. ||2||
ਏਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਲਤਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
eh jag jalataa dhekh kai bhaj pe har saranaiee raam ||
Seeing that this world on fire, I have hurried to the Sanctuary of the Lord.
ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਕਰਂੀ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਆਗੈ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
aradhaas kara(n)ee gur poore aagai rakh levahu dheh vaddaiee raam ||
I offer my prayer to the Perfect Guru: please save me, and bless me with Your glorious greatness.
ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
rakh levahu saranaiee har naam vaddaiee tudh jevadd avar na dhaataa ||
Preserve me in Your Sanctuary, and bless me with the glorious greatness of the Name of the Lord; there is no other Giver as great as You.
ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
sevaa laage se vaddabhaage jug jug eko jaataa ||
Those who are engaged in serving You are very fortunate; throughout the ages, they know the One Lord.
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
jat sat sa(n)jam karam kamaavai bin gur gat nahee paiee ||
You may practice celibacy, truth, austere self-discipline and rituals, but without the Guru, you shall not be emancipated.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਜੋ ਜਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੩॥
naanak tis no sabadh bujhaae jo jai pavai har saranaiee ||3||
O Nanak, he alone understands the Word of the Shabad, who goes and seeks the Lord's Sanctuary. ||3||
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਸਾ ਊਪਜੈ ਹੋਰ ਮਤਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
jo har mat dhei saa uoopajai hor mat na kaiee raam ||
That understanding, imparted by the Lord, wells up; there is no other understanding.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
a(n)tar baahar ek too aape dheh bujhaiee raam ||
Deep within, and beyond as well, You alone are, O Lord; You Yourself impart this understanding.
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥
aape dheh bujhaiee avar na bhaiee gurmukh har ras chaakhiaa ||
One whom He Himself blesses with this understanding, does not love any other. As Gurmukh, he tastes the subtle essence of the Lord.
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥
dhar saachai sadhaa hai saachaa saachai sabadh subhaakhiaa ||
In the True Court, he is forever True; with love, he chants the True Word of the Shabad.
