ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
so satigur tin kau bheTiaa jin kai mukh masatak bhaag likh paiaa ||7||
The True Guru meets with those upon whose foreheads such blessed destiny is recorded. ||7||

Shalok, Third Mehla:
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਮਰਜੀਵੜੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhagat kareh marajeevaRe gurmukh bhagat sadhaa hoi ||
They alone worship the Lord, who remain dead while yet alive; the Gurmukhs worship the Lord continually.
ਓਨਾ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
onaa kau dhur bhagat khajaanaa bakhasiaa meT na sakai koi ||
The Lord blesses them with the treasure of devotional worship, which no one can destroy.
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਏਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
gun nidhaan man paiaa eko sachaa soi ||
They obtain the treasure of virtue, the One True Lord, within their minds.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak gurmukh mil rahe fir vichhoRaa kadhe na hoi ||1||
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs remain united with the Lord; they shall never be separated again. ||1||

Third Mehla:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਕੀਨੀਆ ਕਿਆ ਓਹੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
satigur kee sev na keeneeaa kiaa oh kare veechaar ||
He does not serve the True Guru; how can he reflect upon the Lord?
ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਬਿਖੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
sabadhai saar na jaaniee bikh bhoolaa gaavaar ||
He does not appreciate the value of the Shabad; the fool wanders in corruption and sin.
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
agiaanee a(n)dh bahu karam kamaavai dhoojai bhai piaar ||
The blind and ignorant perform all sorts of ritualistic actions; they are in love with duality.
ਅਣਹੋਦਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਇਦੇ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
anahodhaa aap ganaidhe jam maar kare tin khuaar ||
Those who take unjustified pride in themselves, are punished and humiliated by the Messenger of Death.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
naanak kis no aakheeaai jaa aape bakhasanahaar ||2||
O Nanak, who else is there to ask? The Lord Himself is the Forgiver. ||2||

Pauree:
ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸਭਿ ਜੀਅ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
too karataa sabh kichh jaanadhaa sabh jeea tumaare ||
You, O Creator, know all things; all beings belong to You.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥
jis too bhaavai tis too mel laih kiaa ja(n)t vichaare ||
Those who are pleasing to You, You unite with Yourself; what can the poor creatures do?
ਤੂ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੇ ॥
too karan kaaran samarath hai sach sirajanahaare ||
You are all-powerful, the Cause of causes, the True Creator Lord.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਸੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
jis too meleh piaariaa so tudh milai gurmukh veechaare ||
Only those unite with you, Beloved Lord, whom you approve and who meditate on Guru's Word.
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਰੇ ॥੮॥
hau balihaaree satigur aapane jin meraa har alakh lakhaare ||8||
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru, who has allowed me to see my unseen Lord. ||8||

Shalok, Third Mehla:
ਰਤਨਾ ਪਾਰਖੁ ਜੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਰਤਨਾ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
ratanaa paarakh jo hovai su ratanaa kare veechaar ||
He is the Assayer of jewels; He contemplates the jewel.
ਰਤਨਾ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥
ratanaa saar na jaaniee agiaanee a(n)dh a(n)dhaar ||
He is ignorant and totally blind - he does not appreciate the value of the jewel.
ਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਬੂਝਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
ratan guroo kaa sabadh hai boojhai boojhanahaar ||
The Jewel is the Word of the Guru's Shabad; the Knower alone knows it.
ਮੂਰਖ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਇਦੇ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
moorakh aap ganaidhe mar ja(n)meh hoi khuaar ||
The fools take pride in themselves, and are ruined in birth and death.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤਨਾ ਸੋ ਲਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
naanak ratanaa so lahai jis gurmukh lagai piaar ||
O Nanak, he alone obtains the jewel, who, as Gurmukh, enshrines love for it.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਿਤ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥
sadhaa sadhaa naam ucharai har naamo nit biauhaar ||
Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, forever and ever, make the Name of the Lord your daily occupation.
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
kirapaa kare je aapanee taa har rakhaa ur dhaar ||1||
If the Lord shows His Mercy, then I keep Him enshrined within my heart. ||1||

Third Mehla:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਕੀਨੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
satigur kee sev na keeneeaa har naam na lago piaar ||
They do not serve the True Guru, and they do not embrace love for the Lord's Name.
ਮਤ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਓਇ ਜੀਵਦੇ ਓਇ ਆਪਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
mat tum jaanahu oi jeevadhe oi aap maare karataar ||
Do not even think that they are alive - the Creator Lord Himself has killed them.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਡਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੂਜੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
haumai vaddaa rog hai bhai dhoojai karam kamai ||
Egotism is such a terrible disease; in the love of duality, they do their deeds.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮੁਏ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak manmukh jeevadhiaa mue har visariaa dhukh pai ||2||
O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs are in a living death; forgetting the Lord, they suffer in pain. ||2||

Pauree:
ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੁਧੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਸਭਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੀ ॥
jis a(n)tar hiradhaa sudh hai tis jan kau sabh namasakaaree ||
Let all bow in reverence, to that humble being whose heart is pure within.
ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
jis a(n)dhar naam nidhaan hai tis jan kau hau balihaaree ||
I am a sacrifice to that humble being whose mind is filled with the treasure of the Naam.
ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥
jis a(n)dhar budh bibek hai har naam muraaree ||
He has a discriminating intellect; he meditates on the Name of the Lord.
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਮਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
so satigur sabhanaa kaa mit hai sabh tiseh piaaree ||
That True Guru is a friend to all; everyone is dear to Him.
ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਬੁਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੯॥
sabh aatam raam pasaariaa gur budh beechaaree ||9||
The Lord, the Supreme Soul, is pervading everywhere; reflect upon the wisdom of the Guru's Teachings. ||9||

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
bin satigur seve jeea ke ba(n)dhanaa vich haumai karam kamaeh ||
Without serving the True Guru, the soul is in the bondage of deeds done in ego.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
bin satigur seve Thaur na paavahee mar ja(n)meh aaveh jaeh ||
Without serving the True Guru, one finds no place of rest; he dies, and is reincarnated, and continues coming and going.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
bin satigur seve fikaa bolanaa naam na vasai man maeh ||
Without serving the True Guru, one's speech is vapid and insipid; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, does not abide in his mind.
