ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehla:
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਕੀਤੀ ਪੂਰੀ ॥
gur poorai keetee pooree ||
The Perfect Guru has made me perfect.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੀ ॥
prabh rav rahiaa bharapooree ||
God is totally pervading and permeating everywhere.
ਖੇਮ ਕੁਸਲ ਭਇਆ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ॥
khem kusal bhiaa isanaanaa ||
With joy and pleasure, I take my purifying bath.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
paarabraham viTahu kurabaanaa ||1||
I am a sacrifice to the Supreme Lord God. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਵਲ ਰਿਦ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
gur ke charan kaval ridh dhaare ||
I enshrine the lotus feet of the Guru within my heart.
ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਿਲ ਕਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਗਲ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bighan na laagai til kaa koiee kaaraj sagal savaare ||1|| rahaau ||
Not even the tiniest obstacle blocks my way; all my affairs are resolved. ||1||Pause||
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਏ ॥
mil saadhoo dhuramat khoe ||
Meeting with the Holy Saints, my evil-mindedness was eradicated.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਸਭ ਹੋਏ ॥
patit puneet sabh hoe ||
All the sinners are purified.
ਰਾਮਦਾਸਿ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਨਾਤੇ ॥
raamadhaas sarovar naate ||
Bathing in the sacred pool of Guru Ram Das,
ਸਭ ਲਾਥੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਤੇ ॥੨॥
sabh laathe paap kamaate ||2||
all the sins one has committed are washed away. ||2||
ਗੁਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
gun gobi(n)dh nit gaieeaai ||
So sing forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe;
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
saadhasa(n)g mil dhiaaieeaai ||
joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, meditate on Him.
ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ॥
man baa(n)chhat fal paae ||
The fruits of your mind's desires are obtained
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੩॥
gur pooraa ridhai dhiaae ||3||
by meditating on the Perfect Guru within your heart. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਆਨੰਦਾ ॥
gur gopaal aana(n)dhaa ||
The Guru, the Lord of the World, is blissful;
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥
jap jap jeevai paramaana(n)dhaa ||
chanting, meditating on the Lord of supreme bliss, He lives.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
jan naanak naam dhiaaiaa ||
Servant Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਰਖਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੬੦॥
prabh apanaa biradh rakhaiaa ||4||10||60||
God has confirmed His innate nature. ||4||10||60||

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehla:
ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਮੇਘ ਘਟਾ ਘਟ ਦਾਮਨਿ ਚਮਕਿ ਡਰਾਇਓ ॥
dheh dhis chhatr megh ghaTaa ghaT dhaaman chamak ddaraio ||
In the ten directions, the clouds cover the sky like a canopy; through the dark clouds, lightning flashes, and I am terrified.
ਸੇਜ ਇਕੇਲੀ ਨੀਦ ਨਹੁ ਨੈਨਹ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਰਦੇਸਿ ਸਿਧਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
sej ikelee needh nahu naineh pir paradhes sidhaio ||1||
By bed is empty, and my eyes are sleepless; my Husband Lord has gone far away. ||1||
ਹੁਣਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਦੇਸਰੋ ਮਾਇਓ ॥
hun nahee sa(n)dhesaro maio ||
Now, I receive no messages from Him, O mother!
ਏਕ ਕੋਸਰੋ ਸਿਧਿ ਕਰਤ ਲਾਲੁ ਤਬ ਚਤੁਰ ਪਾਤਰੋ ਆਇਓ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ek kosaro sidh karat laal tab chatur paataro aaio || rahaau ||
When my Beloved used to go even a mile away, He would send me four letters. ||Pause||
ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਇਹੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਪਿਆਰੋ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਓ ॥
kiau bisarai ih laal piaaro sarab gunaa sukhadhaio ||
How could I forget this Dear Beloved of mine? He is the Giver of peace, and all virtues.
ਮੰਦਰਿ ਚਰਿ ਕੈ ਪੰਥੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਉ ਨੈਨ ਨੀਰਿ ਭਰਿ ਆਇਓ ॥੨॥
ma(n)dhar char kai pa(n)th nihaarau nain neer bhar aaio ||2||
Ascending to His Mansion, I gaze upon His path, and my eyes are filled with tears. ||2||
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਭੀਤਿ ਭਇਓ ਹੈ ਬੀਚੋ ਸੁਨਤ ਦੇਸਿ ਨਿਕਟਾਇਓ ॥
hau hau bheet bhio hai beecho sunat dhes nikaTaio ||
The wall of egotism and pride separates us, but I can hear Him nearby.
ਭਾਂਭੀਰੀ ਕੇ ਪਾਤ ਪਰਦੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੇਖੇ ਦੂਰਾਇਓ ॥੩॥
bhaa(n)bheeree ke paat paradho bin pekhe dhooraio ||3||
There is a veil between us, like the wings of a butterfly; without being able to see Him, He seems so far away. ||3||
ਭਇਓ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਗਰੋ ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਓ ॥
bhio kirapaal sarab ko Thaakur sagaro dhookh miTaio ||
The Lord and Master of all has become merciful; He has dispelled all my sufferings.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਭੀਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਈ ਤਉ ਦਇਆਰੁ ਬੀਠਲੋ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੪॥
kahu naanak haumai bheet gur khoiee tau dhiaar beeThalo paio ||4||
Says Nanak, when the Guru tore down the wall of egotism, then, I found my Merciful Lord and Master. ||4||
ਸਭੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਅੰਦੇਸਰੋ ਮਾਇਓ ॥
sabh rahio a(n)dhesaro maio ||
All my fears have been dispelled, O mother!
ਜੋ ਚਾਹਤ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਓ ॥
jo chaahat so guroo milaio ||
Whoever I seek, the Guru leads me to find.
ਸਰਬ ਗੁਨਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਾਇਓ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧੧॥੬੧॥
sarab gunaa nidh raio || rahaau dhoojaa ||11||61||
The Lord, our King, is the treasure of all virtue. ||Second Pause||11||61||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehla:
ਗਈ ਬਹੋੜੁ ਬੰਦੀ ਛੋੜੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਦੁਖਦਾਰੀ ॥
giee bahoR ba(n)dhee chhoR nira(n)kaar dhukhadhaaree ||
The Restorer of what was taken away, the Liberator from captivity; the Formless Lord, the Destroyer of pain.
ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਲੋਭੀ ਮਾਇਆਧਾਰੀ ॥
karam na jaanaa dharam na jaanaa lobhee maiaadhaaree ||
I do not know about karma and good deeds; I do not know about Dharma and righteous living. I am so greedy, chasing after Maya.
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਭਗਤੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਕਾ ਇਹ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪੈਜ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
naam pario bhagat govi(n)dh kaa ieh raakhahu paij tumaaree ||1||
I go by the name of God's devotee; please, save this honor of Yours. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਤੂ ਮਾਣੁ ॥
har jeeau nimaaniaa too maan ||
O Dear Lord, You are the honor of the dishonored.
ਨਿਚੀਜਿਆ ਚੀਜ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nicheejiaa cheej kare meraa govi(n)dh teree kudharat kau kurabaan || rahaau ||
You make the unworthy ones worthy, O my Lord of the Universe; I am a sacrifice to Your almighty creative power. ||Pause||
ਜੈਸਾ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਲਖ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
jaisaa baalak bhai subhaiee lakh aparaadh kamaavai ||
Like the child, innocently making thousands of mistakes
ਕਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਝਿੜਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
kar upadhes jhiRake bahu bhaatee bahuR pitaa gal laavai ||
his father teaches him, and scolds him so many times, but still, he hugs him close in his embrace.
ਪਿਛਲੇ ਅਉਗੁਣ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਗੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
pichhale aaugun bakhas le prabh aagai maarag paavai ||2||
Please forgive my past actions, God, and place me on Your path for the future. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
har a(n)tarajaamee sabh bidh jaanai taa kis peh aakh sunaieeaai ||
The Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, knows all about my state of mind; so who else should I go to and speak to?
ਕਹਣੈ ਕਥਨਿ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈਐ ॥
kahanai kathan na bheejai gobi(n)dh har bhaavai paij rakhaieeaai ||
The Lord, the Lord of the Universe, is not pleased by mere recitation of words; if it is pleasing to His Will, He preserves our honor.
ਅਵਰ ਓਟ ਮੈ ਸਗਲੀ ਦੇਖੀ ਇਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਰਹਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
avar oT mai sagalee dhekhee ik teree oT rahaieeaai ||3||
I have seen all other shelters, but Yours alone remains for me. ||3||
