ਪਿਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
pir kee saar na jaaniee dhoojai bhai piaar ||
She does not know the value of her Husband Lord; she is attached to the love of duality.
ਸਾ ਕੁਸੁਧ ਸਾ ਕੁਲਖਣੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਰੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਕੁਨਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
saa kusudh saa kulakhanee naanak naaree vich kunaar ||2||
She is impure, and ill-mannered, O Nanak; among women, she is the most evil woman. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਪਣੀ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੀ ਬੈਣੀ ॥
har har apanee dhiaa kar har bolee bainee ||
Be kind to me, Lord, that I might chant the Word of Your Bani.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਉਚਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈਣੀ ॥
har naam dhiaaiee har ucharaa har laahaa lainee ||
May I meditate on the Lord's Name, chant the Lord's Name, and obtain the profit of the Lord's Name.
ਜੋ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਤਿਨ ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬੈਣੀ ॥
jo japadhe har har dhinas raat tin hau kurabainee ||
I am a sacrifice to those who chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, day and night.
ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਦੇਖਾ ਨੈਣੀ ॥
jinaa satigur meraa piaaraa araadhiaa tin jan dhekhaa nainee ||
May I behold with my eyes those who worship and adore my Beloved True Guru.
ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਅਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਮੇਲਿਆ ਸੈਣੀ ॥੨੪॥
hau vaariaa apane guroo kau jin meraa har sajan meliaa sainee ||24||
I am a sacrifice to my Guru, who has united me with my Lord, my friend, my very best friend. ||24||

Shalok, Fourth Mehla:
ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਮਿਤੁ ॥
har dhaasan siau preet hai har dhaasan ko mit ||
The Lord loves His slaves; the Lord is the friend of His slaves.
ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਜਿਉ ਜੰਤੀ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਜੰਤੁ ॥
har dhaasan kai vas hai jiau ja(n)tee kai vas ja(n)t ||
The Lord is under the control of His slaves, like the musical instrument under the control of the musician.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ॥
har ke dhaas har dhiaaidhe kar preetam siau neh ||
The Lord's slaves meditate on the Lord; they love their Beloved.
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਸੈ ਮੇਹੁ ॥
kirapaa kar kai sunahu prabh sabh jag meh varasai meh ||
Please, hear me, O God - let Your Grace rain over the whole world.
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jo har dhaasan kee usatat hai saa har kee vaddiaaiee ||
The praise of the Lord's slaves is the Glory of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਭਾਵਦੀ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਾਈ ॥
har aapanee vaddiaaiee bhaavadhee jan kaa jaikaar karaiee ||
The Lord loves His Own Glory, and so His humble servant is celebrated and hailed.
ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥
so har jan naam dhiaaidhaa har har jan ik samaan ||
That humble servant of the Lord meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Lord, and the Lord's humble servant, are one and the same.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਹੁ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੧॥
jan naanak har kaa dhaas hai har paij rakhahu bhagavaan ||1||
Servant Nanak is the slave of the Lord; O Lord, O God, please, preserve his honor. ||1||

Fourth Mehla:
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਈ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
naanak preet laiee tin saachai tis bin rahan na jaiee ||
Nanak loves the True Lord; without Him, he cannot even survive.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਈ ॥੨॥
satigur milai ta pooraa paieeaai har ras rasan rasaiee ||2||
Meeting the True Guru, one finds the Perfect Lord, and the tongue enjoys the sublime essence of the Lord. ||2||

ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਪਰਭਾਤਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਹੀ ਗਾਵਣਾ ॥
rain dhinas parabhaat toohai hee gaavanaa ||
Night and day, morning and night, I sing to You, Lord.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਰਬਤ ਨਾਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਿਆਵਣਾ ॥
jeea ja(n)t sarabat naau teraa dhiaavanaa ||
All beings and creatures meditate on Your Name.
ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਖਾਵਣਾ ॥
too dhaataa dhaataar teraa dhitaa khaavanaa ||
You are the Giver, the Great Giver; we eat whatever You give us.
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਪ ਗਵਾਵਣਾ ॥
bhagat janaa kai sa(n)g paap gavaavanaa ||
In the congregation of the devotees, sins are eradicated.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵਣਾ ॥੨੫॥
jan naanak sadh balihaarai bal bal jaavanaa ||25||
Servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice, O Lord. ||25||
ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੪ ॥

Shalok, Fourth Mehla:
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਮਧਿਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
a(n)tar agiaan bhiee mat madhim satigur kee parateet naahee ||
He has spiritual ignorance within, and his intellect is dull and dim; he does not place his faith in the True Guru.
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਪਟੋ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਪਟੇ ਖਪਹਿ ਖਪਾਹੀ ॥
a(n)dhar kapaT sabh kapaTo kar jaanai kapaTe khapeh khapaahee ||
He has deceit within himself, and so he sees deception in all others; through his deceptions, he is totally ruined.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਆਪਣੈ ਸੁਆਇ ਫਿਰਾਹੀ ॥
satigur kaa bhaanaa chit na aavai aapanai suaai firaahee ||
The True Guru's Will does not enter into his consciousness, and so he wanders around, pursuing his own interests.
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
kirapaa kare je aapanee taa naanak sabadh samaahee ||1||
If He grants His Grace, then Nanak is absorbed into the Word of the Shabad. ||1||

Fourth Mehla:
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮਨੂਆ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
manmukh maiaa moh viaape dhoojai bhai manooaa thir naeh ||
The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya; in the love of duality, their minds are unsteady.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਖਪਹਿ ਖਪਾਹਿ ॥
anadhin jalat raheh dhin raatee haumai khapeh khapaeh ||
Night and day, they are burning; day and night, they are totally ruined by their egotism.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
a(n)tar lobh mahaa gubaaraa tin kai nikaT na koiee jaeh ||
Within them, is the total pitch darkness of greed, and no one even approaches them.
ਓਇ ਆਪਿ ਦੁਖੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
oi aap dhukhee sukh kabahoo na paaveh janam mareh mar jaeh ||
They themselves are miserable, and they never find peace; they are born, only to die, and die again.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
naanak bakhas le prabh saachaa j gur charanee chit laeh ||2||
O Nanak, the True Lord God forgives those, who focus their consciousness on the Guru's feet. ||2||

ਸੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
sa(n)t bhagat paravaan jo prabh bhaiaa ||
That Saint, that devotee, is acceptable, who is loved by God.
ਸੇਈ ਬਿਚਖਣ ਜੰਤ ਜਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
seiee bichakhan ja(n)t jinee har dhiaaiaa ||
Those beings are wise, who meditate on the Lord.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
a(n)mrit naam nidhaan bhojan khaiaa ||
They eat the food, the treasure of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
sa(n)t janaa kee dhoor masatak laiaa ||
They apply the dust of the feet of the Saints to their foreheads.
