dhanaasaree mahalaa panjavaa ||
Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਅਉਖੀ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਦੇਖਣ ਦੇਈ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
aaukhee ghaRee na dhekhan dheiee apanaa biradh samaale ||
He does not let His devotees see the difficult times; this is His innate nature.
ਹਾਥ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੇ ॥੧॥
haath dhei raakhai apane kau saas saas pratipaale ||1||
Giving His hand, He protects His devotee; with each and every breath, He cherishes him. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
prabh siau laag rahio meraa cheet ||
My consciousness remains attached to God.
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਧੰਨੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aadh a(n)t prabh sadhaa sahaiee dha(n)n hamaaraa meet || rahaau ||
In the beginning, and in the end, God is always my helper and companion; blessed is my friend. ||Pause||
ਮਨਿ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਭਏ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਡਾਈ ॥
man bilaas bhe saahib ke acharaj dhekh baddaiee ||
My mind is delighted, gazing upon the marvellous, glorious greatness of the Lord and Master.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਆਨਦ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ॥੨॥੧੫॥੪੬॥
har simar simar aanadh kar naanak prabh pooran paij rakhaiee ||2||15||46||
Remembering, remembering the Lord in meditation, Nanak is in ecstasy; God, in His perfection, has protected and preserved his honor. ||2||15||46||

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋਈ ਗਨਹੁ ਅਭਾਗਾ ॥
jis kau bisarai praanapat dhaataa soiee ganahu abhaagaa ||
One who forgets the Lord of life, the Great Giver - know that he is most unfortunate.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਗਿਓ ਅਮਿਅ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਪਾਗਾ ॥੧॥
charan kamal jaa kaa man raagio amia sarovar paagaa ||1||
One whose mind is in love with the Lord's lotus feet, obtains the pool of ambrosial nectar. ||1||
ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਜਾਗਾ ॥
teraa jan raam naam ra(n)g jaagaa ||
Your humble servant awakes in the Love of the Lord's Name.
ਆਲਸੁ ਛੀਜਿ ਗਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aalas chheej giaa sabh tan te preetam siau man laagaa || rahaau ||
All laziness has departed from his body, and his mind is attached to the Beloved Lord. ||Pause||
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਪੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਮਹਿ ਤਾਗਾ ॥
jeh jeh pekhau teh naarain sagal ghaTaa meh taagaa ||
Wherever I look, the Lord is there; He is the string, upon which all hearts are strung.
ਨਾਮ ਉਦਕੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਆਗੇ ਸਭਿ ਅਨੁਰਾਗਾ ॥੨॥੧੬॥੪੭॥
naam udhak peevat jan naanak tiaage sabh anuraagaa ||2||16||47||
Drinking in the water of the Naam, servant Nanak has renounced all other loves. ||2||16||47||

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਨ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਏ ਕਾਮ ॥
jan ke pooran hoe kaam ||
All the affairs of the Lord's humble servant are perfectly resolved.
ਕਲੀ ਕਾਲ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਲਜਾ ਰਾਖੀ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kalee kaal mahaa bikhiaa meh lajaa raakhee raam ||1|| rahaau ||
In the utterly poisonous Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Lord preserves and protects his honor. ||1||Pause||
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਮ ॥
simar simar suaamee prabh apunaa nikaT na aavai jaam ||
Remembering, remembering God, his Lord and Master in meditation, the Messenger of Death does not approach him.
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਧਾਮ ॥੧॥
mukat baiku(n)Th saadh kee sa(n)gat jan paio har kaa dhaam ||1||
Liberation and heaven are found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; his humble servant finds the home of the Lord. ||1||
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਥਾਤੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਖ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
charan kamal har jan kee thaatee koT sookh bisraam ||
The Lord's lotus feet are the treasure of His humble servant; in them, he finds millions of pleasures and comforts.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਦਿਨ ਰੈਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ॥੨॥੧੭॥੪੮॥
gobi(n)dh dhamodhar simarau dhin rain naanak sadh kurabaan ||2||17||48||
He remembers the Lord God in meditation, day and night; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to him. ||2||17||48||

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਮਾਂਗਉ ਰਾਮ ਤੇ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
maa(n)gau raam te ik dhaan ||
I beg for one gift only from the Lord.
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal manorath pooran hoveh simarau tumaraa naam ||1|| rahaau ||
May all my desires be fulfilled, meditating on, and remembering Your Name, O Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਚਰਨ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਾਸਹਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਵਉ ॥
charan tum(h)aare hiradhai vaaseh sa(n)tan kaa sa(n)g paavau ||
May Your feet abide within my heart, and may I find the Society of the Saints.
ਸੋਗ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਉ ॥੧॥
sog agan meh man na viaapai aaTh pahar gun gaavau ||1||
May my mind not be afflicted by the fire of sorrow; may I sing Your Glorious Praises, twenty-four hours a day. ||1||
ਸ੍ਵਸਤਿ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਧੵੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਪਣ ॥
savaisat bivasathaa har kee sevaa madhaye(n)t prabh jaapan ||
May I serve the Lord in my childhood and youth, and meditate on God in my middle and old age.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਗਾ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮ ਨ ਛਾਪਣ ॥੨॥੧੮॥੪੯॥
naanak ra(n)g lagaa paramesar baahuR janam na chhaapan ||2||18||49||
O Nanak, one who is imbued with the Love of the Transcendent Lord, is not reincarnated again to die. ||2||18||49||

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਮਾਂਗਉ ਰਾਮ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਥੋਕ ॥
maa(n)gau raam te sabh thok ||
I beg only from the Lord for all things.
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕਉ ਜਾਚਤ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਮੋਖ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maanukh kau jaachat sram paieeaai prabh kai simaran mokh ||1|| rahaau ||
I would hesitate to beg from other people. Remembering God in meditation, liberation is obtained. ||1||Pause||
ਘੋਖੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪੁਰਾਨਾਂ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਘੋਖ ॥
ghokhe mun jan si(n)mirat puraanaa(n) bedh pukaareh ghokh ||
I have studied with the silent sages, and carefully read the Simritees, the Puraanas and the Vedas; they all proclaim that,
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਦੋਵੈ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਲੋਕ ॥੧॥
kirapaa si(n)dh sev sach paieeaai dhovai suhele lok ||1||
by serving the Lord, the ocean of mercy, Truth is obtained, and both this world and the next are embellished. ||1||
ਆਨ ਅਚਾਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਫੋਕ ॥
aan achaar biauhaar hai jete bin har simaran fok ||
All other rituals and customs are useless, without remembering the Lord in meditation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭੈ ਕਾਟੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੋਕ ॥੨॥੧੯॥੫੦॥
naanak janam maran bhai kaaTe mil saadhoo binase sok ||2||19||50||
O Nanak, the fear of birth and death has been removed; meeting the Holy Saint, sorrow is dispelled. ||2||19||50||

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ॥
tirasanaa bujhai har kai naam ||
Desire is quenched, through the Lord's Name.
ਮਹਾ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mahaa sa(n)tokh hovai gur bachanee prabh siau laagai pooran dhiaan ||1|| rahaau ||
Great peace and contentment come through the Guru's Word, and one's meditation is perfectly focused upon God. ||1||Pause||
