ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਾੜੀ ਹੈ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥
aape jaanai kare aap jin vaaRee hai laiee ||1||
He Himself knows, and He Himself acts; He laid out the garden of the world. ||1||
ਰਾਇਸਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕਾ ਰਾਇਸਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raisaa piaare kaa raisaa jit sadhaa sukh hoiee || rahaau ||
Savor the story, the story of the Beloved Lord, which brings a lasting peace. ||Pause||
ਜਿਨਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਸਾ ਪਛੋ ਰੇ ਤਾਣੀ ॥
jin ra(n)g ka(n)t na raaviaa saa pachho re taanee ||
She who does not enjoy the Love of her Husband Lord, shall come to regret and repent in the end.
ਹਾਥ ਪਛੋੜੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਧੁਣੈ ਜਬ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ॥੨॥
haath pachhoRai sir dhunai jab rain vihaanee ||2||
She wrings her hands, and bangs her head, when the night of her life has passed away. ||2||
ਪਛੋਤਾਵਾ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਬ ਚੂਕੈਗੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
pachhotaavaa naa milai jab chookaigee saaree ||
Nothing comes from repentance, when the game is already finished.
ਤਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਾਵੀਐ ਜਬ ਆਵੈਗੀ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
taa fir piaaraa raaveeaai jab aavaigee vaaree ||3||
She shall have the opportunity to enjoy her Beloved, only when her turn comes again. ||3||
ਕੰਤੁ ਲੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮੈ ਤੇ ਵਧਵੀ ਏਹ ॥
ka(n)t leeaa sohaaganee mai te vadhavee eh ||
The happy soul-bride attains her Husband Lord - she is so much better than I am.
ਸੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੁਝੈ ਨ ਆਵਨੀ ਕੈ ਜੀ ਦੋਸੁ ਧਰੇਹ ॥੪॥
se gun mujhai na aavanee kai jee dhos dhareh ||4||
I have none of her merits or virtues; whom should I blame? ||4||
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਪੂਛਉਗੀ ਜਾਏ ॥
jinee sakhee sahu raaviaa tin poochhaugee jaae ||
I shall go and ask those sisters who have enjoyed their Husband Lord.
ਪਾਇ ਲਗਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਉ ਲੇਉਗੀ ਪੰਥੁ ਬਤਾਏ ॥੫॥
pai lagau benatee karau leaugee pa(n)th bataae ||5||
I touch their feet, and ask them to show me the Path. ||5||
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਭਉ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
hukam pachhaanai naanakaa bhau cha(n)dhan laavai ||
She who understands the Hukam of His Command, O Nanak, applies the Fear of God as her sandalwood oil;
ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਣ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਰੈ ਤਉ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੬॥
gun kaaman kaaman karai tau piaare kau paavai ||6||
she charms her Beloved with her virtue, and so obtains Him. ||6||
ਜੋ ਦਿਲਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਰੇ ਸੋਈ ॥
jo dhil miliaa su mil rahiaa miliaa kaheeaai re soiee ||
She who meets her Beloved in her heart, remains united with Him; this is truly called union.
ਜੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਲੋਚੀਐ ਬਾਤੀ ਮੇਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥
je bahuteraa locheeaai baatee mel na hoiee ||7||
As much as she may long for Him, she shall not meet Him through mere words. ||7||
ਧਾਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਧਾਤੁ ਕਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਿਵੈ ਕਉ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
dhaat milai fun dhaat kau liv livai kau dhaavai ||
As metal melts into metal again, so does love melt into love.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਤਉ ਅਨਭਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੮॥
gur parasaadhee jaaneeaai tau anabhau paavai ||8||
By Guru's Grace, this understanding is obtained, and then, one obtains the Fearless Lord. ||8||
ਪਾਨਾ ਵਾੜੀ ਹੋਇ ਘਰਿ ਖਰੁ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
paanaa vaaRee hoi ghar khar saar na jaanai ||
There may be an orchard of betel nut trees in the garden, but the donkey does not appreciate its value.
ਰਸੀਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਮੁਸਕ ਕਾ ਤਬ ਫੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੯॥
raseeaa hovai musak kaa tab fool pachhaanai ||9||
If someone savors a fragrance, then he can truly appreciate its flower. ||9||
ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਵੈ ਜੋ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
apiau peevai jo naanakaa bhram bhram samaavai ||
One who drinks in the ambrosia, O Nanak, abandons his doubts and wanderings.
ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧੦॥੧॥
sahaje sahaje mil rahai amaraa padh paavai ||10||1||
Easily and intuitively, he remains blended with the Lord, and obtains the immortal status. ||10||1||

Tilang, Fourth Mehla:
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਕਥਾ ਕਹਾਣੀਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੀਤਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਆ ॥
har keeaa kathaa kahaaneeaa gur meet sunaieeaa ||
The Guru, my friend, has told me the stories and the sermon of the Lord.
ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਆ ॥੧॥
balihaaree gur aapane gur kau bal jaieeaa ||1||
I am a sacrifice to my Guru; to the Guru, I am a sacrifice. ||1||
ਆਇ ਮਿਲੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੁ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aai mil gursikh aai mil too mere guroo ke piaare || rahaau ||
Come, join with me, O Sikh of the Guru, come and join with me. You are my Guru's Beloved. ||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵਦੇ ਸੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥
har ke gun har bhaavadhe se guroo te paae ||
The Glorious Praises of the Lord are pleasing to the Lord; I have obtained them from the Guru.
ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਘੁਮਿ ਘੁਮਿ ਜਾਏ ॥੨॥
jin gur kaa bhaanaa ma(n)niaa tin ghum ghum jaae ||2||
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to those who surrender to, and obey the Guru's Will. ||2||
ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ॥
jin satigur piaaraa dhekhiaa tin kau hau vaaree ||
I am dedicated and devoted to those who gaze upon the Beloved True Guru.
ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
jin gur kee keetee chaakaree tin sadh balihaaree ||3||
I am forever a sacrifice to those who perform service for the Guru. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
har har teraa naam hai dhukh meTanahaaraa ||
Your Name, O Lord, Har, Har, is the Destroyer of sorrow.
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
gur sevaa te paieeaai gurmukh nisataaraa ||4||
Serving the Guru, it is obtained, and as Gurmukh, one is emancipated. ||4||
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥
jo har naam dhiaaidhe te jan paravaanaa ||
Those humble beings who meditate on the Lord's Name, are celebrated and acclaimed.
ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੫॥
tin viTahu naanak vaariaa sadhaa sadhaa kurabaanaa ||5||
Nanak is a sacrifice to them, forever and ever a devoted sacrifice. ||5||
ਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
saa har teree usatat hai jo har prabh bhaavai ||
O Lord, that alone is Praise to You, which is pleasing to Your Will, O Lord God.
ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਤਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੬॥
jo gurmukh piaaraa sevadhe tin har fal paavai ||6||
Those Gurmukhs, who serve their Beloved Lord, obtain Him as their reward. ||6||
ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
jinaa har setee pirahaRee tinaa jeea prabh naale ||
Those who cherish love for the Lord, their souls are always with God.
ਓਇ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਜੀਵਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥੭॥
oi jap jap piaaraa jeevadhe har naam samaale ||7||
Chanting and meditating on their Beloved, they live in, and gather in, the Lord's Name. ||7||
ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਘੁਮਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
jin gurmukh piaaraa seviaa tin kau ghum jaiaa ||
I am a sacrifice to those Gurmukhs who serve their Beloved Lord.
ਓਇ ਆਪਿ ਛੁਟੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਿਉ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਛਡਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
oi aap chhuTe paravaar siau sabh jagat chhaddaiaa ||8||
They themselves are saved, along with their families, and through them, all the world is saved. ||8||
ਗੁਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਧੰਨੋ ॥
gur piaarai har seviaa gur dha(n)n gur dha(n)no ||
My Beloved Guru serves the Lord. Blessed is the Guru, Blessed is the Guru.
ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦਸਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਵਡ ਪੁੰਨੋ ॥੯॥
gur har maarag dhasiaa gur pu(n)n vadd pu(n)no ||9||
The Guru has shown me the Lord's Path; the Guru has done the greatest good deed. ||9||
