ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥
har saalaahee sadhaa sadhaa tan man saup sareer ||
Praise the Lord, forever and ever; dedicate your body and mind to Him.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚਾ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥
gur sabadhee sach paiaa sachaa gahir ga(n)bheer ||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I have found the True, Profound and Unfathomable Lord.
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੀਰੁ ॥
man tan hiradhai rav rahiaa har heeraa heer ||
The Lord, the jewel of jewels, is permeating my mind, body and heart.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਵੈ ਨ ਫੀਰੁ ॥
janam maran kaa dhukh giaa fir pavai na feer ||
The pains of birth and death are gone, and I shall never again be consigned to the cycle of reincarnation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥੧੦॥
naanak naam salaeh too har gunee gaheer ||10||
O Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the ocean of excellence. ||10||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Shalok, First Mehla:
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਲਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਲਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
naanak ih tan jaal jin jaliaai naam visaariaa ||
O Nanak, burn this body; this burnt body has forgotten the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਪਉਦੀ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਾਲਿ ਪਿਛੈ ਹਥੁ ਨ ਅੰਬੜੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਨਿਵੰਧੈ ਤਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
paudhee jai paraal pichhai hath na a(n)baRai tit niva(n)dhai taal ||1||
The dirt is piling up, and in the world hereafter, your hand shall not be able to reach down into this stagnant pond to clean it out. ||1||

First Mehla:
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਫਿਟਿਆ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵਹੀ ॥
naanak man ke ka(n)m fiTiaa ganat na aavahee ||
O Nanak, wicked are the uncountable actions of the mind.
ਕਿਤੀ ਲਹਾ ਸਹੰਮ ਜਾ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਾ ਧਕਾ ਨਹੀ ॥੨॥
kitee lahaa saha(n)m jaa bakhase taa dhakaa nahee ||2||
They bring terrible and painful retributions, but if the Lord forgives me, then I will be spared this punishment. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਚਾ ਅਮਰੁ ਚਲਾਇਓਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ॥
sachaa amar chalaion kar sach furamaan ||
True is the Command He sends forth, and True are the Orders He issues.
ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥
sadhaa nihachal rav rahiaa so purakh sujaan ||
Forever unmoving and unchanging, permeating and pervading everywhere, He is the All-knowing Primal Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
gur parasaadhee seveeaai sach sabadh neesaan ||
By Guru's Grace, serve Him, through the True Insignia of the Shabad.
ਪੂਰਾ ਥਾਟੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਣੁ ॥
pooraa thaaT banaiaa ra(n)g gurmat maan ||
That which He makes is perfect; through the Guru's Teachings, enjoy His Love.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧੧॥
agam agochar alakh hai gurmukh har jaan ||11||
He is inaccessible, unfathomable and unseen; as Gurmukh, know the Lord. ||11||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Shalok, First Mehla:
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਦਰਾ ਮਾਲ ਕਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਧਰਿਆ ਆਣਿ ॥
naanak badharaa maal kaa bheetar dhariaa aan ||
O Nanak, the bags of coins are brought in
ਖੋਟੇ ਖਰੇ ਪਰਖੀਅਨਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਦੀਬਾਣਿ ॥੧॥
khoTe khare parakheean saahib kai dheebaan ||1||
and placed in the Court of our Lord and Master, and there, the genuine and the counterfeit are separated. ||1||

First Mehla:
ਨਾਵਣ ਚਲੇ ਤੀਰਥੀ ਮਨਿ ਖੋਟੈ ਤਨਿ ਚੋਰ ॥
naavan chale teerathee man khoTai tan chor ||
They go and bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, but their minds are still evil, and their bodies are thieves.
ਇਕੁ ਭਾਉ ਲਥੀ ਨਾਤਿਆ ਦੁਇ ਭਾ ਚੜੀਅਸੁ ਹੋਰ ॥
eik bhaau lathee naatiaa dhui bhaa chaReeas hor ||
Some of their filth is washed off by these baths, but they only accumulate twice as much.
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਧੋਤੀ ਤੂਮੜੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਿਸੁ ਨਿਕੋਰ ॥
baahar dhotee toomaRee a(n)dhar vis nikor ||
Like a gourd, they may be washed off on the outside, but on the inside, they are still filled with poison.
ਸਾਧ ਭਲੇ ਅਣਨਾਤਿਆ ਚੋਰ ਸਿ ਚੋਰਾ ਚੋਰ ॥੨॥
saadh bhale ananaatiaa chor s choraa chor ||2||
The holy man is blessed, even without such bathing, while a thief is a thief, no matter how much he bathes. ||2||

Pauree:
ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਇਦਾ ਜਗੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
aape hukam chalaidhaa jag dha(n)dhai laiaa ||
He Himself issues His Commands, and links the people of the world to their tasks.
ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
eik aape hee aap laian gur te sukh paiaa ||
He Himself joins some to Himself, and through the Guru, they find peace.
ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਵਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥
dheh dhis ih man dhaavadhaa gur Thaak rahaiaa ||
The mind runs around in the ten directions; the Guru holds it still.
ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਸਭ ਲੋਚਦੀ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
naavai no sabh lochadhee gurmatee paiaa ||
Everyone longs for the Name, but it is only found through the Guru's Teachings.
ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਐ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥
dhur likhiaa meT na sakeeaai jo har likh paiaa ||12||
Your pre-ordained destiny, written by the Lord in the very beginning, cannot be erased. ||12||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Shalok, First Mehla:
ਦੁਇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਉਦਹ ਹਟਨਾਲੇ ॥
dhui dheeve chaudheh haTanaale ||
The two lamps light the fourteen markets.
ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਤੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥
jete jeea tete vanajaare ||
There are just as many traders as there are living beings.
ਖੁਲੑੇ ਹਟ ਹੋਆ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
khul(h)e haT hoaa vaapaar ||
The shops are open, and trading is going on;
ਜੋ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਸੋ ਚਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
jo pahuchai so chalanahaar ||
whoever comes there, is bound to depart.
ਧਰਮੁ ਦਲਾਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
dharam dhalaal paae neesaan ||
The Righteous Judge of Dharma is the broker, who gives his sign of approval.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
naanak naam laahaa paravaan ||
O Nanak, those who earn the profit of the Naam are accepted and approved.
ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ॥
ghar aae vajee vaadhaiee ||
And when they return home, they are greeted with cheers;
ਸਚ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥
sach naam kee milee vaddiaaiee ||1||
they obtain the glorious greatness of the True Name. ||1||
ਮਃ ੧ ॥

First Mehla:
ਰਾਤੀ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਕਾਲੀਆ ਸੁਪੇਦਾ ਸੇ ਵੰਨ ॥
raatee hovan kaaleeaa supedhaa se va(n)n ||
Even when the night is dark, whatever is white retains its white color.
ਦਿਹੁ ਬਗਾ ਤਪੈ ਘਣਾ ਕਾਲਿਆ ਕਾਲੇ ਵੰਨ ॥
dhih bagaa tapai ghanaa kaaliaa kaale va(n)n ||
And even when the light of day is dazzlingly bright, whatever is black retains its black color.
ਅੰਧੇ ਅਕਲੀ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
a(n)dhe akalee baahare moorakh a(n)dh giaan ||
The blind fools have no wisdom at all; their understanding is blind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
naanak nadharee baahare kabeh na paaveh maan ||2||
O Nanak, without the Lord's Grace, they will never receive honor. ||2||

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਆਪੇ ॥
kaiaa koT rachaiaa har sachai aape ||
The True Lord Himself created the body-fortress.
ਇਕਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥
eik dhoojai bhai khuaaian haumai vich viaape ||
Some are ruined through the love of duality, engrossed in egotism.
ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਸਾ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥
eih maanas janam dhula(n)bh saa manmukh sa(n)taape ||
This human body is so difficult to obtain; the self-willed manmukhs suffer in pain.
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋ ਬੁਝਸੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਥਾਪੇ ॥
jis aap bujhaae so bujhasee jis satigur thaape ||
He alone understands, whom the Lord Himself causes to understand; he is blessed by the True Guru.
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਓਨੁ ਸਭ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪੇ ॥੧੩॥
sabh jag khel rachaion sabh varatai aape ||13||
He created the entire world for His play; He is pervading amongst all. ||13||
