ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
manmukh agiaanee a(n)dhule janam mareh fir aavai jaae ||
The ignorant self-willed manmukhs are blind. They are born, only to die again, and continue coming and going.
ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਧਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਨੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ॥
kaaraj sidh na hovanee a(n)t giaa pachhutaae ||
Their affairs are not resolved, and in the end, they depart, regretting and repenting.
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
jis karam hovai tis satigur milai so har har naam dhiaae ||
One who is blessed with the Lord's Grace, meets the True Guru; he alone meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨਿੑ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥
naam rate jan sadhaa sukh paini(h) jan naanak tin bal jaae ||1||
Imbued with the Naam, the humble servants of the Lord find a lasting peace; servant Nanak is a sacrifice to them. ||1||

Third Mehla:
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਜਗਿ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
aasaa manasaa jag mohanee jin mohiaa sa(n)saar ||
Hope and desire entice the world; they entice the whole universe.
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਚੀਰੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੈ ਜੇਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
sabh ko jam ke cheere vich hai jetaa sabh aakaar ||
Everyone, and all that has been created, is under the domination of Death.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੀ ਜਮੁ ਲਗਦਾ ਸੋ ਉਬਰੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੈ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
hukamee hee jam lagadhaa so ubarai jis bakhasai karataar ||
By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, Death seizes the mortal; he alone is saved, whom the Creator Lord forgives.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਤਰੈ ਜਾ ਛੋਡੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
naanak gur parasaadhee eh man taa(n) tarai jaa chhoddai aha(n)kaar ||
O Nanak, by Guru's Grace, this mortal swims across, if he abandons his ego.
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰੇ ਨਿਰਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
aasaa manasaa maare niraas hoi gur sabadhee veechaar ||2||
Conquer hope and desire, and remain unattached; contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2||

Pauree:
ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਈਐ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਈ ॥
jithai jaieeaai jagat meh tithai har saiee ||
Wherever I go in this world, I see the Lord there.
ਅਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਿਆਈ ॥
agai sabh aape varatadhaa har sachaa niaaiee ||
In the world hereafter as well, the Lord, the True Judge Himself, is pervading and permeating everywhere.
ਕੂੜਿਆਰਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਹ ਫਿਟਕੀਅਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
kooRiaaraa ke muh fiTake'eeh sach bhagat vaddiaaiee ||
The faces of the false are cursed, while the true devotees are blessed with glorious greatness.
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਛਾਈ ॥
sach saahib sachaa niaau hai sir ni(n)dhak chhaiee ||
True is the Lord and Master, and true is His justice. The heads of the slanderers are covered with ashes.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥
jan naanak sach araadhiaa gurmukh sukh paiee ||5||
Servant Nanak worships the True Lord in adoration; as Gurmukh, he finds peace. ||5||

Shalok, Third Mehla:
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
poorai bhaag satigur paieeaai je har prabh bakhas karei ||
By perfect destiny, one finds the True Guru, if the Lord God grants forgiveness.
ਓਪਾਵਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਓਪਾਉ ਹੈ ਨਾਉ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
opaavaa sir opaau hai naau paraapat hoi ||
Of all efforts, the best effort is to attain the Lord's Name.
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
a(n)dhar seetal saa(n)t hai hiradhai sadhaa sukh hoi ||
It brings a cooling, soothing tranquility deep within the heart, and eternal peace.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੈਨੑਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
a(n)mrit khaanaa pain(h)naa naanak nai vaddiaaiee hoi ||1||
Then, one eats and wears the Ambrosial Nectar; O Nanak, through the Name, comes glorious greatness. ||1||

ਏ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣਿ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
e man gur kee sikh sun paieh gunee nidhaan ||
O mind, listening to the Guru's Teachings, you shall obtain the treasure of virtue.
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
sukhadhaataa terai man vasai haumai jai abhimaan ||
The Giver of peace shall dwell in your mind; you shall be rid of egotism and pride.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
naanak nadharee paieeaai a(n)mrit gunee nidhaan ||2||
O Nanak, by His Grace, one is blessed with the Ambrosial Nectar of the treasure of virtue. ||2||

Pauree:
ਜਿਤਨੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਸਾਹ ਰਾਜੇ ਖਾਨ ਉਮਰਾਵ ਸਿਕਦਾਰ ਹਹਿ ਤਿਤਨੇ ਸਭਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਏ ॥
jitane paatisaeh saeh raaje khaan umaraav sikadhaar heh titane sabh har ke ke'ee ||
The kings, emperors, rulers, lords, nobles and chiefs, are all created by the Lord.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਓਇ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਅਰਥੀਏ ॥
jo kichh har karaavai su oi kareh sabh har ke arathe'ee ||
Whatever the Lord causes them to do, they do; they are all beggars, dependent on the Lord.
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਵਲਿ ਹੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਭਿ ਵਰਨ ਚਾਰੇ ਖਾਣੀ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਗੋਲੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਗੈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣ ਕਉ ਦੀਏ ॥
so aaisaa har sabhanaa kaa prabh satigur kai val hai tin sabh varan chaare khaanee sabh sirasaT gole kar satigur agai kaar kamaavan kau dhe'ee ||
Such is God, the Lord of all; He is on the True Guru's side. All castes and social classes, the four sources of creation, and the whole universe are slaves of the True Guru; God makes them work for Him.
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੀ ਐਸੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੀ ਦੁਸਮਨ ਦੂਤ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੀਏ ॥
har seve kee aaisee vaddiaaiee dhekhahu har sa(n)tahu jin vichahu kaiaa nagaree dhusaman dhoot sabh maar kadde'ee ||
See the glorious greatness of serving the Lord, O Saints of the Lord; He has conquered and driven all the enemies and evil-doers out of the body-village.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਰਖਿ ਲੀਏ ॥੬॥
har har kirapaal hoaa bhagat janaa upar har aapanee kirapaa kar har aap rakh le'ee ||6||
The Lord, Har, Har, is Merciful to His humble devotees; granting His Grace, the Lord Himself protects and preserves them. ||6||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥
salok mahalaa teejaa ||
Shalok, Third Mehla:
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
a(n)dhar kapaT sadhaa dhukh hai manmukh dhiaan na laagai ||
Fraud and hypocrisy within bring constant pain; the self-willed manmukh does not practice meditation.
ਦੁਖ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥
dhukh vich kaar kamaavanee dhukh varatai dhukh aagai ||
Suffering in pain, he does his deeds; he is immersed in pain, and he shall suffer in pain hereafter.
ਕਰਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
karamee satigur bheTeeaai taa sach naam liv laagai ||
By his karma, he meets the True Guru, and then, he is lovingly attuned to the True Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥
naanak sahaje sukh hoi a(n)dharahu bhram bhau bhaagai ||1||
O Nanak, he is naturally at peace; doubt and fear run away and leave him. ||1||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh sadhaa har ra(n)g hai har kaa naau man bhaiaa ||
The Gurmukh is in love with the Lord forever. The Name of the Lord is pleasing to his mind.
