ਮਾਲੀ ਗਉੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Mehla:
ਸਭਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਓ ॥
sabh sidh saadhik mun janaa man bhaavanee har dhiaaio ||
All the Siddhas, seekers and silent sages, with their minds full of love, meditate on the Lord.
ਅਪਰੰਪਰੋ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਖਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
apara(n)paro paarabraham suaamee har alakh guroo lakhaio ||1|| rahaau ||
The Supreme Lord God, my Lord and Master, is limitless; the Guru has inspired me to know the unknowable Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਮਧਿਮ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ ਨਹੀ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਓ ॥
ham neech madhim karam ke'ee nahee chetio har raio ||
I am low, and I commit evil actions; I have not remembered my Sovereign Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਆਨਿ ਮੇਲਿਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਖਿਨੁ ਬੰਧ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
har aan melio satiguroo khin ba(n)dh mukat karaio ||1||
The Lord has led me to meet the True Guru; in an instant, He liberated me from bondage. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮਸਤਕੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਲੀਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਓ ॥
prabh masatake dhur leekhiaa gurmatee har liv laio ||
Such is the destiny God wrote on my forehead; following the Guru's Teachings, I enshrine love for the Lord.
ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦ ਦਰਗਹ ਬਾਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਓ ॥੨॥
pa(n)ch sabadh dharageh baajiaa har milio ma(n)gal gaio ||2||
The Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds, vibrate and resound in the Court of the Lord; meeting the Lord, I sing the songs of joy. ||2||
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਇਓ ॥
patit paavan naam narahar ma(n)dhabhaageeaa(n) nahee bhaio ||
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the Purifier of sinners; the unfortunate wretches do not like this.
ਤੇ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨੀ ਗਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਜਿਉ ਲੋਨੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਗਲਾਇਓ ॥੩॥
te garabh jonee gaale'eeh jiau lon jaleh galaio ||3||
They rot away in the womb of reincarnation; they fall apart like salt in water. ||3||
ਮਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਮਨੁ ਮੈ ਲਾਇਓ ॥
mat dheh har prabh agam Thaakur gur charan man mai laio ||
Please bless me with such understanding, O Inaccessible Lord God, my Lord and Master, that my mind may remain attached to the Guru's feet.
ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੈ ਰਹਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਓ ॥੪॥੩॥
har raam naamai rahau laago jan naanak naam samaio ||4||3||
Servant Nanak remains attached to the Name of the Lord; he is merged in the Naam. ||4||3||
ਮਾਲੀ ਗਉੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Mehla:
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਸਿ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
meraa man raam naam ras laagaa ||
My mind is addicted to the juice of the Lord's Name.
ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kamal pragaas bhiaa gur paiaa har japio bhram bhau bhaagaa ||1|| rahaau ||
My heart-lotus has blossomed forth, and I have found the Guru. Meditating on the Lord, my doubts and fears have run away. ||1||Pause||
ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਲਾਗੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੀਅਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਸੋਇਓ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਗਾ ॥
bhai bhai bhagat laago meraa heearaa man soio gurmat jaagaa ||
In the Fear of God, my heart is committed in loving devotion to Him; following the Guru's Teachings, my sleeping mind has awakened.
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਖੀਨ ਭਏ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਵਡਭਾਗਾ ॥੧॥
kilabikh kheen bhe saa(n)t aaiee har ur dhaario vaddabhaagaa ||1||
All my sins have been erased, and I have found peace and tranquility; I have enshrined the Lord within my heart, by great good fortune. ||1||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਕਚੂਆ ਜਿਉ ਕੁਸਮ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਗਾ ॥
manmukh ra(n)g kasu(n)bh hai kachooaa jiau kusam chaar dhin chaagaa ||
The self-willed manmukh is like the false color of the safflower, which fades away; its color lasts for only a few days.
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਤਾਪੈ ਡੰਡੁ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕਾ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੨॥
khin meh binas jai parataapai dda(n)dd dharam rai kaa laagaa ||2||
He perishes in an instant; he is tormented, and punished by the Righteous Judge of Dharma. ||2||
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਅਤਿ ਗੂੜੀ ਜਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠ ਬਹੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
satasa(n)gat preet saadh at gooRee jiau ra(n)g majeeTh bahu laagaa ||
The Lord's Love, found in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, is absolutely permanent, and colorfast.
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਪਰੁ ਚੀਰ ਬਹੁ ਫਾਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਹੈ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥੩॥
kaiaa kaapar cheer bahu faare har ra(n)g na lahai sabhaagaa ||3||
The cloth of the body may be torn to shreds, but still, this beautiful color of the Lord's Love does not fade away. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਚਾਰ੍ਹਿਓ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੈ ਰਾਂਗਾ ॥
har chaariho ra(n)g milai gur sobhaa har ra(n)g chaloolai raa(n)gaa ||
Meeting with the Blessed Guru, one is dyed in the color of the Lord's Love, imbued with this deep crimson color.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਰੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਜਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੪॥
jan naanak tin ke charan pakhaarai jo har charanee jan laagaa ||4||4||
Servant Nanak washes the feet of that humble being, who is attached to the feet of the Lord. ||4||4||
ਮਾਲੀ ਗਉੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Mehla:
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥
mere man bhaj har har naam gupaalaa ||
O my mind, meditate, vibrate upon the Name of the Lord, the Lord of the World, Har, Har.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਲੀਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੈ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
meraa man tan leen bhiaa raam naamai mat gurmat raam rasaalaa ||1|| rahaau ||
My mind and body are merged in the Lord's Name, and through the Guru's Teachings, my intellect is imbued with the Lord, the source of nectar. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਮਾਲਾ ॥
gurmat naam dhiaaieeaai har har man japeeaai har japamaalaa ||
Follow the Guru's Teachings, and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. Chant, and meditate, on the beads of the mala of the Lord.
ਜਿਨੑ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੀਖਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਬਨਮਾਲਾ ॥੧॥
jin(h) kai masatak leekhiaa har miliaa har banamaalaa ||1||
Those who have such destiny inscribed upon their foreheads, meet with the Lord, adorned with garlands of flowers. ||1||
ਜਿਨੑ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨੑ ਚੂਕੇ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥
jin(h) har naam dhiaaiaa tin(h) chooke sarab ja(n)jaalaa ||
Those who meditate on the Name of the Lord - all their entanglements are ended.
ਤਿਨੑ ਜਮੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥੨॥
tin(h) jam neR na aaviee gur raakhe har rakhavaalaa ||2||
The Messenger of Death does not even approach them; the Guru, the Savior Lord, saves them. ||2||
ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੂ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥
ham baarik kichhoo na jaanahoo har maat pitaa pratipaalaa ||
I am a child; I know nothing at all. The Lord cherishes me, as my mother and father.
ਕਰੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਤ ਮੇਲਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੩॥
kar maiaa agan nit melate gur raakhe dheen dhiaalaa ||3||
I continually put my hands into the fire of Maya, but the Guru saves me; He is merciful to the meek. ||3||
ਬਹੁ ਮੈਲੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਭ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਹਰਿ ਜਸਿ ਜਾਲਾ ॥
bahu maile niramal hoiaa sabh kilabikh har jas jaalaa ||
I was filthy, but I have become immaculate. Singing the Lord's Praises, all sins have been burnt to ashes.
ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੫॥
man anadh bhiaa gur paiaa jan naanak sabadh nihaalaa ||4||5||
My mind is in esctasy, having found the Guru; servant Nanak is enraptured through the Word of the Shabad. ||4||5||
