Life
Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469 at Rai Bhoi di Talwandi, today Nankana Sahib in present-day Pakistan. Sikh tradition remembers his parents as Mehta Kalu and Mata Tripta, and his elder sister Bebe Nanaki.
He taught Naam Japna, Kirat Karni, and Vand Chakna — remember the Divine, earn honestly, and share. Those three remain the everyday frame of Sikh life.
His journeys (the four Udasis) carried that teaching across South Asia and beyond. He settled at Kartarpur, where a sangat lived by those practices. Guruship then passed to Guru Angad Dev Ji.
