ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੩॥
vaddabhaagee gur paiaa bhaiee har har naam dhiaai ||3||
By great good fortune, I found the Guru, O Siblings of Destiny, and I meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||
ਸਚੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਭਾਈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੋਇ ॥
sach sadhaa hai niramalaa bhaiee niramal saache soi ||
The Truth is forever pure, O Siblings of Destiny; those who are true are pure.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
nadhar kare jis aapanee bhaiee tis paraapat hoi ||
When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, O Siblings of Destiny, then one obtains Him.
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਕੋਇ ॥
koT madhe jan paieeaai bhaiee viralaa koiee koi ||
Among millions, O Siblings of Destiny, hardly one humble servant of the Lord is found.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak rataa sach naam bhaiee sun man tan niramal hoi ||4||2||
Nanak is imbued with the True Name, O Siblings of Destiny; hearing it, the mind and body become immaculately pure. ||4||2||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਦੁਤੁਕੇ ॥
soraTh mahalaa panjavaa dhutuke ||
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehla, Dho-Thukay:
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਭਾਉ ਅਭਾਉ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਦੂਰਾਈ ॥
jau lau bhaau abhaau ih maanai tau lau milan dhooraiee ||
As long as this person believes in love and hate, it is difficult for him to meet the Lord.
ਆਨ ਆਪਨਾ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਬੀਚੁ ਬਿਖਾਈ ॥੧॥
aan aapanaa karat beechaaraa tau lau beech bikhaiee ||1||
As long as he discriminates between himself and others, he will distance himself from the Lord. ||1||
ਮਾਧਵੇ ਐਸੀ ਦੇਹੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
maadhave aaisee dheh bujhaiee ||
O Lord, grant me such understanding,
ਸੇਵਉ ਸਾਧ ਗਹਉ ਓਟ ਚਰਨਾ ਨਹ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਚਸਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sevau saadh gahau oT charanaa neh bisarai muhat chasaiee || rahaau ||
that I might serve the Holy Saints, and seek the protection of their feet, and not forget them, for a moment, even an instant. ||Pause||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਚੇਤ ਚੰਚਲ ਚਿਤ ਤੁਮ ਐਸੀ ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਆਈ ॥
re man mugadh achet cha(n)chal chit tum aaisee ridhai na aaiee ||
O foolish, thoughtless and fickle mind, such understanding did not come into your heart.
ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਆਨ ਤੂ ਰਚਿਆ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥੨॥
praanapat tiaag aan too rachiaa urajhio sa(n)g bairaiee ||2||
Renouncing the Lord of Life, you have become engrossed in other things, and you are involved with your enemies. ||2||
ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਥਾਪੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
sog na biaapai aap na thaapai saadhasa(n)gat budh paiee ||
Sorrow does not afflict one who does not harbor self-conceit; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have attained this understanding.
ਸਾਕਤ ਕਾ ਬਕਨਾ ਇਉ ਜਾਨਉ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਵਨੁ ਝੁਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
saakat kaa bakanaa iau jaanau jaise pavan jhulaiee ||3||
Know that the babbling of the faithless cynic is like wind passing by. ||3||
ਕੋਟਿ ਪਰਾਧ ਅਛਾਦਿਓ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
koT paraadh achhaadhio ih man kahanaa kachhoo na jaiee ||
This mind is inundated by millions of sins - what can I say?
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਭੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਠਾਈ ॥੪॥੩॥
jan naanak dheen saran aaio prabh sabh lekhaa rakhahu uThaiee ||4||3||
Nanak, Your humble servant has come to Your Sanctuary, God; please, erase all his accounts. ||4||3||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehla:
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਲੋਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਨਬੰਧੇਹੀ ॥
putr kalatr lok gireh banitaa maiaa sanaba(n)dhehee ||
Children, spouses, men and women in one's household, are all bound by Maya.
ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਕੋ ਖਰਾ ਨ ਹੋਸੀ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਅਸਨੇਹੀ ॥੧॥
a(n)t kee baar ko kharaa na hosee sabh mithiaa asanehee ||1||
At the very last moment, none of them shall stand by you; their love is totally false. ||1||
ਰੇ ਨਰ ਕਾਹੇ ਪਪੋਰਹੁ ਦੇਹੀ ॥
re nar kaahe paporahu dhehee ||
O man, why do you pamper your body so?
ਊਡਿ ਜਾਇਗੋ ਧੂਮੁ ਬਾਦਰੋ ਇਕੁ ਭਾਜਹੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਨੇਹੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
uoodd jaigo dhoom baadharo ik bhaajahu raam sanehee || rahaau ||
It shall disperse like a cloud of smoke; vibrate upon the One, the Beloved Lord. ||Pause||
ਤੀਨਿ ਸੰਙਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਜਲ ਕੂਕਰ ਭਸਮੇਹੀ ॥
teen sa(n)n(g)iaa kar dhehee keenee jal kookar bhasamehee ||
There are three ways in which the body can be consumed - it can be thrown into water, given to the dogs, or cremated to ashes.
ਹੋਇ ਆਮਰੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਬੈਠਾ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਬਿਸਰੋਹੀ ॥੨॥
hoi aamaro gireh meh baiThaa karan kaaran bisarohee ||2||
He considers himself to be immortal; he sits in his home, and forgets the Lord, the Cause of causes. ||2||
ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਣੀਏ ਸਾਜੇ ਕਾਚੈ ਤਾਗਿ ਪਰੋਹੀ ॥
anik bhaat kar mane'ee saaje kaachai taag parohee ||
In various ways, the Lord has fashioned the beads, and strung them on a slender thread.
ਤੂਟਿ ਜਾਇਗੋ ਸੂਤੁ ਬਾਪੁਰੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤੋਹੀ ॥੩॥
tooT jaigo soot baapure fir paachhai pachhutohee ||3||
The thread shall break, O wretched man, and then, you shall repent and regret. ||3||
ਜਿਨਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਿਰਜੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨੇਹੀ ॥
jin tum siraje siraj savaare tis dhiaavahu dhin rainehee ||
He created you, and after creating you, He adorned you - meditate on Him day and night.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਓਟ ਗਹੇਹੀ ॥੪॥੪॥
jan naanak prabh kirapaa dhaaree mai satigur oT gahehee ||4||4||
God has showered His Mercy upon servant Nanak; I hold tight to the Support of the True Guru. ||4||4||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
soraTh mahalaa panjavaa ||
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehla:
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਨਹਿ ਭਇਆ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
gur pooraa bheTio vaddabhaagee maneh bhiaa paragaasaa ||
I met the perfect Guru, by great good fortune, and my mind has been enlightened.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਹੁਚਨਹਾਰਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਾ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ॥੧॥
koi na pahuchanahaaraa dhoojaa apune saahib kaa bharavaasaa ||1||
No one else can equal me, because I have the loving support of my Lord and Master. ||1||
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ॥
apune satigur kai balihaarai ||
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru.
ਆਗੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aagai sukh paachhai sukh sahajaa ghar aana(n)dh hamaarai || rahaau ||
I am at peace in this world, and I shall be in celestial peace in the next; my home is filled with bliss. ||Pause||
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ਸੋਈ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
a(n)tarajaamee karanaihaaraa soiee khasam hamaaraa ||
He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, the Creator, my Lord and Master.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਇਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
nirabhau bhe gur charanee laage ik raam naam aadhaaraa ||2||
Attached to the Guru's feet, I have become fearless. I take the Support of the Name of the One Lord. ||2||
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
safal dharasan akaal moorat prabh hai bhee hovanahaaraa ||
Fruitful is the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; the Form of God is deathless; He is and shall always be.
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਇ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਨ ਰਾਖੇ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੩॥
ka(n)Th lagai apune jan raakhe apunee preet piaaraa ||3||
He holds His humble servants close, and protects and preserves them; their love for Him is sweet to Him. ||3||
ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਅਚਰਜ ਸੋਭਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਇਆ ਰਾਸੇ ॥
vaddee vaddiaaiee acharaj sobhaa kaaraj aaiaa raase ||
Great is His glorious greatness, and wondrous is His magnificence; through Him, all affairs are resolved.
